About The Owner

My husband and I both grew up in Western North Carolina. We love these mountains we call home.

.

We are avid outdoor enthusiasts!!

Most of the time we are either traveling up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway or on one of the winding country roads on our road bikes or hitting the thousands of acres of trails on our mountain bikes.

We also enjoy taking in one of our other favorite activities...fishing. Whether we are wading in with our fly rods on one of our many pristine mountain streams or floating down one of the many awesome rivers we are never disappointed.

On our farm we have a small herd of Scottish Highland Cattle as well as a few horses and of course our dogs. We love our area and our farm so much that we felt like we should share it with others who would like to experience a taste of what we live with and are blessed with everyday!!

What makes this barn unique

When staying on our farm you will enjoy a unique relaxing setting where you will feel far away even though you are only minutes away from activities, exceptional dining and of course all the mountains have to offer.

There is so much to do here. As other guests have stated...air hockey, pool table, game tables, chalkboard, television and dvd, pigs, chickens and cows. There was so so much space to let the kids spread out. It was incredible. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of some minor cleanliness issues in the kitchen. I did text with the owner after our stay about my "issues" and she was sincerely apologetic. I do believe they were isolated incidences and I plan to return again this year.

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time! My family lives far away from each other so we really cherish times we do get to spend with one another. The barn was beautiful! It had everything we needed to cook dinner and breakfast together, was comfy, and had enough to keep you entertained for days. My favorite part was all the farm animals! The family was so nice and their son introduced us to the animals. My 16 month nephew just had a blast seeing the baby pigs, chickens, horses and 700 pound pigs that they let us feed apples to! Now he can't stop saying "apple!" "pig!" Overall, it was such an amazing experience and I would highly recommend it!

Cyclists Nirvana

  • 5 of 5

I was part of a group of friends on a cycling vacation in western NC. The Red Barn was absolutely the perfect place to stay. The owners, who are also avid cyclists, were very helpful in planning routes and suggesting places to check out, and we could ride right from the property. The barn was clean and comfortable, and the chickens that live on the farm greeted us each morning. Even though we didn't have any along with us, this would be a great place for kids. Lots of room for them to roam. The owners couldn't have been nicer.

Absolutely perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

I cannot think of one negative thing to say about this barn! It was spacious, clean, comfortable, & beautiful! Great location too! The 9 of us never felt crowded at all. The older kids loved the air hockey & pool table. My youngest loved the huge chalkboard! The owners were very friendly & helpful on the phone. We hope to return there again!

Good

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was great - although we spent very little time at the Red Barn as we were out exploring the surrounding areas. Having the pool table and air hockey made for great evening family entertainment. The inside is beautifully finished and stays surprisingly warm. The only reasons I did not rate it as excellent:

1. The outside of the Red Barn had some litter strewn about - I think the previous guests must have done fireworks and never cleaned up. One of the bowls and spoons from the cabin was left at the fence of the pasture - it looked like it had been there for some time. We also found a few things presumably left behind inside the cabin on the floor- kids sunglasses and socks, If we walked around inside without shoes, our socks quickly became filthy - so I don't feel it was as cleaned up as it could have been. But make no mistake, it did not "look" or "feel" dirty, just minor issues causing me to rate it as good vs excellent

2. There is a foos ball table but it is backwards and does not work properly. The air hockey electronic score keeper did not work (had to trigger it maually which is really no big deal), I was surprised to find there were no kid size pool sticks or a bridge (especially handy for kids if they have to use adult size pool sticks). The video/DVD collection are quite old. Not a big deal as we watched tv one time for about 30 minutes. Again none of this is a major issue but did keep me from giving it an excellent review.

3. This is a bit odd to say, but I had no idea the barn was so close to the main house. It is literally right next door. The family who owns it is very nice and welcoming and since thery are from the area originally they had great suggestions on things to do and places to eat. But during our stay they, like any other family on a weekend might, were doing some work outdoors in the pasture and the driveway and so we felt a little like we were in their space. They did not make us feel this way at all - I cannot stress enough how friendly they family was. But it felt a little strange to me. It is just something I wish I had known ahead of time - I still would have rented the Red Barn and still would have had a nice visit, but would not have felt like we were invading someone else's space as much as I do now since I would have been prepared to be in the middle of their space (which again was my issue, not the owners).

Overall a great experience and would recommend to others with the information above to set expectations.
