About Louise Ball

I was born and brought up in landlocked rural Derbyshire and now we are living in central Bath we have a desire to have a getaway in the rolling countryside within a stones throw of the beach!

Louise Ball purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Louise Ball chose Lynton

We've had Rockleigh longer than any other house we've ever owned - it ticks all the right boxes for us. It's remote enough to leave behind our busy working lives but close enough to so many exciting things in North Devon that we are never bored. Busy days and cosy nights abound!

What makes this cottage unique

After a day on the beach or a walk on the moor, its the perfect cottage to come home to, whether it's for a glass of red wine curled up on the sofa in the winter, or an early evening bbq in the little back yard in the summer - it's relaxing to say the least!

Perfect cottage in a perfect quaint village..

  • 5 out of 5
We loved our stay at this lovely cosy cottage from beginning to end. We visited with 2 young children and a dog and it was perfect for each and everyone of us. Kids loved their bunk room and the dog loved his evenings curled up alongside the warm, wood burning stove in the lounge...location is superb - 1 minute walk from the village pub which serves fantastic food and opposite the village post office which the kids loved going to for our daily necessities! Overall a great trip and will definitely return...

Beautiful cottage in the perfect location.

  • 5 out of 5
My husband, I and our two young children had a fantastic week in Rockeigh which is a wonderfully charming, cosy, cottage full of character. Equipped with everything you could possibily need, including a special toasting rack for extra special toast on the Rayburn (!), modern bathrooms, a country kitchen and wood burning stove, Rockleigh allows you to relax and enjoy your holiday. The children loved having their own bedrooms, all of which were light and tastefully decorated and the comfy beds made for a good nights sleep for all.

Parracombe has a village shop, right opposite Rockleigh, a wonderful gastro pub and is a beautiful village from which there are plenty of walks if you are so inclined. For children an excellent playpark and tennis court - up the hill! The weather wasn't so kind to us, but Rockleigh is ideally situated to explore the beaches of North Devon as well as Exmoor. There are plenty of things to do whatever the weather, all within a few miles of Parracombe.

The owners were charming and ensured that everything was perfect for our arrival and they have a local lady on hand to sort out any problems just incase!

I would recommend Rockleigh to couples and families alike, it a relaxing place to enjoy North Devon and all that it offers.

Had a great time.

  • 4 out of 5
Very nice cottage in a secluded village with one shop/post office and a pub - rural idyll! Easy to get to the north west beaches and the North Devon towns of Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth which are all a must see! Very good walking paths close by. The cottage was very cosy and as the weather this August has been so cold we even lit the wood burning stove in the lounge. The Rayburn oven took a bit of getting used to but was really efficient when we had familiarised ourselves with it. The small patio area could have been better maintained but everything else was A1.

relaxing rural cottage

  • 4 out of 5
We came here with teenage/adult children and found it a great place to stay.
A relaxing cottage with good facilities and a good base for exploring the area. We went for walks, hired bikes and went surfing then returned to the log fire and good meals cooked on the range cooker.
The owner was very accomodating and efficient

Beautifully maintained cottage perfect Exmoor base

  • 5 out of 5
This is a lovely cottage, deceptively larger inside than it looks and it provided perfect accomodation for a family of four, though would easily accomodate five also. Location is perfect for making day trips to Exmoor and North Devon coast, we used it as a base for a short walking holiday and the immediate area provides hugely diverse opportunities in terms of moorland, river valleys, deserted beaches etc.

A word of praise for the pub in the village too (The Fox and Goose) - we received a very friendly welcome and the food (and cider!) was excellent - one of our family has a number of food intolerances that the staff were able to cater flexibly for without any fuss or difficulty.

Overall, thoroughly recommended for a family break, despite our stay being during the school holidays (and coinciding with some excellent weather!) it was surprising how remote and "away from it all" parts of North Devon still feel.
