200 YEAR-OLD PROVENCAL DREAM HOUSE WITH STUNNING VIEWS, NEAR BARGEMON

Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday villa in Bargemon - Le Lauron

5 double bedrooms; sleeps 10; large heated pool, new tennis court; amazing views

Le Lauron has been beautifully restored to create a wonderful family home. The South facing house stands in 4 acres of meadows terraces and gardens enjoying superb views of the valley below and the surrounding mountains. The garden is stocked with hundreds of rose, oleander lavender and rosemary bushes; cherries, figs, plums, apples and pears all grow near the house. There is a stream running close to the house into the meadow below which also contains a newly re-surfaced tennis court. There's a boule pitch and table tennis table. The large 14-metre swimming pool is on the same level as, but separate from the house. As it is used as a family home it is not just another anonymous holiday villa but a comfortably furnished home full of paintings and antiques. One of the sitting rooms has a log fire and the house has central heating for cooler months.

For music lovers, there are plenty of summer concerts (usually chamber music or recitals) in nearby churches: Mass with Gregorian plainsong on Sunday mornings at the Abbey de Thoronet; Opera at Aix-en Provence, Orange and Nice; or jazz at Nice and the nearby villages of Seillans and Montferrat. However, past experience shows that despite the best laid plans to make excursions, most of our guests arrive only to find they prefer to stay put at Le Lauron.

There are plenty of poolside sun loungers, two further separate outside dining areas, and a large parasol also available. There is a boule and croquet set, and the house has some tennis and badminton racquets that could certainly be used in an emergency!

The property is cleaned three times a week (incl changeover). Bed linen and bathroom towels are included and changed once a week.

Incredible house - we loved the views and the stuning garden. Thanks so much for letting us stay. The children had a great time in the pool, and we played a lot of tennis on the court. Nice to have tabel tennis, too, when it got too hot! We will definitely come again.

Fantastic relaxation for all

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed on numerous occasions with two to three other families. The property is spacious and has everything you need to make it a relaxing and enjoyable week. The house itself is well laid out, giving everyone space to make their own. It's charm comes from the fact that it is clearly a much loved and well looked after family home. The new kitchen with everything you need, makes eating in very straightforward. I only wish I had as much refrigeration space in the UK. The large supermarkets are easily reached and the local village of Bargemon has the essential bakery, small shops and several restaurants & bars.
The pool is large and well looked after, with plenty of places to sit in the sun and the shade. That with the tennis courts, trampoline, boules and very large garden meant that the children can easily keep themselves entertained and allow the adults to have some peace and quiet of their own. The safety fence around the pool is reassuring when the kids are young.
Over the last few visits we have made some trips out to the Lac (pedalos and giant inflatables), the Gorge du Verdon (kayaking) and a local water park. More importantly, every year, we visit many of the local vineyards to decide which wine we like best. The holiday would not be complete without a few large glasses of wine on the terrace late into the evening.
I would thoroughly recommend this for all ages, there is so much to do if you want it and equally a great place to sit and read your book if that's what you need. It is a really special place.

Shh! Keep this one a secret - a fantastic holiday

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed at Le Lauron on several occasions and always had the most marvellous holidays. The house is spacious and cool in the heat of summer. The bedrooms are well positioned so that you aren't on top of everyone else. The two sitting rooms are comfortable and relaxing. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped for cooking meals for large groups and it's so easy to access the shady terrace to eat. As a couple with young children, knowing the pool is securely fenced is a huge comfort. It's difficult to want to leave Le Lauron to explore, the setting is so peaceful and there are enough things to keep you occupied on-site - boules, tennis, swimming, playing the piano, sampling the delicious local rose - but if you do, there are lots of things to visit. The village has a wonderful, shaded square in which the cafes have set up tables & chairs. The village shop and bakeries/butcher mean easy, local shopping is available too. We have enjoyed wine tastings, the local goat farm and motorcar museum, as well as countless restaurants. Best of all though is a picnic up at Bargeme, a ruined church with views to die for. I would happily come back time after time.

Warmly recommended

  • 5 out of 5
From start to finish we had a very good experience. Owner was very friendly and helpful. The house was all we had joped for and more - very atrractive and with a beautiful location and grounds. We would completely recommend this as a top place for a holiday - whether you are active (swimming, tennis, table tennis!, boule, wandering around the grounds) or just sitting in the sun under trees or around the ppool. Inside there's good-sized bedrooms and a brilliant kitchen.

Highly recommended

  • 5 out of 5
We have stayed in many different holiday homes all over the world and on different budgets. My wife and I rate this the best we've ever been in. Given what's on offer, it's very reasonably priced. The facilities are excellent: top class tennis court, big garden, lovely big swimming pool, boules, table tennis and just lots of nice areas to sit out and relax. But the big difference here is that as well a a greeat outdoors, the inside is also fab. Very conpofortable; three reception rooms. Sky Sports on the TV (big bonus!) - and millins of books. Bedrooms are large and nicely done; there's wifi, and it's just a proper house done properly. Nice couple that look after the house, too, who were very helpful.

A little piece of heaven in the South of France

  • 5 out of 5
We have been returning to this property for a number of years. From little children through to teenagers and the older generation it's a perfect holiday home. The accommodation inside is wonderful and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms and bathrooms are always clean and tidy with plenty of towels. The french couple who look after the property are very friendly and helpful.

The outside areas are lovely with many different places to sit and relax depending on whether it's for lunchtime or evening aperitifs and meals or just to soak up the sunshine. With just a short 10 minute walk to the village it's great for teenagers and young children alike. The village has a huge number of different restaurants catering for all tastes. The village square is a perfect place to sit and people watch with a coffee or a little vin rose!

It really is a home from home and I would thoroughly recommend this stunning property.

Gorgeous place to relax and play

  • 5 out of 5
Thank you for an excellent week in the sun. Beautiful house, very comfortable and spacious - like staying in a top hotel but with no one else getting in the way!

We loved the views ion particular; it is a magical location and we long to go back and have some more long lunches and afternoons by the pool.

One other thing thta other reviewers don't seem to have mentioned: the local village is really nice and pretty and has good restaurants. A nice option if you don't feel like cooking every night.

Thanks for a perfect week.

Car: recommended

Bargemon, 500 metres above sea level, is one of the prettiest villages in the area; it is never crowded or as trippery as villages on or near the coast. Life revolves around the ‘Place’ where, if you sit with your coffee or Pastis, you will get a kaleidoscope of life in Provence. Bargemon has shops for all everyday needs; The nearest town is Draguignan where a bustling and attractive market is held.

Fishing and boating at Lac de St. Cassien (28km), riding, windsurfing and hang-gliding are all within easy reach, as is magnificent walking country. For the really energetic, a Grande Randonee along the base of the Gorge du Verdon (Europe's largest) or, for those not so energetic, a drive along its spectacular rim is highly recommended. St Tropez and the Mediterranean, as well as local golf courses including an excellent championship course at La Motte (15km) are all within 1 hour’s drive. In winter, skiing is possible in the Southern Alps, (Isola 2000: 2 hrs drive, or Greolieres:45 m)

Notes:
The views are simply stunning. The house secluded but not too remote. The village is a 12 minute walk. The accommodation is particularly suitable for families. In addition to the 14m swimming pool which can be enclosed (to comply with AFNOR laws) there is an extra large shallow end, and 2 cots, a high chair, a play pen can be provided. There is a trampoline with a net on one of the terraces. For the adults there is boule, croquet and an impressive library of books. For the musical there is the piano and for the sporty the tennis court and trampoline. Leading off the kitchen is a superb vine and wisteria covered pergola which shelters a large granite table around which meals are usually eaten in fine weather and from which the wonderful scenery can be enjoyed. A beautiful old fig tree outside the house provides further shade and delicious figs in season. Herbs are also grown near the house close to the kitchen.
