Four 4 star holiday cottages with outdoor heated swimming pool in countryside

Set on the borders of a regional park and champagne vineyards, La Ferme des Tourterelles provides an oasis of calm. There are four cottages recently converted from barns, sleeping 8/10, 6/7, 4/5 and 4 people, each decorated to a high standard providing all comforts. Each have their own private terrace surrounded by honeysuckles and roses. They line a courtyard and all have access to the large garden and outdoor heated swimming pool which have fabulous views of the rolling hills of forest and arable fields.

You can relax on one of the many terraces, play games such a table-tennis or boules. There is much to occupy you from visiting the medieval towns of Bar-sur-Aube or Troyes, shopping in the biggest factory outlets at Troyes, having fun at Nigloland the 3rd largest amusement parks in France, following the champagne route discovering great good value champagnes, walking or cycling in the countryside, or partaking in the water sports on the lakes in the Regional Park nearby.

La Ferme des Tourterelles at Eclance: We are situated in Eclance on the borders of the champagne producing region and the ParkRegional Naturel of the Forest d'Orient. Eclance is a small though social village with our guests welcome to attend any social gathering. It is predominantly a village based on agriculture. La Ferme des Tourterelles used to house dairy cattle whose milk was used by the Eclance cheese maker to make a cheese well known in these parts. Whilst we have been able to revive at least the farm buildings, the cheese maker is now no longer in existance.

Our gardens and pool look out onto the forest of the Regional Park, with the forests and its wildlife protected as a Natura 2000 site. Wildlife is abundant with the seasons greeting different birds as they migrate across our region. Deer and wild boar can also be seen.

For those who book a week at La Ferme des Tourterelles, a bottle of champagne is on offer from our favourite champagne makers Philippe Legout from Rouvres-les-Vignes.

Les Chouettes (The Owls) has been converted from the old milking barn into a large contemporary dwelling of for eight or ten people. The limestone walls have been kept partly exposed in the sitting room (and downstairs bedroom) which with the wood burner nestling in the chimney place provides additional ambience. There is a well equipped kitchen opening up to the dining room making meal times a social event. The windows look out onto the farm courtyard with the trellis work of clematis, honeysuckle and roses. There are two main bedrooms with king size beds and satellite TV along with ensuite bath/shower rooms. The other two twin bedrooms have two single beds though each are large enough to accommodate a third bed if requested. The twin bedrooms share a shower room and a wash room, each with their own toilets. The first floor has an oak style wooden floor. A large terrace with wood furniture is accessible from the dining room and the courtyard of La Ferme des Tourterelles.

We are on the borders of the Regional Park of the Fôret d'Orient with three large lakes, one dedicated to wildlife, one to power water sports and one to sailing/windsurfing etc; with the route du Champagne, Côtes des Bars. Nigloland the third largest amusement park is only five minutes away nestling in a wooded valley with gardens, great fun for all. The largest factory outlet shopping area in Europe can be found on the outskirts of Troyes only 40 minutes away. Explore the narrow streets of the medieval centres of Troyes and Bar-sur-Aube (10 minutes) for us. The area is renowned for the many wooden churches. Our back garden looks out onto fields and rolling hills with woodland. Cycle the quiet roads or off road, many walks around the area, and masses of wildlife. You can stay here for long, we are within 2 hours drive to Reims, Nancy, Dijon, Chablis & Beaune and Paris by train.

  • The beds are already made up for your arrival, with quality percale cotton sheets. Towels provided for the bathroom. 2 single beds available at 55€ per week, 45€ per week-end each thus beds for 10 people.
    Towels are available for hire for use by the pool, otherwise please bring your own.
    A cot for a baby is available for hire at 20 € a week
    It is requested that you leave Les Chouettes in the same state that you found it at the end of your stay. Optionally, there is a cleaning service of 70 € to be requested in advance.
    Contract issued by Clévacances to be signed to confirm reservation along with deposit of up to 30% of rental.
    Deposit of 300€ is to be paid upon arrival to cover any breakages etc. Returned to you when you leave or at least within 14 days of your departure.

Notes: The downstairs bedroom and facilites have been designed to make it easy for someone hard of walking or in a wheelchair access. Unfortunately, the courtyard is laid to stone so this does not make it easy if you ahve a wheelchair with narrow wheels. Please advise if you use a wheelchair as a ramp can be made available for access to the outdoor terrace. There is an outdoors table tennis table and boules/petanque court as well as a croquet set. Toilet paper is available in the bathrooms on your arrival though you will need to replace them through the week. Cycles and toys are available for children. The outdoor heated pool is large 15m x 7m. Available from mid may to mid september. It is shared with the guests staying in Les Tourterelles, Les Moineaux and Les Hirondelles. More often than not, we find that due to the many activites around, each family express surprise how it appears to be for their private use as other guests are out or use the pool at different times

Wonderfully comfortable Gite

Four children under 9, parents and grandparents - a tall order for a gite to suit ev eryone but Les Chouettes certainly provides all that you'd want - space, comfort and warmth in surroundings that allow the children freedom in safety and the adults the chance to relax in beautiful surroundings. The barn has been converted with sensitivity, in very good taste with simple but really comfortable furniture, great beds with white cotton bed linen and lovely pictures. We all felt we could live there indefinitely!

We were too early in the season for the swimming pool but we had a log burning stove instead, all ready to curl up with a book beside it.

Sarah and James are great hosts - there if you need them and happy to chat if you need information but also happy to leave you alone.

Following a hectic 2 days at eurodisney, what a relief to arrive at such a haven of rural tranquility! The house has been beautifully renovated and is very well equipped throughout. The beds are very comfortable and the bed linen is very luxurious! It was lovely to have a wood burning stove, and the kitchen was ideal for feeding large numbers. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly, and the whole set up was perfect for a family holiday with 4 children aged from 3-8.
Owner's Response: We finished our renovations of an old barn to create Les Chouettes at the end of 2011 so it is wonderful to receive such a good review. The kitchen is open to the dining room which makes a convivial place to prepare and eat meals together as a family or group.
