I purchased this beautiful brick victorian home in 1988. The house had been neglected for many years. I fell in love with the structure and bones of the house, and with a great deal of work, I have restored the house and have been able to share it with people from all around the world. We are proud that we have guests that have never missed a year in the 24 years we have been open. I have strives to have the 1880 House a warm comfortable home for everyone to enjoy. Check out our reviews on Trip Advisor and Google Places.
Linda Tarbox purchased this house in 1988
Why the 1880 House??? This is a historic property that is situated on 3 streets in downtown Pulaski NY. The front door of the house looks over the downtown shops on Rte 11 (Salina Street) The Jefferson St. side of the house faces the village south park and Court House. The River St. side of the house is overlooking the famous Salmon River. The house offers high ceilings, crown molding, pocket doors, and plenty of room to roam around. I chose the Friday to Friday check-in --- check-out because the 1880 House is directly across the street from our village south park, where every Friday from the 1st Friday in June to the last Friday of September there is a farmers market with live entertainment. What a better welcome to be able to check in - walk across the street, pick up your fresh produce and bake good for your visit, and listen and dance to live entertainment (great music - different band every week )
The unique benefits are your in the center of the village of Pulaski NY. You are overlooking the famous Salmon River NY. You are just across the bridge from a lovely restaurant 'the River House' and just a short walk up the street from 3 other restaurants. You are in walking distance to banks, sub shops, restaurants, churches and much more.
What a great place for a Family reunion and Golden Anniversary celebration. We had the whole 1880 House to ourselves with our 18 people. (Could have slept at least 10 more--lots of beds!!) The grandkids enjoyed the "man cave" in the lower level, for games and TV. They also were able to work the stairs to the top floor for sleeping. All utensils ever needed were available and the kitchen and outdoor grill and refrigerator were great for cooking when we wanted to. Only drawback was that not all bedrooms have air conditioning/good outside air circulation, so a couple evenings were a little warm, but that was no real problem. Plenty of parking and the view from the various rooms and balconies were fantastic. Lots to do in Pulaski, but the most fun as expressed by grandkids was the whitewater rafting down the Salmon River.
Had a great time and the weather was perfect.
For the past twelve years our group of high school girlfriends and spouses have been meeting for a week's reunion at different places in the country, usually in a large rental home with plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, large dining and meeting area, with an available kitchen and reasonably priced. The 1880 House was the perfect choice this year with an ideal location for touring the scenic and historic area, ample room for all to enjoy, well stocked kitchen for our evening meals, easy off-street parking, comfortable decks & grill and an accommodating owner who was extremely helpful, responsive, efficient and friendly. Besides easy access to salmon fishing next door, our group participated in these activities: boat tour of Thousand Islands, tour of historic Salmon River Fish Hatchery and Falls, ferry trip to Canada, picnicking & hiking in local state parks, farmers' market, Erie Canal Museum, battlefield and museum in Sacket's Harbor, Selkirk Lighthouse, and the local Pulaski historical museum. The sub shop across the street provided wonderful food for our picnics and the Baptist Church down the block welcomed us for Sunday morning worship. All in all, it was a great week for our group and I would highly recommend the 1880 House for anyone traveling to that area.
We had a wonderful family get-together for a week in July. We easily fit 17 adults plus 4 children and had beds to spare. We appreciated having private baths and air conditioning in most of the bedrooms and internet access. The four patio areas allowed lots of space for eating and small group talks. Adults and children alike enjoyed having the river and a park right across the street. A good kitchen with lots of refrigerator and freezer space and all necessary tools, utensil and dishes. The owner was very generous with her supplies especially for the kitchen and the two washers and dryers. The kids loved to play hide and seek in the huge house. The owner was very responsive when the dishwasher didn't work and got it fixed immediately..
We rented the 1880 house for a family house during our sons wedding. Linda allowed us to have the rehearsal dinner for 40 at the house it was perfect! We had 22 guest that night and did not use all the beds. The house is very clean and a great place for large groups. We loved our stay
My husband and I stayed here and instantly felt at home. Linda made sure to let us know we were welcome to go into the refrigerator and cabinets and get what was needed. There was homemade soup and bread to enjoy which was delicious. And the rooms were large and the beds comfortable. The house is adorable with a nice victorian charm and the units had private entrances as well so if you wanted to you could come and go as you pleased. I will be staying here again.
My extended family of 19 stayed at the 1880 house for four nights and five days. We had a blast! Linda's home cooking was delicious and more than enough for all of us - we actually had leftovers that we were able to enjoy later.
The house provided us with the space we needed and more. We never felt cramped or in each other's way - the outdoor spaces are equally as nice as the indoor space!
Linda was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some great ideas on what to see and do!
I would definitely go back again and again.
