Only a few houses from Glendale blvd mentioned in this Ny Times ad
Neighborhood feel, friendliness, more relaxed pace of life. Love the diversity!Location ,2 minute walk to shops, restaurants, and 3 minutes drive to freeway.
Original Character, Quiet Location, hear duck flying to river, humming birds, many other birds. Family of Racoon, convenient to shops but very quiet.
This is our 2nd stay in Atwater Village. We stayed in the house next door last July which is also owned by Kevin. The house was very neat and tidy. Glendale Ave is within walking distance, just a couple of minutes away where there are nice restaurants, and shops, small grocery store. On Sundays, there is a wonderful Farmers Market.Conveniently located to our new grandson's home in Eagle Rock.Kevin does a nice job with his properties.
We had a good, if unseasonably hot for May, 11 day stay in this cute cottage. We were visiting family within easy walking distance so did not need a car. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, the bathroom satisfactory and the small kitchen perfectly adequate for the needs of the three of us. The kitchen units were in the original style of the house but the appliances were modern. There is an efficient washer/dryer.
Outside there is an enclosed deck at the back with seating, a small porch at the front with table and chairs and a shady front garden - a pleasant place to sit. Greensward Road is quiet and nearby Glendale Boulevard, though busy, was not too obtrusive. You can hear the traffic on the freeway just across the LA River but it didn't disturb us.
You can easily walk to the edge of Griffith Park and, although we did not use public transport, there seems to be a good bus service to Downtown and Glendale and Glendale Station is walkable.
There is a good range of eating places, coffee shops and bars close at hand - try Bon Vivant, Canele on Glendale and the Tam O'Shanter on Los Feliz.
Kevin Williams, the owner, is friendly and easily contacted. He quickly sorted out a minor plumbing problem and promptly replaced a broken wine glass.
We didn't meet the raccoon family ;-)
All in all, a good place to stay.
The location of this house is great, but the rest of the house is pretty tired. We dropped off all of our belongings at 3 PM, clothes, computers, etc. and left for several hours. We locked and checked all the doors. We returned at 10 PM to find the back door not only unlocked, but wide open. Needless to say, that made us very nervous and we immediately called the owner. The next day he apologized and explained that he had given the front door security code, mistakenly, to a tenant staying in another of his homes and they had left it open. That should NEVER happen. Aside from that, the biggest thing is that this house is almost 100 years old and 95% of it is original and in need of some major renovations. It was pretty clean, except under the beds and in the closets and some cobwebs in a couple of rooms. The kitchen, however, is pretty much of a disaster and we did not use it at all. The insides of the drawers are dirty and there are minimal utensils, pots, pans, silverware etc. The appliances are ok. There is a blender motor - no top, one knife, no frying pan, etc. The pictures show a rug in the living room and much of the furniture is not as shown. If you just need a place to crash, this could work if it were $100 per night.
Kevin created a retro look for this cute house. The house was clean and neat. The kitchen is small but served our needs just fine (loved the gas stove!) The bath tub has an overhead shower head like a spa and felt so good after a long day sightseeing. The rooms have large very comfortable beds and if you don't like air conditioning (which the house has) you can just leave the over head fans on at night. The location of the house is great. You are only 38 minutes from Disneyland (with no traffic), only a short distance from Universal, close to Pasadena and all the wonderful museums there, and very close to the best little airport in CA - the Bob Hope (Burbank). We were staying over a weekend and got to walk to the wonderful Farmers Market where they sell things like golden and purple oyster mushrooms, grass fed beef, the best fish tacos on the planet, fresh eggs, delicious fruit and vegetables, homemade soap and candles, honey, and so much more (the custard flan's were to die for). Wonderful food and friendly people. We bought food to make breakfast at the house and ate out on the back patio the next morning. We also found a great food truck - "EL Flamin Taco" that was not too far away that served things we had never heard of before. Across the street from the food truck was The Tam O' Sahanter - a sort of 'old school' restaurant that served prime rib and has the table that Walt Disney and his 'Imagineers' ate at and planned DisneyLand. Some of the ideas are still carved in the table top. If you ask the host for the table (best to reserve it for 5 pm) and are lucky enough to get it, be sure to bring tracing paper (regular paper is not good enough) and a good regular pencil and you can do a rubbing of one of the famous "ideas"! Really cool for anyone into the history of Disney. This house is within walking distance to Starbucks, bakeries, a wonderful little market, and interesting restaurants. Kevin is a fair and responsive host and keeps his places nicely maintained.
Very nice place. Just as described, except not possible to use Wi-Fi. We were on, but not able to get anywhere. Well stocked with linens, dishes, soaps, etc. Comfortable beds and a good shower. Enjoyed our stay.
We found the house to be the perfect size and nicely appointed. It was an easy to drive on surface streets to my brother's house in echo park. Every morning we would get coffee at Starbucks 2 blocks away then walk down to PROOF which is the most amazing bakery. We found everything we needed to be local and within walking distance.
Kevin was always available to us if we needed him. The house was exactly as I expected it to be ( or better) from the pictures. Kevin also has another house right next door which I have suggested that my sister and her family rent next year so we can be side by side when we visit our brother.
Written up in details magazine as one of top emerging cities in world http://www.details.com/culture-trends/critical-eye/201202/new-chic-urban-neighborhoods, Only about a few 100 ft from LA river which is very nice in this area because it feels like a real river. Here there are many birds and duck. Family of raccoons visit occascionally, and a very large bumble bee, harmless just makes a lot of noise.LOL. I have 2 bikes where you can ride them along this river which has a bike path that goes for miles and miles.Walk to GRIFFITH PARK, which has everything like hiking, tennis, horseback, pool, tennis court, soccer, and more. Less than 1/4 mile to all of Atwaters Shops, eateries, coffee houses, even Trader Joes is less than 1/4 mile away!!
