Beautiful cottage gite with large garden in a quiet rural hamlet near beaches.

This charming country cottage is situated in a tranquil hamlet, half an hour south of Cherbourg, only 5 minutes drive from the sandy Normandy landing beaches and less than 5 miles from the vibrant market town of Sainte Mere Eglise, with its ancient church, cafés, restaurants and interesting museums. Relax in the large private garden or explore the historic and picturesque sites of the region. Savour the delights of French cuisine in the excellent local restaurants!

The cottage has 2 large sitting-rooms, one with wood-burning stove for cosy cooler days and one overlooking the long, peaceful garden. There is a spacious kitchen and two bedrooms upstairs, each with pocket sprung double beds, plus one with 2 additional bunk beds. There is a bathroom with thermostatic shower and Victorian roll-top tub. This holiday house is a comfortable and characterful home-from-home, an excellent base from which to explore Normandy and all its treasures.

Why Alicia chose Sainte-Mere-Eglise

We chose our cottage in Cibrantot for its charm and unspoilt rural setting, having fallen in love with the area during a holiday to Normandy. There is so much to explore we have not seen half of it in all the time we have owned the cottage and we are still pleasantly surprised by new places and events in the larger locality.

What makes this cottage unique

We love our little stone house, with its historic details. Normandy is still for the most part a homogenous traditional community with a vast wealth of historic buildings and places of interest, plus we are so close to the sea we can get there in 5 minutes by car – a delight on a hot day, or even for a bracing walk in a cooler season.

Within a short drive are the towns of Sainte Mere Eglise and Valognes, boasting ancient churches, museums, excellent restaurants and thriving weekly markets, plus regular car-boot and antique markets. The countryside is unspoilt, hosting many species of wildlife from swallowtail butterflies to large birds of prey. There are countless interesting picturesque villages and ports, with sparsely populated safe sandy beaches close by – the Normandy Invasion landing beaches and museums. A comfortable driving distance away are many chateaux, gardens and parcs to visit, with Bayeux, Cherbourg, Barfleur, St Vaast and other historic towns within easy reach.

Notes

  • In addition to the rental we also require a fully returnable deposit of £150 against damage and / or if the place is left needing extensive cleaning.

    Electricity consumption of £40 per week is included in the rental. Any consumption above this amount is paid for out of the deposit by the visitor. This is to encourage sensible use. The meter is accessible to the visitor and will also be read by the caretaker.
  • Normal changeover day is Saturday during the high season, but changeover days are negotiable outside high season. The rental for short stays is as per day rate advertised or the total weekly rental rate, whichever is lower.
  • Discounts considered for stays longer than three weeks.
