Although we do not serve food many of our guests bring their own groceries and take advantage of the always spotless, fully equipped kitchen. You will find oil and vinegar, salt and pepper, numerous spices, dish soap, foil, wrap, wax paper, pots and pans, plates, dishes, flatware, glasses, sharp cooking knives and various utensils.
At the Lodge we endorse slow living, voluntary simplicity and a love and respect for nature. Accordingly, we are a television and microwave oven free zone.
Where others would have a home theater, our living room instead features an 80 gallon freshwater aquarium. Come and meet Brutus and Ivana, the resident Red Devil cichlids.
We call it 'The Aquarium Lounge'.
So rather than electronic blather, the sounds you can expect to hear are the trickling of water, bird song, the breeze whispering through the trees, nocturnes by Chopin, ballads by Diana Krall.
Our aesthetic is informed by the American Arts and Crafts movement. Though not a museum, you may notice many craftsman inspired touches throughout the house and adjoining property.
We emphasize cleanliness. Allergy sufferers, the chemically sensitive and those who simply don't care to be assaulted by caustic fragrances will appreciate that we use only naturally scented soaps and cleansers for the laundry and household. The house always smells fresh and clean.
We know how complicated it's gotten to take some toiletries along. So In the baths we provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and toothpaste. Brands currently featured are Dr. Bronners or Trader Joe's.
The Lodge is recognized by Washington State as a Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary. Nature lovers will enjoy basking in their soothing song as the resident birds gather at our baths and feeders.
The grounds are green and manicured and the fruit orchard boasts 23 trees. Under the towering conifers you'll find a huge log picnic table, complementary charcoal barbecues and outdoor lounge furniture.
If it is respite you are seeking, you've come to the right place. Put your ambitions aside and head for one of the several Pawley’s Island Presidential cotton rope hammocks hanging beneath the Western Red Cedars.
Come……………. study the art of the hammock.
I grew up in San Luis Obispo, California and graduated high school there in 1977.
I came to Orcas Island for the Summer of 1985 and by Fall I was too broke to leave.
It was a good thing though because after 28 years I can't imagine living anywhere else.
We live in our home of 23 years in the North Beach neighborhood of Eastsound.

When you travel, part of you would love to feel at home everywhere you go. At the Lodge on Orcas you can do both. Have that vacation you so deserve, with all the conveniences of home such as a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, and comfortable beds. But add long walks on the beach, the fresh island air, and the option to dine in the many fabulous restaurants in the village. Kayaking, adventuring or relaxing on the large sun deck, you make your vacation choice a comfortable, yet affordable one. We are here to serve you!
When you come to the Lodge you will be struck by the verdant surroundings. Sitting on the second story sun deck you will be surrounded by fragrant, hanging flower baskets. As you look out over the lush, manicured lawn you'll hear the song of the birds at the feeder and the breeze whispering through the majestic firs and cedars.
Should you get a little drowsy, just head on down to one of the hammocks hanging in the trees and slip off into a well deserved nap. When you are ready, it is a 5 minute walk to beautiful Crescent Beach. You can visit Joanie & Dave and rent a Kayak for a smooth ride out on the water. When you get back to land, if you are hungry, it is a 10 minute walk into Eastsound, where abundant feasts are offered in a variety of restaurants. Or come back to the Lodge and prepare your own delicious meal in our fully stocked kitchen. After dinner, enjoy a star filled night sky on the deck while sipping a hot cup of your favorite tea. It just doesn't get any better.
My husband and I had such a wonderful time at the Lodge - the whole place is very clean and comfortable - LOVED the fish tanks, the deck, FULLY equipped kitchen - felt right at home - inspired to add hammocks and porch swing to the home front after experiencing the relaxation imbued from their use here.
The highlight though was our host, David - totally charming and accommodating, and his back up host Quija was a real delight as well.
Great value for the price - location central to Moran State Park/Rosario - easy walk to downtown East Sound (or borrow one of their bikes) - great restaurants in town - ask David.
Highly recommend this place to anyone!
The Lodge on Orcas Island is a healing nature sanctuary. Sit in the swing or lay in the hammock under the towering firs and cedars, immersed in birdsong, inhaling the sweet smell of earth and conifers. Or take solace in the chaise lounge on the 2nd story sun deck. Take a lovely 5 minute walk to Crescent Beach, the longest public beach on the island and see what Neptune has tossed up.
While you're there you can visit Joni at Crescent Beach Kayaks and pick up a boat to paddle around Ships Bay.
When you head back to land, take a walk through the Crescent Beach preserve. You'll find a rich network of shoreline and intertidal zone, freshwater wetlands, and Douglas-fir forest. Wildlife watchers may see osprey, eagles, river otter, and a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl.
By now you should be getting hungry so take 10 minutes and walk into the village of Eastsound where all kinds of great food awaits.
It's all within a 20 minute walk from the Lodge on Orcas Island.
So what are you waiting for? We are waiting to welcome you!
