Papa Jim's Place is a lovely 1930's Cedar Key Cracker House, updated with all the amenities a couple or family could want for a relaxing visit.
Since this is our family's 2nd home, we keep it ready to use, with everything from dishes and cookware to DVD's for the evenings, and board games for the kids.
Built in the mid-1930's on a double lot, Papa Jim's Place has plenty of space for the whole family to spread out. A large semi-fenced back yard gives the kids a place to play, or a great sunning location. Just yards away are the public park, with a playground for your children, and the public beach just steps past that.
Almost all of Cedar Key is within walking distance of the house; being not even a block off main street, you're just moments from award-winning food (think Tony's World Champion clam chowder), all the art shops, curio stores, and second-hand you can stand! On Dock street you'll find daytime fun and more shops, and in the evenings, plenty of nightlife and live music.
Within walking distance is golf cart rental, boat rental and tours, and a marina if you bring your own boat.
For hunters and fishing fans, check with us ahead of time for recommendations if you need, for local captains and hunting guides we enjoy spending time with.
With central heat and A/C, you'll be comfortable regardless of the outside temperature. We enjoy a nice morning breakfast with family in the Florida room, watching the world wake up out the large windows.
We welcome you to our home, and ask that you make yourself comfortable and treat it as your own during your stay. If you have any questions or comments, please make sure to call or email us.
Local to the region, our family lives and plays in the area. Our primary home is just a quick drive from Papa Jim's, but secluded in the woods. We use Papa Jim's ourselves all the time, to get some fun time on the water.
Cedar Key is still lie the community of old, where everyone knows our kids, you better drive under the speed limit, and you can still walk anywhere worth going!
Taggert purchased this cottage in 2008
This home was in our family, and we purchased it when we had the opportunity. With a wealth of local festivals and eateries, we're never at a loss for something to do when we hang out in Cedar Key. And neither will you be. From the sedate to the active, and all in-between, there something for everyone in the family.
Though there are condo's on Cedar Key, they are not our style. We prefer the quiet, informal, and homey nature of our house. Built in the 1930's, it has all the charm of old Florida, but with the updated amenities we all crave. Sit on the front porch and watch the world go by, and feel free to use your laptop with our free Wi-Fi. Though not a mansion, we have comfortably stayed at the house with friends, and the kids always bring friends along when we visit.
Gorgeous cottage, right in the perfect location. Across the street from the park, the beach and in walking distance to everything downtown... THANK YOU for such an awesome little place!
awesome!!!...very quaint and comfy...felt like home!!!....other than the shower....i only wish mine was that nice!!!....
We loved our stay at Uncle Jim's Place. Very convenient to the park and downtown. Looking forward to next time!
This cracker house was exactly what we were looking for! It completely gives the "feel" of the quaint fishing village. The location is perfect for walking downtown, the amenities in the house were what we needed for two adults and two teenagers. The remodeling of the bath room was very nice, beds were comfortable and the sun porch was so nice.
We visited all around Cedar Key, downtown, museum, art galleries, Holey Moley (great donuts), Tony's (best clam chowder ever!), Steamer's was good, not great. We rented a golf cart to visit the rest of the island such as airstrip, cemetery and nature boardwalk.
Not a complaint as much as a personal preference, our beds didn't have top sheets on them. We prefer them, so we looked, found sheets and put them on - solved!
We stay at Papa Jim's place quite a bit and we always enjoy every minute of it!! My husband and I call it "Our home away from home". The owner is a great guy who will go out of his way to make sure you have a great stay!
We rented the house for 2 weeks with my elderly parents (86 & 90) to get them out of New England. The house was great, although they had difficulty with the shower. We all loved the sun porch and the front porch. The beds were very comfortable. Everything is within walking distance, and the owners graciously dropped off 2 wheelchairs so we could take my parents for the short walk to the park/beach, for a stroll into town and even out to the fishing pier. My husband and I rented a kayak, and also went on many local walks. The sunsets were great. We took a trip to crystal river see the manatees and another to Gainesville to see the gators. Locally, Steamers and the big deck were favorites, as well as Tony's. It was a great place to stay and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. They even let us stay an extra day as our flight home had to be rescheduled because of the blizzard.
We were in Cedar Key last February for about 2 weeks. Papa Jim's place was a great place to stay. Not only does the house fit in with the lifestyle of the area, it is just very unique. We felt very comfortable and had everything we needed. I feel the owner went out of his way to accommodate us. If we had questions he was very friendly and responded right away. There is quite alot to do in this area. Especially for the nature seekers and people who like to fish, or kayak. Lot's of history here with a few nice museums. Plenty of shops to visit to see the local artwork too. You can walk to everything. I would love to go back. It was one of the most relaxing vacations ever for us.
The only house on the road, we're out of the local traffic pattern, but still within walking distance to all the local restaurants and shops. There is a golf cart rental establishment within a block for those so inclined.
Cedar Key has something for everyone. Relaxation and quiet, fishing, boating, a museum and library, award-winning foods, plenty of quaint shops for your browsing, scenic drives all around the island, and all the fresh seafood and clams you could ever want!
