Cozy, charming lakefront cottage on quiet, spring-fed Lake Chaffee. Relax on the deck, swim, canoe or kayak around the lake to one of the little islands with rope swings, float on a raft, fish, enjoy the changing light, read, nap, go hiking in the nearby state park, or bike on scenic roadways.
Too calm? Head out for some antiquing in Pomfret, Woodstock or Brimfield, or head towards the CT wine trail, Sturbridge Village, nearby University of Connecticut, Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods Casinos, or Thompson International Speedway. Or try a ropes course or zip line at The Adventure Park at Storrs.
If you don't feel like grilling with lake views and eating under the stars, then head out to local, charming cafes.
The cottage itself is fully equipped - simple but comfortable indoor/outdoor living. Two bedrooms, one bath, full kitchen, and a living room and dining area which opens up to a very large deck overlooking the lake. Wi-Fi, cable television, free movies, music, board games, cards, and free US long distance phone calls. Enjoy the outdoor fire pit in the evening.

This little cottage is our idea of a perfect place to get away from the demands of everyday life and spend day after relaxing day just enjoying life! We stay here for two weeks every July, and we never run out of interesting things to see and do in this beautiful and unspoiled part of Connecticut. The best picnic spot and swimming "hole" in the state is just 15 minutes up the road at Lake Mashapaug (in Bigelow Hollow State Park), with deep, crystal clear water and a rocky island to swim out to. The house is small but it has plenty of room for a couple or a family with small children to be very comfortable. The huge plus for us is the great view from the spacious back deck and from the dining room, looking out across the lake. From sunrise to sunset, the view is never exactly the same, with the lighting and the wind patterns changing from minute to minute -- better entertainment than anything on TV. There's a pair of Canada geese that we've enjoyed watching with their babies each year, sometimes right at the water's edge in the back yard. This is one of our favorite rental houses, ever, and Kathy is one of the nicest and most helpful owners we've ever had the pleasure of dealing with! We're already looking forward to coming back to "our" house again next July.
This little 2 bedroom/1 bath cottage is in a perfect location if you are looking to relax and enjoy a gorgeous view of the lake. Though there are cottages and homes all around this lake we felt like we were almost the only ones there. The grandchildren enjoyed the kayaks and swimming every day. We enjoyed the huge and fully "furnished" deck, reading, playing games and just vegging out. Though the place is small it has everything you need. We only had to bring our clothes and some groceries. A new washer/dryer were being installed the day we left so that will make things even better!
I wanted to give a shout out to the owner of this cute cottage. She was extremely accomodating in making us as comfortable as possible and went above and beyond to do so. We as a family like our house cold and the owner purchased an additional air conditioner unit to ensure our comfort. The lake is very peaceful and the collage clean and perferct for a family of 4. Everything you need is at the cottage. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us and would definately recommend as a peaceful getaway.
My family had a great stay at this lakefront cottage. The property provided everything we needed for our short getaway. It was great not to have to pack towels, linens, and kitchen basics for our stay. My husband and son had a great time fishing from the dock and taking the canoe out to the middle of the lake where they caught several larger bass and pickerels. My other son had fun exploring the lake with the kayak. We also enjoyed an excursion to the Mansfield drive-in theater about a half hour away. The owner was accommodating in letting us bring our dog and promptly returned our security deposit the same day we left. Thank you for a great time!
My wife and I had a very peaceful and relaxing time in this lakefront cottage. Everything you would need is provided. We sat on comfortable deck furniture looking at the tremendous view of the lake. I enjoyed exploring with my own kayak, though there is a canoe and kayak provided for use. The owner, Kathy, was helpful and easy to work with and we would definitely consider renting here again.
We spent a wonderful week at this great cottage right on peaceful Lake Chaffee. The house is charming, comfortable, and well stocked. Kathy has a canoe and kayak right there, and every day we were boating on the water, enjoying the relaxation of boating and fishing and discovery of the little islands on the lake. The fishing was outrageous. Our kids (aged 6 and 8) caught fish after fish--bass, crappie, bluegill, and perch. The double set of sliding glass doors in the back enable you to wake up to the beautiful restorative vista of the lake. The large deck with a grill and lots of seating, plus the firepit with seating just down by the lake and the little dock, let us spend beautiful evenings with friends and family, making smores, grilling, having a glass of wine, and getting that last twilight fishing in. A great week. Thank you Kathy!!
