An unusual design led renovation of a substantial 19th century L-shaped farmhouse in the heart of Gascony. Villa du Chêne comprises five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a 14m x 6m saline swimming pool, and is set in its own private grounds of mature oaks in rolling open countryside amidst vines and meadows in the heart of Bas Armagnac, the Gers. Du Chêne consists of one enormous open plan living space of 140m² comprising a semi-professional high tech Italian fitted kitchen, dining room and sitting room. A second sitting room, laundry/utilities room, 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 3 with WCs, 1 bathroom with full disabled access, 2 further separate WCs and an internal covered terrace of 60m² complete the house. The house is fully centrally heated and solar panels supply the hot water. The exceptionally large dimensions of the house (460m²/5000sqft) and the main living area promote open plan living and provide the highest standards of comfort and style. Modernity with a beautiful rural backdrop.

Golf: The area boasts two excellent 18 hole golf courses of contrasting styles - Golf de Guinlet (near Eauze, a 20 minute drive) snakes its way through beautiful, undulating woodland, whilst Golf du Chateau de Pallane winds its way around the spectacular chateau with glorious views towards the Pyrenees and plenty of water to contend with! The latter offers an excellent menu du jour in its attractive courtyard to complete the experience.

Rugby: The villa is situated in the heart of France's rugby country! Local clubs, Stade Montois and Auch, have played in the European Challenge Cup against such famous English clubs as Bath and Saracens, whilst Heineken Cup regulars and giants of French rugby, Agen, Biarritz, Pau and Toulouse all play within striking distance.

Skiing: Villa du Chêne is comfortably situated just one and a half hours drive from some of the best ski resorts in the Pyrenees, making it possible to enjoy day trips into the mountains. Equally many other winter sports are available at these resorts, such as 'raquettes', cross country skiing etc. The Pyrenees are also superb walking country for the summer months.

Besides the gentle beauty of its landscape, the Gers has many interesting and historic attractions. Ancient monastic abbeys (Flarans and La Romieu), Roman remains at Seviac, and endless elegant chateaux tempt the visitor. From bullfighting to duck markets, motor racing to jazz, the local scene offers an eclectic mix of activities. With its world famous gastronomy of foie gras, Armagnac, ducks, geese and garlic, plus golf courses, flying, gliding, Marciac international jazz festival, wine and Armagnac vineyards, waterskiing, walking, and a FAMOUS 3 MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT nearby, there is something for everyone. All in full view of the beautiful Pyrenees.

Notes

  • Weekly rates are for Saturday to Saturday (unless agreed otherwise). Guests are invited to arrive after 4pm and to depart before 10am to allow time for a full house clean. All prices are quoted in Euros. Please note that a 25% non-refundable deposit will be required to confirm your reservation. The remaining 75% must be paid 4 weeks prior to the start of the rental period. A refundable security deposit of €700 is payable at the same time as the 75% balance. This sum will be refunded, less any deductions for damages / breakages / extra cleaning, within 14 days of the end of the rental period. For stays of more than one week a free weekly clean and fresh bed linen and towels are provided.

    * All cleaning, laundry, and electricity costs are included in the prices.
    * Low Season & High Season central heating costs are charged as an extra at cost price.
  • `LONG WEEK-ENDS` may be available except for the Summer Season. Please contact us for details.

    There is a new airline, CITY JET(Air France/KLM), now operating from London City Airport ( Central London) to Pau Airport (45mins away). The flights are on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays making it ideal for a `Weekend Getaway`. Both airports are small, efficient and very modern. It is the most civilised way to travel to us from London and the airline provides an excellent service at a reasonable cost with no hidden `extras`.

  • The design, dimensions, and very high quality of the materials used make these bathrooms an outstanding feature of the house. Bathrooms 2 & 3 have unique 'walkthrough' showers extending to 3m in length. Bathroom 4 is on the ground floor and conforms to disabled access requirements. All bathrooms are fully tiled in natural Italian stone, and are equipped with an air extraction system, windows for fresh air, large fixed shower heads, heated towel rails, mirrors and spotlighting, and wall mounted WCs. For your comfort and safety the bath and shower tap temperatures are thermostatically controlled.

  • All the bedrooms are large doubles. Bedrooms 1 and 2 have large sliding glass doors opening onto a private spotlit balcony overlooking the terrace and gardens. Bedrooms 3, 4 and 5 overlook the gardens and parkland. All bedrooms are decorated in gentle natural shades in ecological paints. They are simply furnished with brand new ultra comfortable beds, solid chestnut bedside tables and an innovative hanging and open shelving system. Flooring throughout the first floor is in a new technology compressed bamboo. The rooms are unusually spacious, airy and uncluttered. Emphasis has been given to the provision of high quality Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases. Allergy free bedding is available on request.

Notes: The house was designed specifically for holidays and is used exclusively for this purpose. The kitchen is equipped with a stainless steel Italian 6 ring cooker with double oven and warming drawers and there is an American fridge freezer. The washing machine and tumble drier are not in the kitchen but in a separate laundry room. Beyond the main open plan living space a corridor leads to a second living room with an open fireplace and large 42' HD TV screen. Here there are a further two large sofas, one of which converts into a sofa bed. Next door is Bathroom 4, which conforms to disabled access requirements, a further separate WC, and opposite is the laundry/utilities room. Please note that internet access is a high speed satellite `Astra2connect` system. The system is not unlimited access. When available, vegetables from the organic vegetable garden are given to guests free of charge. These include tomatoes, courgettes, peppers,chillies, and aubergines.

Beautiful Farmhouse

My husband and I were getting married in the Gers and managed to find this beautiful farm house to let for the week preceding our wedding.It is an ideal space for a big group as there is lots of entertainment space both inside and out and one does certainly not feel as if the bedrooms and bathrooms are on top of each other.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped with everything one could possibly imagine. The house is immaculately maintained and was very clean on arrival. The beds are wonderfully comfortable.
An added bonus is having access to Doug's cellar should one want to sample the finest local wines.
The only things which we weren't to happy about were poor wifi/internet access and thought it would have been worthwhile having a cleaner come midweek possibly to clean bathrooms and change towels.
Overall, it was a fantastic place to go on holiday. The owner's provided excellent customer service with information on the local area and beyond. They were very helpful and made a huge effort to make us feel welcome. I would definately recommend this property.

One week was not enough.

Sadly, we only spent one week at Villa du Chene ....but what a lovely week that was.
Nestled in lush and peaceful countryside with far reaching views Villa du Chene is not isolated and is perfectly situated to explore Gascony.
The house is set some distance from the quietest of country lanes and surrounded by lawn. The pool sparkles in the sunshine and the large shallow end is designed for the very young (and not so young) to safely play and wallow. The house is pristine, contemporary, fabulously comfortable and cool in the summer heat. A covered dining area with hot plate BBQ is perfect for eating in the shade or for little ones to play safely in the heat of the day. The owners have provided everything you could possibly need. It is ideal for families, extended families, the very young and the not so able. Our children are quite grown up but I would have loved to have stayed there when they were little, knowing there are safe spaces to play and all the equipment (cots etc.) that you might need. Good supermarkets are within easy reach for local delicacies and daily essentials.
At a discreet distance the owners are only there if you need them (but they are really, really nice) and are determined to establish Villa du Chene as one of the most luxurious and desirable properties in Gascony. We will return.

Gorgeous Gascon Gite

I have stayed at Villa du Chene a couple of times and will keep returning - the very friendly and helpful host family help create a happy atmosphere and the gite offers all mod cons and creature comforts. Stunning countryside and near all the main Gascon attractions such as Marciac jazz and Madiran wine tasting.

OUR STAY AT THE WONDERFUL

From the very first day we were made to feel at home and treated as a member of the family from the villa owners (Hattie and Douglas). The location is and layout of the villa are excellent with many facilites available close to the villa. The villa was extremely clean and well maintained. I would definately recommend this villa to all our family and friends. In fact we loved the stay so much that we have bought a property very close by!

THE WONDERFUL VILLA DU CHENE

Everything was perfect from start to finish. We were welcomed by the owners as though we were part of their family and we were taken care of the same. The villa was extremely well maintained, to the highest of standards and very clean. The customer service was excellent, beyond our expectations. We would recommend anyone to stay at Villa du Chene.
