About Laetitia & Roy Evans

We bought our traditional little piece of heaven that is Le Peyruzel in 2004. It had been a dream of ours for many years to some day live in France. We, Roy and I (Letitia) had visited La Belle France many times with our children while they were growing up. Surprisingly we had never stayed in the Perigord Noir. Usually heading for the Med or the Atlantic coast from our home in Scotland. We did occasionally stay inland and we loved the beauty of the French countryside. The diversity of the different departments was truly breathtaking. In 2004 I had retired from the NHS in Scotland and when friends asked if we would join them on a trip to the Lot in France, we really didn't need too much persuasion! Roy and I talked about our life long ambition to 'live the dream' and decided it was finally time, if we were serious, to start looking for somewhere we could call home in France. We arranged many 'appointments to view' properties within a couple of hours drive from Toulouse Airport and so began the most exciting and challenging time of our lives.

Laetitia & Roy Evans purchased this cottage in 2004

A wonderful holiday in a fantastic location !

  • 5 out of 5
Without doubt a holiday we will always remember for many varied reasons!-all of which are good.
A cottage that offered all the amenities and comfort we needed but with the added attraction of a sitting room we didn't want to leave.
A quite beautiful private pool area with seating under the wooden abri for eight people, wi-fi music facility and a wine/beer fridge for our exclusive usage -and offering the most stunning views you could imagine over the valley towards Daglan and beyond- you have to see this to believe it !
In addition Roy & Letitia, the owners, could not have been more helpful offering insight into the local area and restaurants etc which helped save us so much time and resulted in some wonderful meals and days out- so many beautiful little villages to see, markets to visit and local cuisine to try-not enough time in a week so two weeks on order for our next visit !-Letitia even booked us some restaurants and Roy let us try his wine collection during a tour of the converted barn next door where they live - over and above the call of duty there !
The area offers plenty to do for all ages, whether that be simply visiting the many surrounding villages and enjoying the sights or perhaps a more energetic time cycling, canoeing , climbing or tennis is required-all these options are available within a 15 minute drive of the property.
Certainly we were never bored although some days lying by the pool looking over the valley were good enough for us !
The property was spotless, well maintained and had everything we needed - we would recommend this property and the owners to anyone looking for a top class holiday in the Dordogne and who requires the best view you could possible imagine while lying on a luxurious sun bed sipping a nice glass of wine....!

Lovely location overlooking beautiful Dordogne country side scenery. Letitia and Roy Evans showed us warm and caring hospitality, very helpful with and need or question we had. We had a wonderful time at Le Peyruzel and the entire Dordogne region.

Perfect countryside getaway!

  • 5 out of 5
September '14. This was a great peaceful getaway with stunning views. The cottage had amble room yet still had a very nice cozy feel. The living room with 400 year old exposed wood beam ceilings and amazing views was a perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine of an evening. The nicely equipped kitchen also offers a very picturesque views while cooking. Our favorite spot was the garden and pool area. Roy is an excellent gardener, and has worked very hard to ensure a tranquil and relaxing time in the garden and pool area. The pool overlooks a beautiful valley and it was a great spot for an afternoon nap in the sun.
The best part of our time at the cottage was Roy & Laetitia. They really made us feel at home. Upon arrival, Laetitia offered us coffee, tea & milk because we had forgotten to bring our own. Like others have said, they maintain a low profile during your stay but also make themselves available for any local restaurant recommendations or sites to see in the area. We were even lucky enough to sit in on Roy playing the guitar and singing one night and it turned out to be our favorite night of the stay. Their hospitality simply cannot be beat. We would return just to see them again.
When we return to France we will definitely be staying here again. We have recommended it to several of our friends that were amazed by the pictures we took during our stay. The cottage a nice break from all of the noise of Paris and was the highlight of our honeymoon.

Quiet and comfortable property (Part 2)

  • 5 out of 5
Just an addition to previous posts on some recommendations.. Things to do and see. Our schedule usually involved a morning activity followed by a few hours at the pool and then to one of the town mentioned above in the evening. We canoed the Dordogne River on two of the days. There are multiple places that do this but we opted for the company based in the nearby town of Cenac as it was convenient. We just booked the day in advance. We would also recommend spending a few hours at Le Chateau de Castelenaud but get there before 10:00am to beat the crowds. The other activity that we all really enjoyed was the ‘Indian Forest’ which is a tree top obstacle course and zip lines with courses of varying degrees of difficulty for kids from six to sixty!. This was really good value and you could easily spend 4 – 5 hours here. It is located about 4 miles from Sarlat on the road to Souillac.
Finally ....Proof of the pudding. We had a great week here and when we return to the Dordogne in the future would book this cottage again.

Comfortable and quiet property in a great location

  • 5 out of 5
August 2014. Once I had booked this property, I had apprehensions on whether or not it would be too remote or would be too noisy from the road that passes the front door. I can tell you I was wrong on both counts. I will give my views here on the property / location/ things to see and do based on a family of four (kids aged 13 &15).
The cottage was perfect for what we required. I would describe it as both rustic and comfortable with the stone fireplace and wooden beams. It had all the modern conveniences that are required including wifi! The kids really enjoyed the split level bedroom with stone walls and en-suite bathroom. The living room is both spacious and comfortable with great views over the roof tops into the valley below. The kitchen is well equipped and more than adequate for holiday culinary needs. The real beauty of this property is the swimming pool and abri. Is receives sun from dawn to dusk and gives uninterrupted views of the forest and fields of the Ceou Valley below. We just loved coming back here in the afternoon to chill out after a morning activity or outing.
The road that passes by the cottage see’s about a six cars and one tractor day! and we had no problems what so ever with road traffic noise. In fact we slept like logs in the comfortable beds.
As for the landlords Letitia and Roy, they live in an adjoining property. They are a great couple, both friendly and interesting that really want you to have great time and enjoy your stay. They retain a low profile presence in the background but are always available to answer questions and give recommendations when asked and good company over a glass of wine or two as well!!.
The location, Ley Peyruzel is a small cluster of about 15 houses and is a real French village that give a true feel for how the Perigordian people both live and work. The situation is ideal for hitting the medieval villages of Beynac, La Roque, Dome and Castelnaud. These towns are all within a 15 minute drive. The nearest village is Daglan, which is about 2 miles away and also very pretty and I would recommend hitting the Sunday morning street market to kick start your holiday and get the feel for lifestyle and people of the area. The larger town of Sarlat is about 30 mins drive. While the old town is pretty and worth seeing, it is also very busy and touristy. We preferred the more tranquil atmosphere of the other towns listed above.

Our charming, traditional Perigordian cottage of honey coloured stone is set in the heart of the area known locally as the Golden Triangle. France's most sought after holiday destination. Our lovingly restored

cottage sits directly opposite the impressive, 13th Century Château du Peyruzel. Listed as a 'Monument Historique'.

Le Peyruzel is perched high on the hills above the pretty village of Daglan where there is a Post Office, Boulangerie, Boucherie and a small super-market. In the award winning restaurant, Le Petit Paris, enjoy a gastronomic feast and sample the superb Bordeaux and Bergerac wines of the region. Cool off in the in the rock pools of the River Coeu which runs through the village or take a short drive to the banks of the Dordogne where you can try canoeing or enjoy a leisurely sail and marvel at the historic Chateaux of Castelnaud and Beynac sitting majestically above the riverbank.

Our newly installed swimming pool with its powerful jet pump is fantastic for cooling off in the summer heat. The traditional 'abri de jardin' is a delightful spot to relax, read a book, have a glass of wine by the pool or simply enjoy the amazing views across the valley.
