About KATERINA PAPADAKI
Pavlos and Katerina Papadaki
SK Place was a dream inspired by the unspoilt beauty of the land handed down by our grandfathers, the traditional architecture of Crete and the youthful vibrancy of our children. This dream became a reality in 2008 when we built Villa Ammos, Villa Anemos and Almyrida Residence.
Pavlos is a qualified architect trained in Milan. His work is based in the town of Chania, where he has run his own design and build practice since 1985. Katerina is a financial accountant (you are an accountant right?) and manager working since 1985 with Pavlos in his architectural-construction studio and her passion is interior design. Stella and Kostandinos are our kids and we named SK Place after them because we wished them to know that they too belong to this land of our forefathers.
Guestbook comments from the owner
We stayed for a week at the Alymra Residence at the beginning of September and the weather was perfect at this time of year: hot but not too hot during the day (around 27-29 C) and warm in the evenings. That said, the breeze can sometimes pick up late in the day so you may still want to pack a warm top. Also worth mentioning is that I saw no signs of any mosquitos.
The villa offers three double bedrooms: two on the first floor, both with en suite bathrooms and access to a wide, shared terrace and one on a lower ground level that has access to a semi-private garden with steps leading up to the pool and main garden. All are very nice and you wouldn't be disappointed to be staying in any of them.
Great pool (we didn't pay for it to be heated but the temperature was fine) and well-maintained garden with a great shaded area to the side of the main house, perfect for sheltering from the sun, reading or dozing off. The views from the garden and pool are superb encompassing mountains, a wide bay and the sea (which was an important reason for me to choose this villa).
It feels very private and there was nothing to disturb or distract from enjoying the villa and it's vista. But you're still an easy five minutes walk down to the local village's beach, it's cafes, bars and restaurants, which makes the location a perfect combination.
A quick recommendation for eating out one night is Parasia Rakadiko in Vamos, about 15 minutes drive inland. It's a family run restaurant that we ate at twice: good authentic home-cooked food and friendly people (and they have live music on Saturdays).
In conversation with the owner, Katerina, I found out that she is an interior designer and her husband an architect and they built and designed all three villas. And for that reason they want you to enjoy and appreciate the place. Katerina was also kind enough to take the time to post back an item we forgot when we departed and all with a very good sense of humour.
I had high expectations of the villa and they were definitely met or exceeded. Rightly so, the other reviews are all strongly positive and I promised Katerina that we would rack our brains to think of something to criticise...and here goes: the bin in the kitchen was a little too small take all the bottles and other waste we went through on a daily basis. Plus, as far as we could tell, there wasn't a place to recycle (maybe it's not a Cretan thing yet?), which coming from London is something we do fairly religiously.
