Completely wooded five acre lot with a large two story lake home and 'writer's' bunkhouse. The house has a great stone fireplace, windows everywhere, a large kitchen, two baths, one with a Japanese soaking tub and a mudroom / laundry facilities. A dock and canoe are available for your use.
Both of the property owners grew up and vacationed around water their whole life, including Lake of the Woods, Karth Lake and Lake Superior. This is a retreat from the hustle and bustle of busy city lives.
Bob Tyler purchased this cabin in 2005
The Lutsen area is uniquely known as an artist's retreat and nature lover's wilderness. There is a wonderful array of people living, working and vacationing in the area and you can immerse yourself in many options from this vantage point. If you are a loner and a star gazer there is no better place to see the milky way or the northern lights than laying flat on the dock or the frozen lake in the dead of the night. If you are a Superior National Forest hiker that wants a 'foodie' experience, the trail is within a few miles of the cabin and there are excellent places to eat all along highway 61 leading up to Grand Marais and beyond.
I've said it before, but the ability to totally control your environment is what drew us to this place. Total privacy if you want it, with room for friends and family if that's the weekend's goal.
This has been our second year staying at the cabin. We come up in February for skiing and snowboarding at Lutsen's and this has been the best place we've stayed so far. We used to stay on the resort which was nice however transitioning to the cabin has been a decision we do not regret. Can't get enough of this comfortable and wonderful place even when we're staying in the dead of winter!!
From start to finish, we had a terrific experience renting Honeymoon Trail and renting from Bob. We received prompt responses from Bob and invoicing and payment were a breeze.
The cabin is very clean and the pictures are representative of the cabin and surrounding area. We enjoyed being unconnected for 4 days - and appreciated the fact we could canoe on the lake.
We liked the fact that the cabin was close to grocery, etc. and allows for day trips.
Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home!
I had a wonderfully quiet stay in this comfortable little place in the woods. I loved padding downstairs each morning in bare feet upon the heated floors. Everything I needed for cooking was there, and there are plenty of books on the shelf if one were to inadvertently leave theirs at home. I spent much of my time reacquainting myself with my beloved Northwoods, and this place provided the perfect jumping off point for exploration. I'm happy to say that I managed to finally hike Eagle Mountain - the highest point in Minnesota. One of my favorite aspects of the place was the huge fireplace. I spent my evenings sitting near it, writing and contemplating. I was seeking solitude, and found it in this wonderful spot. I hope to visit again soon!
The property is beautifully furnished with a very distinctive design. It was the perfect space for our family of 4. The location provides solitude while being close to Lutsen. The owner was very helpful regarding mechanical concerns that were remedied in a timely fashion. It was great place for a "spring break" vacation.
We’ve stayed at this property twice now, and look forward to going again. The location is the right mix of seclusion while being within reach of local attractions, food and entertainment. While the photos are accurate, they do not do this cabin justice. It’s a very well kept, high-feature property that is a great value. Visiting during the winter, we appreciate the in-floor heat throughout the cabin, the unique fireplace with ample pre-cut wood, the Japanese soaking tub, and spacious kitchen with high-end appliances.
Ownership is very communicative and excellent to work with!
We pulled up to the property and were delightfully pleased with the look and feel of the cabin. The pictures are right on. My wife and son (13) along with my sister and brother-in- law were ready for a week of peace and quiet along with slowing down the clock which is exactly what we were able to do. The cabin had plenty of room for all of us along with areas inside and out if someone wanted some alone time. We found ourselves enjoying the screen porch the most. Morning coffee, afternoon snacks and evening wine all enjoyed in the screened-in porch. Of course lots of time in the kitchen making wonderful meals only then to be eaten in the dining room along side a beautiful fireplace. There is nothing better than stuffing yourself with gourmet food and then laying next to a big fire to digest and relax.
The bedrooms were great. Master bedroom was very nice and big. The second bedroom was large but the only downside was the double bunk bed was a little squeaky! No big deal!! The master bathroom with its unique whirlpool was very cool. The cabin kitchen was a treat to be able to have plenty of room and nice appliances to work with.
The property was very nice and private and we did not see anyone while we were there. The blueberries were ripe at the time of our stay and I had no problem picking and eating them. I must say that the lake is not really a great lake for swimming, however it is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. The lake has some good size pan fish swimming around and there are some walleye in there but we did not find them. We all enjoyed hearing the small stream entering the lake as well which was a very peaceful and soothing.
I would totally recommend this cabin to rent. It was very clean and very well maintained. I think it would be more suited for families with older children. It is a perfect getaway for couples and small intimate groups. We all agreed that we would stay here again. I want to thank the owners for sharing this wonderful cabin along with all of its great decorating and books. The owners have a great place to relax and slow down. If you stay here make sure you check out the maple syrup business that is close by. Thanks again for a great time at a great place.
This lake home is located on five acres with a detached bunk house and is completely private, backing up to the Superior. It is an area that is a delight for hiking, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. The home is about 15 minutes from the village of Lutsen, as well as Lutsen resort, where you can find several good restaurants, a great golf course and the best downhill skiing in Minnesota. It is about 30 minutes from Grand Marais, where you can find a great many more restaurants, tourist as well as utility stores, a hospital, municipal pool and up close and personal access to Lake Superior.
