Car: not necessary
Karersee/Carezza is part of the community of Welschnofen/Nova Levante and is situated on a sunny alm just at the foot of the Rosengarten-Massif about 1,700 metres above sea level. Nearby is the Karersee. The mountain peaks of the Latemar are reflecting in its emerald-green water. Empress Elizabeth of Austria - called Sissy -, Agatha Christie and Sir Winston Churchill visited Karersee regularly, stayed at the famous Grand Hotel Karezza and admired the beauty of the landscape. There is one smaller supermarket in the village. Restaurants, Pizzerias as well as nice simple huts are inviting for a rest and good meal. A variety of shops are in Welschnofen/Nova Levante. A modern chair-lift from Karersee leads up to the Paolina-Hut about 2,300 metres. This hut is the starting point for many alpine trails and climbing in the area of dwarf 'King Laurin'. The legend says the Alpine-Glow in the evening reminds of his beautiful rose garden which was destroyed in a battle in ancient days.
