Guestbook comments from the manager

Erica,

We would like to thank you so much for providing the wonderful itineraries in your Borgo la Chiusa booklet. We followed 3 of the "trips" and had a truly fabulous time both driving thru the Tuscan hills and visiting uncrowded sites. And we didn't get lost even once!

We intended on completing the Val di Merse, Montagnola, and Chianti itineraries but we had such a great time everywhere that we only finished parts of Val di Merse and Montagnola and never made it to Chianti!

We spent several hours each at San Galgano, Radiacondoli, Casole d'Elsa, and Pieva Di Penina because they were so beautiful and interesting. There were other places we planned to visit, but we ran out of time, so it just means we have more to come back for!

By the way, the gardens at Centinale were closed for renovation--something else to see when we return. We are definitely slow travelers to Italy and share your love of the beautiful sights and peaceful tranquility Tuscany has to offer.

We especially appreciated Casole d'Elsa because they made it so easy to navigate the scooter up to the hilltop by providing elevators. That was an unexpected treat!

We also again want to thank you and Francesca for helping us navigate our way to Siena--we followed the instructions and for the first time we didn't get lost! We even went back there one more time before leaving Italy!

We would be remiss also If we didn't offer thanks for the wonderful restaurant suggestions. We ate in a bunch of them and found all to be wonderful!

Our two weeks in Tuscany were everything we hoped for and more, and we will be sure to recommend you to any of our friends who are thinking of a Tuscan holiday. Thank you so much.

Arriverderci and Mille Grazie!

Beautiful Tuscan Home

  • 5 of 5

By every account my family and I were blown away with how wonderful and perfect everything was at Borgo La Chiusa. The villa was very easy to book and Francesca and Alessandro were very so accommodating and helpful throughout our stay. A little difficult to find initially, the villa is very close to Siena and other local sites. I strongly recommend this property to couples or families looking for an authentic Tuscan experience. My family and can't wait to go back.

A Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for our family of four to use as a respite and home base during our stay in Italy. It was very clean and had updated amenities and finishes. We traveled into Sienna several times, and by car this was fairly quick and easy. We also took trips to Florence (we recommend taking the bus), neighboring medieval towns and a trip to the beach as well. Our hosts were very helpful and gracious. They answered all of our questions, gave us advice on places to eat, and helped provide directions to out-of-the-way destinations that we wished to see.

We loved sitting outside on the well furnished patio, and the outdoor ping-pong table was a huge hit with the entire family! We did a lot of cooking at the villa because with two young children it was nice to come home for dinner after a long day sightseeing. The kitchen was small but well equipped, and had everything we needed including a dishwasher. There is a co-op grocery store easily accessible just a few minutes by car, and this came in handy.

We didn't get to use the pool because it wasn't quite warm enough, but it looks very inviting. Maybe next time we return it will be during the summer! We do a lot of traveling, and can say that this was a particularly lovely place and we look forward to returning in the future.

Wonderful in all ways...

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a wonderful week in Tuscany with this house as our home base. The house is wonderful and the pictures show its virtues very well. Even better is the hospitality of the agency representing the house. We arrived to fresh pastries and beverages and a through guides book to the uniques and special restaurants and stores in the surrounding towns. I would highly recommend this house and more so this agency.

Serene Setting, Superb Service

  • 5 of 5

Our one-week stay at Borgo La Chiusa exceeded our hopes for a "bucket list" stay in Tuscany. Another couple and we shared the Porcilaia unit and found it the perfect size and configuration. The interior living space was impeccabely clean and comfortable for the few evenings we rested at home. The grounds were meticulously kept, and the pool a lovely place to enjoy the autumn sun. (Alas, it closed in the middle of our visit.) The sitting area outside our apartment was quiet and simply appointed -- a great spot for a glass of wine and a good book or chat. Others were in residence next door, but we rarely saw or heard them. While we enjoyed day trips to Siena and other hill towns, one of our highlights was morning and evening walks in the neighborhood. It was a short tree-lined walk past rolling fields and grazing sheep to a local ancient abbey whose bell we heard distantly chiming the hours. A family-owned vineyard was the reward at the end of a longer amble. There was one extraordinary local restaurant and a well-stocked grocery store an easy drive away. A local cooking class was memorable. A few evenings we cooked simple meals with local ingredients from the Coop or the artisanal shops in Siena. Aside from the glorious vista and classic Tuscan accomodations, kudos go to Francesca, the attentive, kind, helpful manager. She went far beyond the call of duty in helping us negotiate a flat tire issue and in scanning and emailing some documents we'd left behind. She was an advocate with a tour driver and a cheerful presence whenever needed. We hope to return with our grown children one day -- it was a dreamy vacation!

Words cannot express how happy we were here.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here. Not only were the accommodations beautiful, but the owners were incredibly helpful to us. They were so kind and they helped us in all our travel details - Not to mention that Mom is is fabulous cook! Be sure to book at least one of her meals. We loved this family so much that we invited their children to visit us in FL. And they came for a great visit. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! The setting is perfect, the villa is very lovely and the location couldn't be better for seeing Tuscany.

La Chiusa is a small hamlet just outside Siena, the best preserved medieval town of Italy, whose community retains its ancient traditions. A perfect location to relax and visit art cities like Florence, San Gimignano, Pienza, Volterra, the leaning tower of Pisa. Tuscany is the land of Art and Culture, home to Leonardo, Galileo, Michelangelo whose homes, museums and masterpieces you'll be able to admire on a day trip from Borgo Vitignano. Il Palio di Siena, a thrilling traditional horserace, takes place in the centre of Siena every year in July and August. Tuscany is also famous for its red wines. On a day trip you can visit Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Scansano and why not Bolgheri. For those of you who love unspoilt nature, Maremma is but an hour away. The gorgeous Mediterranean coast is only 70 km away, with Castiglione della Pescaia, Punta Ala, Follonica, La Carbonaia. Perugia in Umbria is only 110 kms away.
