I was looking for a plece of rest and relaxation and visited Duncans Bay for the first time in 1992.The tranquility, proximity to the beach, the sound of the sea from my bedroom, and the nature walks made it the perfect place to get away from the stress and strin of every day work. I bought the villa in 1993 and it's as been my home away from home ever since.
There are a combination of factors create the atmosphere at Duncans Bay : the fisherman with the daily fresh catch of fish, lobster, and crabs. The area abounds with talented Jamaica artists doing their wood carvings in the nearby craft shop: Desmond - the wicker worker who made my dining chairs. Nelson Fisher - the talented painter, a native son of the trelawny, who does landscapes and still - life acrylic painting. Several pieces of his work are hanging on the wall in the villa.
The peacefulness which allow me to stay on the beach or my front lawn and read a book all day makes it the perfect getaway for me.
My wife and I came to get married on the beach in Jamaica and stayed at the Palm Villa.
We had an amazing time.
The villa was always kept clean and Ms. Jennifer made our stay delightful.
We awoke to a great breakfast every morning and came home to a scrumptious dinner every night.
We couldn't have asked for a better experience.
From the moment we arrived to the very last hug, Jennifer (the most amazing lady we've had the pleasure of meeting:) had made us feel right at home. There is a lot to say about this wonderful trip, as the others have mentioned, this gracious host has worked harder than anyone to ensure everything was comfortable, clean, yummy and pleasant during our stay with our two little boys 7 & 9 years old. We are happy and excited to book for next February as we loved every aspect of this trip. If we could sum it up it would be a relaxing, pleasant, local, safe, clean, super fun experience.
Our most sincere Thank you to Jennifer for taking care of us, so grateful:)) We've never been so spoiled in our lives!:) We had no idea what to expect when we booked and it turned out more than ever imagined.
Just a few things we got to do; snorkeling, eating fresh lobster and fish almost daily, going into town to the weekly local market, Day trip to Mystic Mountain (bob sledding in the mountain, Zip lining, seeing exotic animals and birds), Swimming with Dolphins (incredible experience!!:), meeting the locals and learning so much about this great culture and history, swimming in paradise every day:) We highly recommend Palm Villa, you will love every minute of your stay. Some quick notes, come prepared as you would on any trip with the necessary meds you might need (Tylenol, repellant, sun screen, etc) if not, no worries, there is a pharmacy in town, have some Jamaican currency on you (works out cheaper to buy local stuff) and Jennifer will take care of you:) One Love.
Our one-week rental at this comfortable beach cottage was a new experience for us, we have rented many times before in different countries but have never received any special services during our stays. The "full service" provided by Jennifer really added a new dimension to our vacation! We got to taste many Jamaican specialties without having to venture further than our own pretty front yard, and the meals and drinks were tastier than those at restaurants we visited. She took us to the market to select the ingredients we wanted and we were amazed by the huge assortment of fruits and veggies. We also enjoyed the quiet location, the pretty beach and the local pub ... just read what has already been said by others :o).
Our family of five just returned from our stay at Palm Villa in the quaint parish of Duncans. This was our first visit to Jamaica and we LOVED IT!
The parish of Duncans is smaller and less touristy than other places in Jamaica. You will have a more authentic and relaxed Jamaican experience in this area. The parish has a nice grocery store, bakery and meat shop. You'll also have access to fresh fish directly from the local fisherman. Within walking distance of the villa, you'll find a bar/eatery called Leroys and another small bar/eatery. You'll also find shops where the locals sell souvenirs, wood carvings, paintings and etc.
When we arrived at Palm Villa, we were greeted by our host, Jennifer. She immediately took us under her wing and made us feel right at home. We found Palm Villa to be well appointed, clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. We especially liked having comfortable beds and bathrooms in each of the bedrooms. Other features that we appreciated were the ceiling fans (there is air conditioning, but we didn't use it), WIFI, and lovely yard with shady areas to relax in.
Jennifer is a wonderful person who will do everything that she can to make your stay enjoyable. She will cook amazing meals for you and so much more. Jennifer is well known and respected in the area and we were so happy to have her there to help us understand how to use Jamaican currency, recommend things to do in the area, arrange for locals to take us snorkeling and to visit a cave, negotiate prices on our souvenirs, and arrange for transportation when we wanted to go to Ocho Rios and etc. She uses a driver named Mr. Mason who is excellent. He is a safe driver who knows many things about the area and he will point things out as he drives.
Palm Villa is a treasure in the Duncan's area. While we visited, there were many people who came by the villa and commented on how they wished that they had been able to stay there as opposed to their current location. Palm Villa is more private than other cottages, it has a beautiful yard filled with flowering plants and trees and it is a two minute walk to the beach. The beach is magnificent. It is private and very expansive. We were often at the beach with other locals but it was never crowded. We swam, snorkeled, and walked the beach on a daily basis.
If you are looking for a tranquil, relaxing, safe, and wonderful place to visit, choose Duncans and Palm Villa. You won't be sorry, just do it!
We (3 couples) stayed at Palm Villa for 1 week. Lovely, clean cottage. Just a short walk to a very clean, quiet beach. Our housekeeper/cook, Ms. Jennifer, was excellent! We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and dinners each day. Nothing short of a miracle that she could create in that little kitchen. Ms. Jennifer makes a delicious rum punch, too. We enjoyed a relaxing massage given by Ann. She brought her table to the cottage and set up in the living room. Saturday night live music at the local bar, Leroy's Reggae Spot. The yard has plenty of shade. The beach not so much shade, but cool breezes kept us comfortable. The local supermarket (Chen's) allowed us to charge our groceries for the week, with was very convenient. If you want a quiet, relaxing vacation, with no worries, then Palm Villa is your place. Thanks so much Ms. Jennifer! and Natalie!
It was a paradise... We were tired of snowy NY, we suddenly decided to take one week vacation in early Feb. We were wishing somewhere warm enough to swim, beautiful nature, quiet, great food. Palm Villa was exactly what we wanted. We don't need to hustle touring famous tourist spots, we wanted to just relax. The turquoise ocean and white sand beach are just a minute walk. There were fishermen next to the beach, we got fresh lobsters and crabs for dinner.
Friendly Jennifer who took care of us whole stay. She is an amazing cook, she introduced various local foods to us, different kind of fresh juice everyday, her piña colada was great, too. Our three years old son really attached to her. He still talk about her. Before arriving, we were expecting to go to try some restaurant, as a city people mind. You could, but it could be a hustle. We really enjoyed Jennifer's delicious meals.
One day, we visited her brother who runs fruits farm in the mountain. There you see all kinds of local fruits, and taste them in just picked! On the way back, you can visit a Rum estate. we were five minute late to join the last tour, we missed.
All over, we satisfied our stay in Palm Villa. We were there just three of us, you can also enjoy with friends, families, couples.
We will definitely go back!
See part one.
Jennifer, who took care of us, is a treasure. She cooks (wow, does she cook!), and takes care of the house. The beds were made every day, with nice little touches, such as sculpted towels, there are fresh flowers throughout the house, and Jennifer even did out personal laundry. We want to take her home with us!!
Jennifer’s meals were awesome and everything was freshly made. For breakfast, there was some combination of pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, festival (dumplings), and sometimes a local dish, such as ackee with salt fish. For lunches and dinners, we ate chicken, beef, pork, lobster, crab, fish, many veggies, and salads. We highly recommend the jerk chicken – it was a favourite with everybody, and was requested more than once. And there was always a variety of local fresh fruit at meals – we stuffed ourselves with banana, pineapple, watermelon, papaya, mango, grapefruit, oranges, and June plums (Jennifer brought us the June plums from the tree at her home).
Much of the food is available locally – we went with Jennifer to beach to buy fish and lobster just as the fishermen came in. There is a fruit and veggie truck that comes by the house three times a week, with a lovely display of luscious goodies.
Jennifer also arranged for other experiences, such as a trip to an offshore reef to go snorkeling, and took us to meet the local craftspeople. She is a fountain of useful information, and has lots of local contacts.
All-in-all, Palm Villa has been a wonderful, relaxing home away from home.
