Sunny beach cottage, half block from the sandy beaches of Lake Michigan, 40 miles to Chicago. 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath plus outdoor shower. Lovely front porch perfect for summertime people watching.
Growing pains forced us to move from this house but we stayed here in Miller Beach because we love it so much.
Bryan Woodruff purchased this house in 2003
This is a sunny, adorable cottage perfect for your beach vacation. After spending a day in the sun, rinse the sand off in our outdoor shower. Chicago is less than an hour away for those who like a break from the beach or an evening out in a world-class city.
A half block walk to the beach. Easy highway access. Close to South Shore Train to Chicago.
We had a girls reunion weekend at this lovely home, and enjoyed every moment. Just seconds to walk to the beach, and a few short minutes to the dunes / state park. We enjoyed walks (and runs!) along the beach, and explored many hiking trails along the dunes/ Lake Michigan.
The house was well stocked with paper products, and the kitchen offered a spacious and clean area for cooking and enjoying many meals together. The evenings were perfect for relaxing in the living room, and enjoying the view. The internet worked flawlessly.
Certainly the house is not fully updated, but we found it clean, comfortable, and enjoyed the quirkiness.
The owner was very responsive/prompt in answering all of our questions prior to the trip. Thank you!!!
We recently rented this home while looking for houses in the area for our family's relocation to NW Indiana. It was a great location and good place to come back to each day and unwind or spend a little time on Lake Michigan. Since some of my time there was business related it would also be convenient to mention the house has wifi and my wife liked the washer and dryer (these were not listed as amenities when we rented...may be now though, lol). The owner, upon becoming aware we were relocating, was very helpful with giving us knowledge of the area and the home was in tip top shape upon arrival. Thanks and we'll recommend to family and friends that come for future visits.
This was a wonderful place to stay. Nice and clean and very close to the beach. We had 4 adults, 1 teen, and 3 children and this house accommodated us perfectly. Walked about 1/2 block to the beach. Beach was wonderful. Nice sand with very few rocks. Also within a very short drive from lots of nice hiking. Neighborhood feels very safe. Numerous people in our group jogged area and felt safe the entire time. Neighbors were all friendly. We had an issue with the Wifi not working, but the owner was very quick to respond to help try and remedy the problem (ended up not being his equipment, cable company modem was bad). All in all, this was an amazing house. We will be returning!!!
My girls and I had a great time. Facility was clean and ready to be used. I would definitely go back!
7 of us stayed at this cute beach house. The kitchen is a great space for hanging out and eating, and the living room gets such lovely light in the morning. The kitchen is spare, so if you anticipate doing some cooking you might want to bring a few extra things. The walk to the beach was a minute away and the neighborhood is very residential. About a half mile down the road there's a pizza place and a cute grocery store in case you forgot something.
The rental was a disappointment and it showed that pictures can be very misleading. Up close, the property is not well maintained. The kitchen cabinets are old and not in good condition. The range top was EXTREMELY greasy and had caked-on food; we definitely could not cook there. The only full bathroom has a shower surround that is very cracked and covered in mildew. The downstairs is air conditioned pretty well as long as the ceiling fans are running but the upstairs is VERY warm and uncomfortable. You must walk through one upstairs bedroom to enter the other. The stairs are very narrow and steep and sorely in need of a handrail. My sister fell down the stairs (no alcohol was consumed during the stay) but a rail possibly could have prevented the fall. The front stairs are very chipped concrete and the yard is an unusable jungle. When I approached the owner in an understanding manner (after the stay) he did not seem to react as if he really cared about correcting the problems. I got the impression that he is not really interested in repeat business. I have rented many houses and this house did not measure up to what could reasonably be expected in a rental. The owner made reference to the reasonable price of his property compared with others in the area and he is right, the price is lower, but who wants cheaper when the property is not up to expected standards.
In fairness, the house is VERY close to Lake Michigan, there were good restaurants nearby and everyone was friendly, even the owner was pleasant during our pre-rental contact.
I got the impression that the owner unwilling (or possibly unable) to do the necessary updating but in that case, he should not rent.
I rated the experience as fair because this was a girlfriend's getaway - my sister and three of us who attended high school together more than forty years ago. The good company carried the day
