Beautifully furnished 3 bedroom apartment. Sleeps 6. 5 min walk to Plaza Nueva.

A 3 bedroom executive apartment set on the first floor of beautifully restored 16th century carmen. The apartment is in a sought after and peaceful location in the oldest and most attractive district of Granada known as the Albaycin. It is in the very lowest part of the Albaycin and so is extremely convenient for the town centre. It is only 5 minutes walk to Plaza Nueva and just a few footsteps to charming local shops, tapas bars and restaurants. You can walk to the Alhambra palace in just 10 minutes. Buses and taxis also regularly leave Plaza Nueva for the nearby Alhambra Palace. The apartment itself has been lovingly restored in 2007 using traditional materials and styles popular in local architecture. Features include traditional slate and clay tiles, exposed wooded beams, stylish Nazari pine doors and shutters, and tasteful Moorish style furnishings throughout. Despite its traditional feel the apartment still boasts the best in modern amenities including air-conditioning and heating, flat screen digital TV, DVD, free wifi, fully equipped kitchen. (dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge freezer, oven, kettle, crockery and utensils).

The apartment: The apartment is decorated and furnished to a very high standard throughout. The style is traditional in keeping with the architectural features of the building and Moorish influences. It is also very comfortable and has all the modern amenities. The whole property is very light and airy with high ceilings and exposed wooden beams in the bedrooms and bathroom. There are traditional wooden shutters throughout which block out the light completely for a very sound nights sleep or can be flung open on a sunny day. Thick walls and tiles serve to keep the apartment cool on a hot day but there is also reverse cycle air-conditioning for your comfort (which can heat as well as cool the apartment). There is an attractive shared internal courtyard in this restored 16th century carmen. Two of the three bedrooms have private balconies which face onto a quiet street, have stunning fiews of the Alhambra opposite, and are not overlooked. The third bedroom has double doors opening to give views of the central courtyard and sky above.

Travel in Granada: The best way to travel around Granada is on foot or by bus and taxi. The nearest taxi rank is in Plaza Nueva, 5 minutes walk from the apartment. Buses also leave from nearby Cathedral for the city, central bus station and airport. The nearest airport is Granada Jaen which is 30 minutes by taxi or 45 minutes by bus. A taxi to Plaza Nueva should cost 25 Euros. The reliable airport bus will take you from Granada airport to the Cathedral for 3 Euros. Malaga airport is 90 minutes by taxi. Driving is less convenient and there is little parking in the city centre except in multi-storey subterranean pay and display carparks. The Albaycin itself is largely inaccessible by car due to its narrow cobbled streets - it is a unesco world heritage site and tourist attraction built long before the car was invented! The nearest car parks (parking san jeronimo and parking severo ochoa) are just 5 minutes on foot and cost from 10 euros per day/ 42 euros per week. It is well worth the 5 minute walk from the car parks because it is the most central part of the old town and the only area from which you can reach all the attractions and amenities on foot. We can provide more details on these nearby car parks if you do decide to bring your car to granada. We will also provide a detailed map and directions to guide you from the Cathedral bus stop or Plaza Nueva to the apartment (5 minutes walk).

Local amenities and activities: The owners can recommend some lovely places to eat and drink or you can enjoy exploring on your own. Either way we are sure you will find some wonderful tapas and dining experiences in Granada. Granada is one of the few regions of Spain where free tapas is still served with your drinks. Seafood is a local speciality but a wide range of delicacies is available. The nearest supermarket to buy food is El Corte Ingles, about 10 minutes walk. There is also a wealth of stylish clothes and shoes stores in the city centre. There is a nearby ski resort with the stunning Sierra Nevada just 45 minute drive away, accessible by bus or taxi. You can ski on up to eight different pistes while enjoying views of the Mediterranean sea. On a clear day it is possible to see as far as the coast of North Africa. There are also 2 18 hole golf courses within 30 minutes drive (city of Granada and Santa Clara golf clubs). Other activities include walking, cycling and horse riding in the mountains.

We fell in love with our apartment when we first saw it! We loved its traditional charm and moorish features. The area is so peaceful and yet there are so many lovely taps bars, cares and restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. Plus beautiful views. Our children have been visiting Granada since they were born so it is very special to us. It is a very family friendly place and also very authentic. We have furnished the apartment to our own high standards so that both ourselves and our guests can enjoy it as a home from home. We think that it is very comfortable and well equipped as well as beautifully decorated. We hope that everyone enjoys it as much as we have.

Just 5 minutes walk to town and 10 minutes walk to Alhambra palace. Lots of local amenities. Great air conditioning and fully fitted kitchen. 3 comfortable bedrooms with authentic antique furnishings. Fantastic area buzzing with life - cafes, tapas bars, flamenco, arts, souvenirs and a convenience store within a few hundred metres. Despite this it is a very peaceful apartment as it is set back in a small side street. Balconies aren't overlooked and have views of the Alhambra palace. There is also a cool inner courtyard.

BEAUTIFUL TRADITIONAL APARTMENT

This was a return visit for me to Granada and second time staying at this apartment which is now enhanced with views of the Alhambra thanks to the demolition of a building in front of the apartment. Its a light, spacious place, withhelpful owners. What I love most about it is the location in the heart of the UNESCO world heritage listed old town, but still within a short walking distance to the main shops / restaurant / tapas areas.
You need to navigate uneven, cobbled streets to get there so not recommended for wheelchairs / buggies really.
I went with my husband. Would also be great with a small group of friends.
No complaints, would recommend it. Love the character of the building and unusual entrance hall.

LOVELY APARTMENT BUT COLD IN WINTER

Really lovely apartment and in a great location in the Albayzin with all the lovely cobblestone streets and coffee shops. Walkable from here to the Alhambra as well. Apartment is lovely and decorated well in a Spanish style in a nice secure complex. Beds are comfortable. It would make a great Spring or Summer apartment but winter (under 12 degrees) it is too cold. There are 2 heaters - reverse cycle - but as the apartment is not carpeted they do not keep the place warm. Also with so many appliances running at once (which is necessary as it's so cold) once you turn the oven on the power goes out. It really needs rugs or carpet and something to stop the draughts under the balcony doors. The hot water in the shower also doesn't last too long. Also may be a winter thing. A toaster would also be great.

Owner's Response: We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the apartment and its central Albayzin location. We do appreciate your comments - Granada can be cool for a couple months of the year. However we have gone to a lot of effort to ensure that our apartment is well equipped for winter. We have double glazing, draft proofing, wall heaters in each room and 2 powerful reverse cycle air conditioning / heating units - none of which are standard in Spain. These panasonic units are very well powered for the size of the apartment but there are several power settings and in the winter you need to make sure it set it to powerful fan mode to get full heating. With these units and the other heaters it shouldn't be cold but the traditional slate floor tiles will always be cool. This is desirable in Spain because of the hot summers and is part of the traditional charm of our Spanish apartment. It would be very unusual to see carpet in a Spanish home and we wouldn't want to cover up our lovely tiles. Since it is a UNESCO heritage site, there is no gas supply to our street so hot water is electrically powered and stored in a small tank. The water takes 10 minutes or so to reheat between showers but will heat up automatically and then stay hot throughout the day.

Unfortunately, I cannot attest to the virtues of the apartment itself, as the owner was unexpectedly forced to cancel our reservation due to circumstances beyone her control. However, I can tell you that under these circumstances the owner went to great lengths to ensure that my family had a comparable apartment that we could afford during our stay in Granada. We are very grateful for her efforts and would certainly book with her again were we to return.

This 3 bedroom apartment with free wifi is set in the Historic Moorish area called the Albaicin. It is the oldest district of Granada and a UNESCO world heritage site and is made up of wonderful old buildings and narrow cobbled streets. It is set on a gentle hillside but our apartment is in the lowest part and so is much more convenient for the city centre and Alhambra than those higher up. It is just 5 minutes walk down a gentle slope to Plaza Nueva. The Alhambra Palace is set on the hillside opposite the Albaycin and is stunning, especially when lit up at night. There is a park near the apartment where you can sit and take in the views, or perhaps paint or take photographs of the Palace. The apartment is in a very peaceful side street which does not get much foot traffic and is too narrow to be bothered by passing cars. Despite this it is jut a couple of minutes by foot to the many local bars, cafes, Arabic bazaars and even venues hosting flamenco, jazz and local art.
