What we can offer our guests is close proximity to the town of Mt. Shasta and a very private, quiet setting. We are about .9 miles to town but live in the forest. Guests have killer views out of each window and a private deck for relaxation.
The loft has about 800 sq. ft. and the living room, dining room, bedroom and kitchen are all open with no walls between them. Guests have their own private carport to keep from the snow and sun.
There is a full kitchen with all conveniences except a dishwasher.
There is a queen size bed and a high quality pull out sofa-bed. Our space can accommodate 4 people.
We are pet-dander free and this is the reason we do not allow pets. Read our reviews and you will be convinced that the Garden Loft is the place for you.
We have two mountain bikes to borrow as well as two pairs of snowshoes. We have snow sleds and luges as well.
Sandy and I moved here 34 years ago from the Bay Area because of our love of backpacking. No Regrets! We raised our family here. Both Sandy and I are retired teachers. Sandy elem. school and me, high school. We love outdoor activities as well as jewelry making, playing piano, gardening, knitting, swimming, exercising, hiking, wood working and sailing.

The garden loft is a re-model of the upstairs of our wood shop. We just completed the re-model and because of our love of this area, we wanted to share our community with others.
Our visitors will enjoy the privacy and solitude as well as the close proximity to town, skiing, and many other outdoor activities that Mt. Shasta is known for. Park in the carport that is steps from the front door of the loft. Enjoy the 1 acre of flowers during the Spring, Summer and Fall. How about a two person shower with two shower heads!! Total relaxation awaits you here.
We had a great time staying at the Garden Loft over President's Day Weekend. John was a gracious host, full of helpful information and very accommodating for our schedule. The loft is extremely cozy, and very accessible to hiking and other fun Shasta activities. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you might need for home-cooking. We especially liked stargazing from the deck and looking at the mountain from the couch. We took John's recommendation to have dinner at Cafe Maddalena in Dunsmuir (a 15 minute drive), which may have been the greatest meal of all time. We will definitely be back!!
The place is so clean and comfortable. We felt so safe to have the owner actually living so close. They are so kind and email response were so quick. We enjoyed the nice view of Mount Shasta. Big window in the bedroom was a nice surprise too. We placed all gems beside the window all nights to purify with full moon. We are planning to visit again to enjoy their beautiful garden this summer.
We enjoyed an amazing weekend in this comfortable loft. It is beautifully arranged and decorated, well stocked, very clean, has amazing views, and it felt like home. John was friendly and helpful answering any questions we had about the area. We were able to take some nice walks from the property and had a great day climbing to Castle Crags. Try the Fall River Mills beer at the Wayside Station. A great chaser to any hike. Hoping we can come back and do some more exploring soon.
We needed to get away from the Bay Area, and hoped for snow in the midst of drought at Ms. Shasta; no snow! BUT, this wonderful large loft apartment with everything a family of 4 or two couples could ask for, made up for no snow; we got directions to ice skating and sledding, found trails through the owner's good auspices, and felt very much at home, as if we lived there for a long time. John is now more a friend after the second visit, and was welcoming to our own friends who visited us there. The place is a perfect version of private and secluded with someone hiding just far away to not be noticed; but if you call or e mail, 5 minutes later John shows up with a humidifier or extension cord, and is somehow a host without any intrusion. This location is perfect for the mountains and lakes of California, 3 hours from SF, and we'll be coming back for a break for years to come. K
We spent much too short a time celebrating a birthday and New Year at the garden loft. John and Sandy were in every way hospitable, knowledgeable, and thoughtful hosts. John has constructed the loft above his workshop with views to the beautiful garden and the majestic mountains that are the attraction to the area. They have thought out so many ways to make the unit comfortable and memorable, such as the covered parking (handy when bringing in groceries and luggage in the snow that fell shortly after we arrived), comfortable bedding with large windows looking out to the woods we were encouraged to explore, all the items anyone would need to prepare meals and entertain themselves indoors, and decorated in such a way as to perfectly fit in with the lovely setting of the property.
The loft is close enough to town to walk, well situated (with a wealth of information provided in the unit and by Sandy and John) to all the area has to offer, and posses a quiet sense of serenity compatible with the mountains accessible all around. The deck was somewhat sadly too cold to enjoy fully with an inch of snow but we look forward to returning to further explore this largely undiscovered part of California and imagine having morning coffee and dinners outside on it.
Once again, the warmth of our hosts in terms of orienting us and providing suggestions unobtrusively, helping with an extra box for our found treasures, and even a small unexpected birthday gift delivered to our door made our visit one to remember and we anticipate repeated visits to hopefully in the near future.
This loft sits on a beautiful piece of property with views of Mt. Shasta, trees and the main house's garden. It was very well-equipped, clean and cozy. The owner was very gracious and helpful - he loaded the feeder on the deck for us so we could do a little birding. While the loft is in a forest setting, it is very close to downtown Mt. Shasta. Without hesitation we would recommend this rental and wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Sandy and I propagate Shasta Lilies and we probably have the largest concentration (no. per acre) of Shasta Lilies in California and Oregon. When they bloom the fragrance rivals any flower from Hawaii. One bloom in a room will permeate an entire home.
