Guestbook comments from the owner
We had a wonderful time staying in the Trullo, the accommodation was lovely and very clean, we even managed a swim in the pool towards the end of the week. We also went to the beach and tried the place you suggested. All in all it was a great week and we visited lots of beautiful places. I will recommend you to my friends and family and wish you all the best for the future.

We are a married couple with four grown up children. We enjoy travelling and visiting new places. We play golf, love bike riding and skiing. We are both semi retired and visit France and Italy whenever we can.

In 2006 we visited Puglia for the first time for a holiday and visited Alberobello where we learnt about i trulli. We liked the area so much that we considered purchasing a trullo in its original unrestored form. We liked the unspoilt coast and countryside. The calmness and peacefulness of staying in the country..very relaxing . We like the puglian way of life. The offer we made was not accepted so a few months later we made another visit this time we were successful and purchased 2 trulli restored to the 'shell' stage so new windows, floors, kitchens etc. had to be added and a pool. Luckily we found a fantastic agent who helped us complete the renovations, It was finished on time, to budget and to a very high build standard.

It's great staying at our trulli in a large group of up to 12 or staying in one of our trullo .They are far enough apart to create enough space and the pool is large enough for 2 families. We enjoy visiting the local villages especially on market day. going to the coast for lunch or just relaxing by the pool with a BBq at night. We visit the trull every month in low season and try to stay for a month once a year. Each year we improve the property with any profits we make for both our clients and our enjoyment. In the spring and autumn we enjoy warm sunny days and then in the evening we light the log burning stove, this and the under floor heating make the trullo very cosy. We hope our guests enjoy them as much as we do.. this season is our 6th season Enjoy

Location :- Italy (Puglia)
Review :- Mike & Sandra Harsent (Essex. UK)
Date Travelled :- 13th Oct 2013 – 20th Oct 2013

General :- A very chilled out holiday with as much or as little as you want to do. Very peaceful and calming. No noise from traffic just silence.
Nestled within Olive and Almond groves in the countryside, but only a short car drive to the local town where all you amenities are. Trulli are well spaced apart with a large private swimming pool between them and comfortable sun loungers for that stressing day ahead.
Lots of places to visit old towns, Secluded beaches, World Heritage sites to mention just a few.
Lots of time to dine out in real Italian restaurants

Accommodation :- The trullo/Trulli are very spacious easy sleeps 6 adult’s, Very high spec interior finish from decor to furniture, A lot bigger than it appears in the photos, Ample parking for cars, Very nice to have alfresco breakfast each day outside on the well appointed patio. Internet access so you don’t have to be totally disconnected from the outside world. Nice to have the welcome pack when you first arrive after a long journey. The 3 double bedrooms are very modern spacious and inviting.

Travelling :- Easy to get about but you do need a car. Good instruction from the owners from the airport (Brindisi) to the Trulli. Monopoli is the only exception easy to get in, but you will need a sat nav to get out.

Summary :-

A fascinating treat to stay in a fairytale-like trullo (the region's trademark conical-roofed house), in a part of Italy that I suspect is like no other. The owners' two trulli are neighbours in their rural setting, but far enough apart for each to have its privacy. There are olive trees as far as the eye can see, and we loved picking and eating almonds straight from the trees in the garden.
Inside, our trullo was smart, fresh and modern, with a lovely snug - ideal for curling up undisturbed with a tourist guide, music and a glass of limoncello.
We drove into the nearest town, Castellana Grotte, for shopping and amazing caves. Don't expect the shops to keep city-style opening hours though - part of the charm of Puglia is that you take it as you find it. My favourite town was Martina Franca (known for baroque and rococo buildings), while Polignano a Mare had a certain shabby chic. Top tip: Invest in a great map!

Serenety... and more when you're ready
  • 5 out of 5
We were there in April. It was warm on the terrace, cool in the shadows of the trullo and its olives, quiet, surrounded by the ancient spirits that make the mystery of trulli.

When we were ready for exploring we found a wide cultural history in in easy driving range: Matera's ancient caves, Roman ruins at Estensi, and the cathedrals of the Normans that made this southern ‘conquest’ at the same time William was working on England.

For pure entertainment we found the caves at Castelana Grotte amazing, the beaches bright in the sun, the seafood along the coast excellent, and primativo wine that will make you forget it all if you’re not careful. Italian roads can be pretty confusing, so its a good idea to have a GPS to get you easily to all these places.

A group of four stayed at Trullo Acquario in June 2010. We were very impressed by the location of the villa and Puglia in general. It was everything you could possibly want in a holiday. The villa was well equipped with good facilities. We particularly enjoyed the surround sound and i-pod dock to listen to music in the evening, the BBQ and BBQ equipment, the welcome hamper, the swimming pool, the open invitation to pick cherries of the trees and the support of the owners in arranging a birthday cake for one of our party during our stay. The customer service we received from the owners before and during the stay was excellent. The information provided on the local area help us orientate ourselves quickly so we could start planning trips for the week and supermarket visits. Some minor criticisms, had I known how narrow the road around the villa was I would of perhaps hired a smaller car. I am not a particularly confident driver when driving overseas and found navigating the smaller roads in a larger 4x4 rather daunting. In addition the pool often had bugs in it which was a little annoying. These were however very minor and the trip and the trullo overall was enjoyed immensely by everyone

Owner's Response: The pool is cleaned regularly, we do suggest that our guest may from time to time need to use the pool net provided to remove the flies and leaves that collect on the surface.

We flew into Bari Airport and collected the hire car.The weather was bleak and overcast, but the journey was engagingly pleasant-tight country roads with many a winding turn.A car is essential.Where were we going? The location map supplied was easy to understand and to follow. Eventually we arrived at this gate. Was this it? Through the gate we went and before us was this weird looking building -not dissimilar to 3 "beehives" joined together. Hmm!! But when we opened the door we were aghast at the fantastic natural stone entrance and the marble flooring. We found a well appointed kitchen with all the required equipment -cooker dishwasher fridge etc all clean and tidy. The bedrooms were clean and the bed linen had that "fresh" smell. The bathroom and ensuite were in excellent condition and the underfloor heating was on- luxury!! We settled down for the evening eating and drinking our purchases from the local supermarket, accompanied by the red and orange glow emitted by the log fire that gave the room a warm inviting ambience. The pictures on the website just do not give it justice! Over the next few days we ventured out to the market at Alborobello, visited Castellana,Monopoli, caught the train to Bari passing through the rolling countryside, and fantastic vistas of the Adriatic and Puglia, always knowing that on our return to the Trullo, there awaited a substantial well insulated, warm, inviting abode. Some days we even pottered around the grounds collecting firewood picking fruit and taking in the sights and talking to the very friendly locals. In itself strangely relaxing. At this time of the year the pool was understandably closed down, but one can imagine the joy it would bring to young and not so young alike in the summer months, chiling out and soaking up the sun, content in the knowledge that the children are in a safe environment, the facilities are first class, and you are not being overlooked by anyone else. You can cook on the barbecue or in the kitchen using the local produce or you could treat yourself to a pizza, or evening meal in the reasonably priced restaurants in and around the local towns. There is good value to be found. Recommendations are listed in the Trullo with addresses and phone numbers. The choice is yours. This home is not like any other holiday home.It is trulli unique! There is so much you can do in the the surrounding areas, you can be as adventurous as you want,or just relax.I have no hesitation in recommending this accomodation to anyone

The sun seems to always shine at our trulli in Puglia. So, when you've finished relaxing in the sunshine by the pool, why not visit some of the most spectacular caves in Italy at Castellana Grotte or experience the historic town of Alberobello with its many trulli. Sample the bars and restaurants in both local towns in the evening, where you can enjoy the Italian cuisine and wine, join the locals in promenading (passeggiata) late into the night. We often visit the food and clothes markets in Alberobello, Castellana Grotte and Locorotondo. As Rick Stein says there is nothing we have in the UK that compares to this way of buying fresh local produce. We also enjoy lunch in the old town of Monopoly .

Other places to visit include Ostuni, Lecce, Bari and Brindindsi.

We particularly like Polignano a Mare, its shops, market and restaurants are a must .in addition to lunch at local fishing villages, overlooking the sea and bathing on the beaches of the Adriatic coast.
