This is a lovely quiet garden apartment, facing to the south, on the edge of the spectacular Coolmain beach, located between bustling Kinsale, and beautiful West Cork. It is an ideal base for people wishing to tour Cork and Kerry. It is 15 minutes from Kinsale, known for its restaurants, pubs, shops, galleries and historic buildings. And it is 25 minutes from the musical town of Clonakilty. The flat is attached to an old school house, and has a private entrance and parking. The open-plan kitchen/sitting-room has french doors opening onto a private garden & a sunny patio area. The living area has a spiral staircase leading to a gallery double bedroom. There is also a double bunk-room with beds big enough for most teenagers. You can walk across the beach at low tide to a well-known pub/restaurant, or drive to restaurants in Kinsale. Bass & flounder fishing, bird-watching, riding, wind and kite-surfing, kayaking, surfing, walking, tennis and golf for all levels. A nature lover's paradise. And beautiful skies!
We are 35 minutes drive from Cork Airport. There are direct flights to Cork Airport from the UK and Europe with Ryanair and Aerlingus. There are also ferries from Swansea to Cork, Fishguard to Cork, and Roscoff to Cork. Or from Dublin you can EITHER drive down the east coast of Ireland and enjoy the scenery (approx 5 hrs) OR you can take the new motorway (approx 3 hours).
Once you have booked, just email us a reminder, and we will send you directions!
We stayed in this lovely cottage/carriage house for a week. It was comfortable and peaceful with a nice garden area and a walk down the driveway to the beach where we were usually the only people there. My husband, 10 year old daughter and I rarely left the cottage before 1:00 and, though we ventured farther a couple of days than the surrounding towns, would probably have been just as happy not to. We loved our visit to Ireland and loved this quite place off the beaten path.
Coolmain Beach is within walking distance or a short drive to many other pleasant beaches and secluded coves. The village of Kilbrittain has pubs with pool/darts/Sky TV etc, as well as a shop, bakery and tennis court. Ballinspittle (of moving statue fame) is 3 miles away, with a pub, a supermarket and café. The surfing beach at Garretstown also has a pitch & putt course and tennis court. Coolmain is also 15 minutes from the deep-sea angling village of Courtmacsherry, 25 minutes from the lively musical town of Clonakilty, and its spa facilities at Inchydoney Hotel. Golf can be played at numerous courses in the area.
Other Activities: Kite surfing ,kayaking, bird watching, gathering cockles & mussels, wild flower spotting
