Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Santiago-Pontones - Casa del Agua
Lovely three bedroom cottage in a stunning rural setting - fantastic hiking
Huelga Utrera is a mountain hamlet lost in time. Located in heart of the National Park of Las Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas - Spain's largest protected aread. Sitting on the confluence of the Segura and Madera rivers at 1000m altitude, it is surrounded by stunning mountains and dense forest.
The house has been fully restored in traditional style, it's spacious, child friendly, has excellent views and a large patio and garden leading on to the orchards of the hamlet. These are visited nightly by deer and wild boar.
Otters patrol the river next to the house and you are guaranteed to see large birds of prey overhead.
Water is the theme of the area. The 'acequia' that irrigates the orchards, gurgles past the front door of the house.
There is excellent swimming and fishing within a stone's throw of the house and the nearby lake provides opportunity for other water activities.
This is one of Spain last truly unspoilt mountain areas
Water, water everywhere: The river Segura tumbles down the mountain borders the village as it reaches the valley floor. A swim here is to say the least invigorating as the water is chilly all year round. Just a few hundred yeard's walk from the village along a shady track, you'll come to the 'pools' of Río Madera. This is a delicious spot for an afternoon swim surrounded by towering mountains as you watch the eagles and vultures soar overhead.
Just a short drive down the valley, you'll arrive at the Anchuricas reservoir - a small beach next to the church provides a great spot for a picnic and swim or kayak ride.
There is fly-fishing for the wild trout in the river segura and the lake is stocked with rainbow trout.
A hiker's paradise: There are over 700km of marked trails in the surrounding mountain range. From the intimidating 72km GR-147, that will take you from peak to peak across the park, to far more relaxed routes. From the font door there is a wonderful marked train that takes you up above the village along the river canyon to the Cave of Water. A stunning natural cave where a small tributary of the Segura river springs. Abandoned orchards along the route, provide a healthy snack en route. We'll provide you with details of all the best walks in the area and you'll find plenty of guides in the house.
