|Minimum Stay||2 - 4 nights|
Imagine a place where the sparkling Pacific glows sapphire by day and at nightfall, erupts in a kaleidoscopic display of orange, pink and purple.
Imagine a place where birdsong and the whistle of cool ocean breezes are the soundtrack to life – a life that, somehow, exists just three minutes' walking distance to a funky beach town where open-air markets, roadside chicken roasts and oceanfront cocktails are part of the everyday.
Imagine a home where sophisticated design meets homey spaces. An architectural gem that is as unique as San Juan del Sur itself – a place that feels both like home and like somewhere you never knew existed.
Imagine a getaway of vibrantly colored windowpanes that frame spectacular ocean views, and of four tropical balconies that invite you to check real life – and all its stressors – at the door. An escape where you can relax and unwind with the Pacific at your feet.
Imagine your own little slice of paradise.
Welcome, friends. Welcome to Casa 72, an oceanview retreat perched atop a gently sloping hillside, where panoramic ocean views are bounded only by the horizon's own limits.
Welcome to a home where you can swing in a poolside hammock or stare at an inky sky, alive with the twinkling of far off constellations.
A home where you can gather around your private pool, sheltered by the shade of a local Guaiacum (guayacán) tree.
A place where you can grill up the catch of the day in the comfort of your own patio, or take a two-block sojourn to a smorgasbord of restaurants and cuisines downtown.
Welcome to a place where sea breezes whisper and birds chirp, to a getaway where convenience does not come at the price of relaxation. Because while Casa 72 is just two blocks to lively downtown, its bluff-top location affords not only incredible views, but also privacy and leisure away from the hustle and bustle.
So whether you stay a week or a month, you won't need a rental car to explore lively San Juan del Sur and its myriad attractions.
And for those who do rent a vehicle, the wonders of Nicaragua are yours to explore: Scour the coast from south to north, catching epic waves and surfing 'til you can surf no more. Enjoy the best daytrips that our friendly country has to offer, and come home every night to a welcoming home-away-from-home.

- - - NEARBY ACTIVITIES & ATTRACTIONS
San Juan del Sur is an idyllic blend of beachside funkiness and Nicaraguan charm. But if you can drag yourself away from our little town, here are a few of our favorite activities and daytrips:
• SURFING: San Juan del Sur is convenient to several world-famous surfing beaches.
• CANOPY TOUR: Just five minutes from Casa 72, our favorite zipline tour offers 2.5 km (1.5 miles) of high-flying fun.
• SAILBOAT TOUR: Afternoon sailing tours depart daily, welcoming you to snorkel, scuba dive, fish or just enjoy the views.
• INSHORE OR DEEP-ESA FISHING: Take to the Pacific and fight your way to a champion catch of sailfish, marlin or dorado.
• CHRIST OF THE MERCY: A beautiful hike over a hanging bridge to Central America's largest Jesus statue – and a fantastic view.
• OMETEPE ISLAND: The drive and a ferry-boat ride are worth it when you see the twin-cones of volcanic Ometepe island.
• GRANADA: The colonial city of Granada offers up equal doses of charm and history. While you're there, book a tour to Lake Nicaragua's hundreds of isletas (tiny islands)!
• LAGUNA DE APOYO: Just two hours from our home, this crystalline lagoon is a perfect daytrip for tranquil swimming and picnicking.
• MOMBACHO VOLCANO: The journey up the towering cone of Mombacho Volcano – home to four separate craters! – takes you on a picturesque ride through coffee fields and fairytale cloud forest.
• MASAYA VOLCANO: An active volcano. Known by Spanish conquistadors as the “entrance to hell.'

Fabulous San Juan del Sur awaits!
Built in 1972 by a renown nicaraguan architect, for his own family.
Samuel Barreto purchased this house in 1972
Our family vacations in San Juan del Sur since the 1930's. The trip from Managua back then involved taking a horse-driven coach, a train to Granada, a steamship (vapor Victoria) to San Jorge, and another train to San Juan del Sur. Our great grandmother rented a house for a couple of months every year. Our grandmother bought a house. Our father, an architect, built Casa 72 in 1972.
In the heart of town
No car needed
Ample and comfortable spaces
Enjoy the lively town life, day and night, within walking distance
Excellent for families or small (9-12) groups
Thank you very much for having us in your wonderful house. We all had a great time! Luis and Darling treated us like royalty. The food was amazing, Darling made us breakfast and dinner. The pool was fabulous too, we enjoyed the atmosphere and all the furniture. We felt very welcome and would love to return again!
If you're looking for a great house, right in town, with easy access to everything and it comes with a wonderful caretaker. Look no further. You've found the right house. Our family will be back for another great experience.
This house was great - we were all very pleased with our choice to stay here. The large airy rooms, pool, quirky-cool character, and on-site housekeeping were huge bonuses that exceeded our expectations going in. The house really is a couple of blocks off the beach and we were glad for that as it buffered us from the noise of the beachfront avenue. While the beach in SJDS was nice, the real gems are out of town. Remonso and Maderas were our favorite beaches although we didn't try Hermosa - it was closed because "Survivor" was being filmed there during our stay! The pool was perfect for our two young children and was impeccably maintained by Luis and his wife. Luis and Darlen were a wonderful addition to our experience at this house, as they looked out for our every need and were available around the clock. We weren’t sure how it would be to have staff share the grounds with us, but it ended up being an enriching experience. We took them up on their offer to cook for us on several occasions and were very pleased. Two highlights were a seafood feast of shrimp and lobster, and a traditional Nica meal including gallo pinto (fried beans and rice), maduros (cooked, soft bananas) and home-made tortillas. Better than the restaurants in town! We had a group of 8 and had more than enough room for us to spread out. We did have a rental car and it was convenient to have, although not absolutely necessary as there are shuttles heading out to the various beaches. Overall, I give this VRBO house my highest recommendation.
Beautiful house, perfect location, no better place to stay in San Juan Del Sur.
The house is beautifully decorated, combining modern style with historic elements!
This was the best "home-away" that I have ever stayed at. I found it through the home away app on my iPhone and it is exactly what it looks like in the pictures. Actually, even better. Very clean, spacious and very cool architecture. It is a big house with a beautiful view of San Juan and the ocean. Perfect to see the sunset. It is located right downtown, without the feeling of being downtown. No noise, very safe with electric fence and not much traffic nearby. The caretakers of the house live there but you don't even know they are there. They clean and take care of the pool and garden.
The owner is very helpful and speaks english and spanish fluently. I highly recommend this house to any family or a group of friends. I personally stayed there with 7 friends and had an amazing stay. I am planning another trip to San Juan Del Sur, just to stay here for a few weeks.
