Spacious shore-side bungalow in an exclusive and historic location

This was a marvellous location for the West of Ireland experience. It seemed very isolated, yet was quite close to amenities such as dining and groceries. We liked the Grainuaille (not sure of spelling) in nearby Newport.

Views in all directions were spectacular. Sheep on the farm behind us, a castle directly beside us, and the ocean in front with islands drifting off into the distance. The kids loved digging around at low tide for shells and crabs.

The property manager was very attentive to our needs and was able to procure a mobile phone for us, got the heating sorted out within twenty-four hours (on a weekend!), and got us into Carrickahowley (with no small effort on her part).

The cottage itself was simply but comfortably furnished, and all clean. We mostly used it as a base of operations to drive in various directions. I would recommend driving to the beach at the far end of Achill Island (the name escapes me -- but they have excellent topographic maps on the walls of the cottage), Kyle Abbey, and the Marble Arch Caves.

I would definitely return to this property! I went there with a group and we all enjoyed it thoroughly.
The apartment was spotless; someone obviously puts in a lot of effort keeping this place clean and tidy! The decor in the bedrooms and bathroom is modern and, to be honest, nicer than the majority of hotels you would stay in! The lounges are comfy, and the fact that there are two makes it great for families and large groups as you can split off if some want to watch TV and others want to chat. The kitchen facilities are great - there was nothing that we wanted to cook that we were unable to - it's like a home away from home.
It is it is in an idyllic location, perfect for walks and taking in the scenery. We were very lucky with the weather which meant that we had the chance to wander along the beaches and down to the local castle.
Communication with the owner was faultless - he was very helpful and we got immediate responses to our questions about the property.
If you have the ability to rent a car, do so. There are some great local villages that you should not miss visiting! The owner was very helpful about giving us directions on how to get about and where we should visit, which made it a whole lot easier for us.
There is a pub in walking distance, Nevin's, which served lovely food and the staff were very attentive - will definitely go back there again when I return to this property.
I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative, and have done so!

This is a lovely house in a beautiful setting with the sea on the doorstep and a view over the mountains all around the house.
The house was very clean, well supplied and nicely furnished. It is very comfortable with a lovely fireplace - perfect after a long walk! And there are many nice walks nearby. Newport is a lovely little town only 5 minutes drive away, and there you can get most things you need. Everybody we met were very friendly and helpful.

I can recommend this house to any family or couple of any age, with or without children. I'm sure we'll go back next year!
