Both of the property owners grew up and vacationed around water their whole life, including Lake of the Woods, Karth Lake and Lake Superior. This is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of busy city lives.

Bob Tyler purchased this cabin in 2005

The Lutsen area is uniquely known as an artist's retreat and nature lover's wilderness. There is a wonderful array of people living, working and vacationing in the area and you can immerse yourself in many options from this vantage point. If you are a loner and a star gazer there is no better place to see the milky way or the northern lights than laying flat on the dock or the frozen lake in the dead of the night. If you are a Superior National Forest hiker that wants a 'foodie' experience, the trail is within a few miles of the cabin and there are excellent places to eat all along highway 61 leading up to Grand Marais and beyond.

I've said it before, but the ability to totally control your environment is what drew us to this place. Total privacy if you want it, with room for friends and family if that's the weekend's goal.

GREAT WINTER SOLITUDE!

  • 5 out of 5
The property is beautifully furnished with a very distinctive design. It was the perfect space for our family of 4. The location provides solitude while being close to Lutsen. The owner was very helpful regarding mechanical concerns that were remedied in a timely fashion. It was great place for a "spring break" vacation.

A GEM!

  • 5 out of 5
We’ve stayed at this property twice now, and look forward to going again. The location is the right mix of seclusion while being within reach of local attractions, food and entertainment. While the photos are accurate, they do not do this cabin justice. It’s a very well kept, high-feature property that is a great value. Visiting during the winter, we appreciate the in-floor heat throughout the cabin, the unique fireplace with ample pre-cut wood, the Japanese soaking tub, and spacious kitchen with high-end appliances.

Ownership is very communicative and excellent to work with!

UNPLUGGED AND RELAXING

  • 5 out of 5
We pulled up to the property and were delightfully pleased with the look and feel of the cabin. The pictures are right on. My wife and son (13) along with my sister and brother-in- law were ready for a week of peace and quiet along with slowing down the clock which is exactly what we were able to do. The cabin had plenty of room for all of us along with areas inside and out if someone wanted some alone time. We found ourselves enjoying the screen porch the most. Morning coffee, afternoon snacks and evening wine all enjoyed in the screened-in porch. Of course lots of time in the kitchen making wonderful meals only then to be eaten in the dining room along side a beautiful fireplace. There is nothing better than stuffing yourself with gourmet food and then laying next to a big fire to digest and relax.
The bedrooms were great. Master bedroom was very nice and big. The second bedroom was large but the only downside was the double bunk bed was a little squeaky! No big deal!! The master bathroom with its unique whirlpool was very cool. The cabin kitchen was a treat to be able to have plenty of room and nice appliances to work with.
The property was very nice and private and we did not see anyone while we were there. The blueberries were ripe at the time of our stay and I had no problem picking and eating them. I must say that the lake is not really a great lake for swimming, however it is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. The lake has some good size pan fish swimming around and there are some walleye in there but we did not find them. We all enjoyed hearing the small stream entering the lake as well which was a very peaceful and soothing.
I would totally recommend this cabin to rent. It was very clean and very well maintained. I think it would be more suited for families with older children. It is a perfect getaway for couples and small intimate groups. We all agreed that we would stay here again. I want to thank the owners for sharing this wonderful cabin along with all of its great decorating and books. The owners have a great place to relax and slow down. If you stay here make sure you check out the maple syrup business that is close by. Thanks again for a great time at a great place.

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your time up in the woods! Privacy, quiet and nature were three things at the top of our list when we built the cabin. Having those things in comfort are a winning combination. Thank you for submitting a review.

TRANQUIL RETREAT

  • 5 out of 5
The cabin is about seven miles off of Highway 61, but close enough to Lutsen if anything is needed. The cabin in nicely appointed, clean and comfortable. The high end appliances, soaking tub and lodge-like living room were wonderful amenities that set this cabin apart from others. The mosquitos kept us inside, but the screen porch gave us the best of both worlds. I recommend this cabin and plan on visiting it again!

Our family of four really enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable and well appointed cabin. Great screened porch, spacious living area and good sized bedrooms. Would definitely come again.

Owner's Response: Julie, thank you for the kind words. The cabin is very special place of retreat and repose and a little extra space and luxury in the middle of the woods helps with that! So glad that you all had a good time.

GIRLS WEEKEND - AGES 2 TO 60 (AHEM) SOMETHING

  • 5 out of 5
We enjoyed a week in this gorgeous spot with myself, my sister, our 3 little girls and my mother in law. The weather didn't cooperate for the first few days, but the cabin was so comfortable we didn't go stir crazy at all - thank heavens for heated floors and dominos next to the fire! Once the sun emerged and we could go exploring, the little girls found their calling in throwing stones in Lake Christine and we even ventured down the road to the boat access and threw some bobbers out in the hopes of landing a fish. All in all, the setting was serene, the cabin equipped with everything we needed (even a huge jug of maple syrup from the nearby Wild Country maple syrup farm) and a memorable family vacation was enjoyed while our menfolk explored the BWCA not far away. We will definitely be back, Bob was so pleasant to deal with and what you see on VRBO is truly what you get. I would even argue the pictures don't do the main sitting room with the fireplace & view of the lake justice!!

Owner's Response: Emily, thank you for your gracious review. Some of my favorite hours at the lake have been spent in my arm chair, with a book, feet up and a fire to my left and the lake to my right. The weather can do what it pleases (it seems to anyway). I was up the weekend after you left to put the dock in and enjoyed 'smores from the little gift you left! I'm so glad you all had a good time!
