2 BED COTTAGE IN IDYLLIC COTSWOLD VALLEY OF CHALFORD

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Stroud - The Cottage

Grade II listed self-catering rental suitable for families, walkers or lovers!

The ground floor of the East Wing in a very special Grade II listed, holiday let in the beautiful Cotswold village of Chalford. Just a short drive away is the 'Capital of the Cotswolds' Cirencester, Painswick, Cheltenham, Stroud, the antiques center of Tetbury, the World Heritage City of Bath, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stonehenge, Cardiff, The Forest of Dean and much more. The recently refurbished accommodation comprises a small porch, opening into a modern kitchen/living area complete with wood burner. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom sleeping a maximum of 6 with 1 double, 1 twin and an overflow double sofa bed in the living room area. The property benefits from a small private terrace and garden. The cottage annex forms part of a large listed property, once occupied by the owner of one of the local mills. The cottage part of the house is believed to be about 400 years old in contrast to the more 'modern' Georgian West Wing of the house added around 1820 by the mill owner. Note: Also lovely 2 bed/2 bath Loft available.

Chalford - the Alpine Village of the Cotswolds: Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds. Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village due to its deep, well-wooded valleys. A walkers paradise with beauty around every corner.

Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many beautiful old mills dotted through the valley, and the old Thames and Severn Canal running along the Valley bottom. Many houses you still can't drive to and the community of Chalford has even re-established use of donkey for grocery deliveries!

The Cotswolds : The Cotswolds is 'quintessentially English' and still unspoiled. From Chalford and beyond you can enjoy the honey-coloured stone of the area, the dry-stone walls, the beautiful manor houses and quaint cottages both on and off the tourist trail.

Nearby are a myriad of activities from lazing around close to home, walking the Cotwold Way or the Five Valleys, enjoying the sights of places including Bath, Cirencester, Stow-on-the-wold or Bibury, playing golf, visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park, Prinknash Abbey or frolicking in The Cotswold Water Park ....

Please note: There is also a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft available to rent either with the Cottage or separately. Check out listing # 1056073. And we also offer B&B in the beautiful Georgian-fronted main house.

About Anna Simson

My husband and I fell in love with our beautiful Grade II listed home in the Cotswolds. We bought it in 2005 and have been lovingly refurbishing it since along with occasional help (and hindrance) from our young daughter, Freya, and our playful chocolate Labrador, Revel.

Anna Simson purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Anna Simson chose Stroud

We already knew the village of Chalford - the Alpine Village as it is often known - and loved the strong community feel, the beautiful valley and walks plus being so accessible from across the country.

What makes this cottage unique

Where to start? There are so many things to do from staying nearby and enjoying the walks, the river, the fresh air and beautiful Cotswold villages to travelling a little further and seeing the regency town of Bath or the spires of Oxford or the race courses, the polo, the wildlife park, playing golf, fishing ..... Even a day-trip to London is possible with a 1.25 hour train journey into Paddington.

Chalford Cottage

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed here with our 3 children (aged 14, 11 and 4) and we all had a wonderful time. The cottage was very traditional and cosy but also had everything that a family would need. It was very clean and tidy, and we would definitely recommend it. The location is ideal with plenty to see and do in the area and the village of Chalford itself is very picturesque. The owners are a very friendly and accommodating couple. Excellent all round.

Lovely character cottage in a peaceful location

  • 5 out of 5
Getting together with friends, we had a lovely weekend in this tiny Cotswolds village. The cottage was clean and cosy with a welcoming feel and everything we needed for a comfortable stay, especially on a winter evening with the woodburner alight.
Owner Anna was helpful and unobtrusive and provided plenty of useful information about the local area. We loved the Lavender Bakehouse tea and cakes, and the walk along the canal to the Crown Inn at Frampton Mansell, a beautiful old candlelit pub. The roads are steep and narrow, but the location is very peaceful and we would definitely stay here again.

Country grace and charm at its best!

  • 5 out of 5
This cottage is a delightful base for exploring the Cotswolds. It's old world charm is beautifully complemented by the sympathetically modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. It is cosy without being cramped, has a lovely outlook and feels like a home away from home. Anna, the owner, is lovely and very welcoming. A real highlight of our holiday in the UK and very highly recommended.

Birthday Party

  • 5 out of 5
We gave this familiy trip to my mother for her 60th and are so happy that we decided to stay at Green Court. A beautiful cottage in a charming village with loads to do outside. The region is perfect fo hiking, nice restaurants offer splendid food and wines and Chalford is a perfect starting point for day-trips to Oxford, Bath, Sudeley Castle etc.
We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come back next year for our mother's next birthday :)

Charming B&B

Charming B&B
  • 5 out of 5
We had a lovely weekend in the Cotswolds and most of it was spent in the town of Chalford. The cottage is everything the images depicts in a serine valley with nearby creek. It was a perfect break away from the bustle of London and out of town guests. We would definitely recommend this cottage and certainly return in the near future. The flat is clean and cozy and all the charm of an English cottage.

Owner's Response: It was great to be able to welcome another family to Chalford and our Cottage. I notice they'd put in the heading 'charming B&B' - just for clarity's sake I wanted to point out that it's a self catering accommodation. :)

Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village with its steep hills and houses perched along small donkey tracks.
