2 bedroom self-catering holiday rental with large garden near Eurostar terminal

Yobaba Lounge's London location is a good sized 2 bedroom apartment on the top (3rd) floor of Dalmeny Mansions, an imposing Victorian mansion block overlooking private gardens at the back. Tufnell Park is a leafy residential area in the heart of London in the Camden and Islington region, proud of its mix of cultures from all over the world. The apartment was renovated a few years ago using only non-toxic materials. With wooden floors, polished plaster walls, and quirky furnishing, this flat was our first and established the unique style of the Yobaba Lounge destinations. Vaguely ethnic, a bit worn around the edges, very bohemian and nourishing to the soul, Yobaba Lounge at Dalmeny Mansions will get you feeling the London vibe from the moment you arrive. Famous Jazz venues, a lively music, pub and restaurant scene, as well as retail opportunities of every imaginable kind are within walking distance, as are grocery store, supermarket, bank, public transport and everything else.

Public transport connections: Our nearest underground station is Tufnell Park on the Northern Line of London's tube system. We are a 7 minute walk from there. The closes international transport connection is the Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International station, with direct connections to/from Paris, Lille Brussels and more. The apartment is less than 1 mile away. Take either the underground, bus or a short taxi ride from this station.

London Heathrow airport is on the Piccadilly Line of London's tube (our underground system). If you have heavy bags, take this line all the way to Kings Cross Station, and the flat is a very short taxi ride from there (less than 1 mile). London City airport is connected to the underground system. Change at Bank station to the Northern Line for Tufnell Park tube station. Gatwick airport is connected to London by train - take a train to/via St Pancras International. From there, see above.

Stanstead and Luton airports are connected to London by train and coach.

Perfect holiday apartment

We had a fantastic seven day's stay in Yobaba Lounge. The apartment is extremely clean and very well equipped with the utmost comfort in mind. Beds most comfortable, great view, plus Internet connection, lots of interesting books, plenty of CDs...
We felt at home within a few hours of being there. All in all, the apartment really was true to the pictures and descriptions online. No disappointments.
The location is fantastic for exploring London. Beside the tube plenty of buses are running into the centre.
Only a few stations from Tufnell Park, St. Pancras International is a good start for a day's out (e.g. Brighton).
Gertrud provided excellent customer service, right from the first contact. She is very professional, friendly and helpful. We got a warm welcome and she also left us a thoughtful "starter-pack" upon our arrival - a nice touch.
I would definitely recommend the apartment to friends and I would return for my next visit.

High quality living

Thanks a lot to Gertrud! Everything in the generous and very nice furnished flat was like we've expected it from seeing the pictures. It was very quiet and if you thinking, that you are only half an hour from Tottenham Court Rd. you have a really high quality of living in a city that big/loud. Near the flat you got everything you need to buy for a nice meal. We liked that, because we didn't want to go out for dinner all the time. So we felt at home and that's our most important quality for our vacations. The flat was tidy and what we liked a lot was the fantastic collection of books to look at. Very nice selection!
What we can recommend for summertime in London: Go and take a bath in the Hampstead Heath Ponds. Via tube and overground it's very near and you will have a nice time in the park. It's huge!
So, if you fancy an artistic and unique environment you must book this flat.

Wonderful experience! Confortable, with everything you need and even more, very homelike. It is actually a bit old but very well decorated and bedrooms really confortable. Attention parents: marvellous playgronud just on the back; my children loved sharing it with the other kids on the block!

Cute. Comfortable. Convenient. Cat smell.

The good: We just came back from a stay at Yobaba Lounge and had a wonderful time. The apartment is a good value considering the prices in London and beats staying in a generic hotel. It is well-situated near the Tufnell Park stop on the Northern Tube line (bit of a hike with a lot of luggage) with plenty of restaurants, bars and grocery stores nearby. The owner could not possibly be any nicer or more helpful. There are dozens of wonderful books, cd's, photos and art on the wall that really make the place feel homey, as well as a lovely garden in the back. The 2 bedrooms are a very good size with comfortable full-size beds and there was endless hot water in the large shower.

The typical: The kitchen, while tiny, had anything you needed. The place is in a rather shabby building which seems well-maintained. I stayed in July - of course it being London there was no air conditioning or screens so it got a little stuffy during the day but cooled down for fine sleeping at night (if you don't mind the flies). There is a washer but no dryer (as expected). I would not stay here in the winter, as the windows were so drafty and MUST remain open. The stubborn-to-flush toilet is inconveniently located in a water closet separate from the shower and sink. There are 50-60 stairs to get up to the apartment.

The bad: The bedroom in the rear of the unit reeked of cat urine. We did not notice this until we had to shut the windows a couple days in; the owner had obviously done as well as she could to air the place out. Overall the place was not as clean as it should have been. The tops of the appliances in the kitchen underneath the counter were dirty and I felt the need to find some cleaning supplies to do a once-over on the whole place. Assume the cleaning charge only covers sweeping, wiping the counters and washing the sheets & towels. The bathroom sink drain was very, very slow. I would not recommend this place to more than 2 adult couples. The 5th bed, should you request it, is, as accurately described an air mattress with nice sheets supplied, but not something anybody would want to sleep on more than 1 night. A child would probably be fine. The club chairs in the living room have been used as cat-scratching posts and need slipcovers. Did not want to sit on them.

I'd love to recommend the roomy, comfortable, eclectic Yobaba Lounge to anybody completely unbothered by cats. If not for the smell we could have could have stayed weeks but as-is 4 nights were enough.

Owner's Response: We must have really upset you. In two years of letting (with almost back to back lettings, and in winter also), we've not had anyone complain about cat smells or dirtiness in the flat. The slow drain, why didn't you simply tell us - it's obviously a little blocked and easily remedied. If a smell was bothering you, let us have a look and find out what was causing it, so that it can be corrected. The apartment is definitely a little worn around the edges, but most definitely clean - though I do not expect my cleaner to rearrange the built-in kitchen units each week. Anyway, I'm glad you did find positives, but am really sorry that you did not give us an opportunity to correct anything with which you were not happy.

Great family rental!

We had a wonderful stay at Yobaba Lounge and would highly recommend it! Very easy to get to apartment from Tufnell Tube stop (10 minute walk) and only a few stops from King's Cross to catch Eurostar for international departures. Easy access to attractions of Central London from here. A convenience store right outside of station is handy for picking up groceries on the way home. Apartment was clean, beds were comfy and warm and there was always hot water for the shower. Gertrud was very helpful fielding all our questions leading up to our arrival and accommodating during our stay - she even unpacked groceries we had delivered! Kitchen was well equipped and TV worked and had cable. Our 3 kids were very comfortable in their room and loved the garden out back. This is a great rental for a family on a budget! We would definitely visit again.

Tufnell Park is in Zone 2 on the Northern Line of London's underground system. It is perfectly located to explore all the obvious attractions: Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Oxford Circus, London's West End with all the museums, theatres and historical venues, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Tower of London and so much more. But also London's colourful markets at Hockston, Brick Lane, Camden Lock, Notting Hill's Portobello, to mention but a few. Hampstead Heath is an oasis of green in the middle of London and is in walking distance. Live Jazz venues nearby include the world famous Jazz Café and Round House in Camden. Equally wonderful however, is the local vegetable market in Holloway where you can find a mind boggling array of exotic foods from North Africa, the Carribean and the Middle East. Restaurants in the area range from workers' café to Morgan M's haute cuisine and a wide range of excellent gourmet pubs in between. Come and experience London's unique multiculturalism!

  • In keeping with much of London, the apartment retains original windows, doors and fittings. This means that they are not double glazed, can be a bit rickety and may let in a little fresh air on occasion, even when closed. We have, however, very efficient heating, curtains and cosy bedding to make your stay nothing but extremely comfortable. Children’s cot (in the bedrooms) or camping bed for one adult in the living room can be provided on request.
