This lovely apartment has been newly renovated and is in an artists home, with its own private entrance and secluded pergola. It is quiet easy to reach with your car or by bus from nearby Locarno / Tenero. The living / sleeping is spacious and a cosy set up. King size bed, a lounge and antique wardrobe, real artwork on the walls and rugs for ambience and comfort. A well equipped kitchen, with all you need to cook a meal, including dishwasher, ceramic top stove and a Nespresso cafe machine. Serve your meals straight trough the kitchen window, out into the cool shade of the grape vine covered patio that is yours to enjoy. Two deck chairs invite you to a lazy siesta, or simply enjoy a bottle of Ticino Wine by candlelight. Find TV, radio, CD's and books, WLAN is also available. The private laundry can be used or have your washing done by us. We look forward to meeting you on our deck for a welcome drink and are happy to assist with all information you need. Meet you soon in Ticino!
A bit about us. Les was senior Lecturer of Arts in Brisbane, Australia and lived there for 34 years. Originally English - like most Aussies :-) He developed a passion for mountains and climbing them in his youth and missed that part for all the years DownUnder.
I am Swiss and lived over there for 17 years. One day, Les thought he would like to go and live in Switzerland...so we did. Withing 4.5 months of this thought, the house was sold, our goods shipped and we, along with our cats, were on the way back to my Homeland. So why Ticino and not Zürich? ( where I come from ) It was a clear choice since here, we have the glorious climate, the lakes and the mountains all within walking distance. What a change to Australia! We love it and are happy as, to be here.
Every year we look forward to meet new guest and are just so happy to re-welcome those who return. To a new year ahead!
Regula Melton purchased this apartment in 2008
The house had great potential for us. As Les is retired and I still work as a Nurse. We needed something that is easy to reach by public transport. For us it had to have charm, a view and privacy. It was so lucky for us, to find such a place within no time. A few changes needed to be made ( one is still in the planing ) but we got just what we were looking for. Gratefull and happy to be here, the property also aloud us to accomodate a seperate appartement for hollidaymakers. Something we enjoy and it enriches our lifes greatly and is keeping us in touch with the big wide world. No better way to be.
The first thing we loved about this place was the position and the view. Les loved the Rock at the entrance and I just loved the special feeling I had when walking in to this sunfilled House. Rooms are not just square and facing south, beautifull arched windows that invite the outside in and a cool shaded patio with grapevines. An other important point was the garden that could be made secure for our cats to enjoy in safety. The potential to make this house OUR house was great and the fact that we have direct acces and off street parking at the house was an other wining point. Something not everybody has in Ticino!
We stayed at this apartment during our 10 day honeymoon back in September 2013, and we loved it! Regula welcomed us with some local sparkly wine and fresh grapes from their backyard. Regula and her husband also provided input on restaurants in the area, recommended different places for sight-seeing, gave us an evening of wine and good conversation, offered fondue for dinner (thank you, Regula!), and made our Swiss stay amazing. Regula even gave a good amount of info before we traveled to Switzerland when I asked her for sight-seeing options. Perfect for a romantic getaway. Furnishings and general atmosphere are relaxing. A nice and quiet neighborhood. Definitely recommended. We'd love to go back one day!

The property was in excellent conditions, spotless and tastefully decorated, with everything needed for a vacation. The listing description was very accurate.
On the first day we were welcomed with wine and snacks, by the owner at her house, which we found exceptionally pleasant. The owner was extremely helpful, giving us very useful information on where to go and what to visit; and going out of her way to answer any need, health related or otherwise. We can comfortably say that we were treated as life friends.
We would not doubt in going back to the same place in the future, and highly recommend it to visitors going to that region.
We returned to this apartment a year (almost exactly to the day!) after our first visit. We loved our first visit and returning was like a homecoming. This may sound slightly exaggerated, but we felt instantly relaxed upon arrival. That may have been assisted by the bottle of chilled Prosecco waiting for us in the refrigerator, along with the beautiful bunch of roses in the kitchen and the handwritten welcome note.
We had a lovely time re-visiting places we went to last time and adding some new ones. You need to read an earlier review to see these. One of the things we did learn this time, is that it is possible (easy, actually) to walk into Locarno. Go down the steps from the village - lots of windy steps - into Muralto and then walk along the promenade into Locarno. So many pretty places along the way.
The apartment had little tweaks and changes - all for the better. The internet link is not as strong as it could be, nor reliable - and that is an issue for us, but it might not be for you. Regula and Les are wonderful people and perfect hosts. They are both sociable, yet inobtrusive.
The accommodation did not disappoint. Nothing did. We had a wonderful break and will return. Thank you Regula and Les for continuing to do what you do with consistency and with warmth and courtesy.

My daughter and I had a lovely time in Switzerland and felt we were in paradise on earth. The recommendation for dinner, (we went two nights in a row) El Capon, was perfect for us, and ended one evening with live music including yodeling! What a fun place! Every view was exquisite, our hosts were so tremendously accomodating. Our home away from home--just beautiful! We just cannot recommend this vacation highly enough. Thank you so very much, Regula!

We have just come back from Casa Al Fanghi and are already ready to go back. The apartment is beautifully decorated with paintings and artwork from the owner, with three walls of windows for waking up to sunrises and sun beams streaming in. The apartment is fully equipped (even a dishwasher!) and the photos on the ad are absolutely authentic.
There are two things that stood out for us as "the best": 1. The pergola for eating out while eating in where you are surrounded by beautiful flowers from the gardens - and yet secluded from the road and others; 2. The owners - Regula and Les are fantastic hosts, giving you enough privacy, information and warmth ... we felt as if we were visiting friends we had known for a long time even though it was the first time we met them. There was even a basket of Easter chocolates waiting for us in the kitchen! Their recommendation for Al Grott was spot on - as well as other activities to do in the area.
The location of the apartment is also a plus ... we did not realise it was as high up in the mountains as it is - which was a very pleasant surprise. Driving up and taking short walks on the winding roads was just as enjoyable as visiting the surrounding area or having a glass of Ticino Merlot in the pergola. Regula kindly provided us with about 3 alternate routes so that we could avoid Easter traffic - very appreciated! She even managed to push away rain clouds for the majority of the weekend ... no small feat :)
All in all, we had a fantastic Easter get-away chez Regula and Les and would recommend the apartment without hesitation. Our only regret is not having more time to visit the fantastic region!
I stayed there in November. It was absolutely lovely. The view of the lake below is spectacular. The hosts, Regula and Les were very accommodating. A small car, while not absolutely necessary, will make the stay more enjoyable. There are many very enjoyable nearby attractions.
Casa “Ai Fanghi' is situated 340m above the top end of stunning Lago Maggiore. 'The sun room' of Switzerland is known for its mild climate, influenced by the Mediterranean currents from nearby Italy. Lakes, mountains, valleys and chestnut forests offer endless opportunities for outdoor activities.
Cultural highlights & festivals such as the International Filmfestival in Locarno, jazz and blues festivals under the stars, sports competitions, a Falconery and Wellnes centres. On top of that a never ending list of lovely restaurants, Grottos and cafe shops. Wherever you go is a piece of history to be discovered! Find Castles and Monasteries, the typical Ticino stone villages where time stands still, nestled into some of the most picturesque valleys in all their rugged beauty. Eg; Valle Verzzasca, Centovalli, Valle Maggia and Valle Bavona, all with wild rivers and waterfalls, Mountain cliffs for the adventurous or Cablecars for the more sedate approach. Even James Bond was here, so...
