Our home is on the property but separate from the cottage. We have raised two adult children here.
Until last year our elderly mother lived in our cottage enjoying her independence while having family nearby. She lived until she was 92 but sadly she passed away last year.
We are local residents and would be happy to assist our guests in any way we can including old folk lore stories about the Island, directions and advice about interesting features, attractions, restaurants and anything else about Bermuda.
Dorothy Billings purchased this cottage in 1985
Friendly safe neighborhood, privacy, water's edge at the cottage door step, large grass lawn and garden, close to restaurants, pubs, grocery stores and other activities.
We are sad to be leaving – we loved this place and the Islands of Bermuda. Highlights for us were kayaking, travelling along the island roads on the local buses, swimming off the private beach whenever the urge took us and long sunsets on the terace with dark & stormies in hand. Brian and Dorothy were perfect hosts, ferrying us to the market and up to the lighthouse – our favorite dining spot on the island. We hope to return.
Everything that people have written about Oyster Point is true: Breathtaking and idyllic location, close to restaurants, beaches, and a marketplace, a private and fully stocked cottage filled with essentials.
Although necessary and important, these components are not what make Oyster Point remarkable. The element that makes Oyster Point so special is our Hosts: Dorothy, Brian, their family and of course, Abbie and Zooey. My husband and I had an unplanned extension to our vacation, as tropical storm Fay hit the island. Brian and Dorothy couldn't have been more accommodating to us. We were treated like family friends. I'm still a bit stunned how warm, kind and welcoming they were to us.
You may notice when staying at Oyster Point the framed print on the wall stating: 'Enter as strangers, leave as friends'. Perhaps that saying may be trite elsewhere, but at Oyster Point, the statement is fact. Thank you, we will be back!
We stayed at this lovely cottage for three days and enjoyed every minute. The hosts, Brian and Dorothy, welcomed us to their nice compound. The cottage is an easy walk to the grocery store, bus and beaches. It was hot when we were there and the private beach was so nice to cool off in. We enjoyed everything but especially the little patio outside the cottage. We sat out there every night and watched the sunset.
Everything you read in the previous posts is correct, this place is ideal, close to bus line, private, beautiful setting, I could go on and on. Bottom line, if you are going to Bermuda and are fortunate enough to find a vacancy here, BOOK IT!! You will not find a better place to stay on the island.
We recently spent a week at Oyster Point Cottage and this vacation home is every bit as lovely as the photos show. Brian and Dorothy were wonderful hosts; kind and helpful if we had a question, but always very respectful of our privacy. Dorothy left a delicious rum cake for our arrival (thank you!) and made us feel at home immediately.
The cottage itself is spacious & extremely well equipped with every kind of item you might possibly think of: lots of towels & beach towels, extra pillows, soaps, books, wifi and large flat screen with plenty of channels, plus a kitchen with all the gadgets and kitchen wares, even a selection of plastic storage containers and thermos if you decide to have a picnic! The bed is super comfy and the nights are quiet. As wonderful as this cottage is, the view from the patio is even better! A quiet cove, dotted with boats, and at night, the light of Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse shining down on you... It doesn’t get much better than this.
As mentioned in earlier reviews, the location of the cottage is ideal. A short walk on a hedged laneway leads you to a main bus route. From there, you can go anywhere on the island quickly and easily. While there is a Marketplace (grocery store) and cute local cafe quite close by, we quickly discovered that it was very easy and inexpensive to shop at the Marketplace across from the main Bus Depot in Hamilton. Before heading back on the #8 bus, we’d stop in to pick up dinner from their huge buffet of ready-made, fresh foods at the market. Enjoying those easy dinners while watching the boats in the Bay was one of the nicest parts of each busy day.
If you are thinking of booking Oyster Point Cottage, don’t hesitate. Bermuda is such a beautiful place to explore and relax, and the cottage at Oyster Cove is, absolutely, a perfect home-away-from-home.
My husband and I took a belated honeymoon and babymoon to this cottage, and it was wonderful from the moment we arrived. Brian and Dorothy were welcoming and informative, and their knowledge of the island helped make our stay more exciting and adventurous. I also appreciated their offer of picking up groceries for us so we didn't have to immediate run off to the store upon arrival, and we could get started enjoying our vacation the minute our bags were dropped.
The rum cake and rum swizzle were a thoughtful touch to a well-appointed home with stunning views of the harbor. We also enjoyed our visits from the pups, Abby and Zoe, both very friendly and affectionate! Four visits in seven years, and Oyster Point Cottage is by far our favorite stay and plan to return again one day! Thank you to Brian and Dorothy for all your help - we're only sorry we didn't get to say goodbye, as no one was home when our cab arrived the last day. Best wishes!
We have been staying at Oyster Point Cottage for close to a week and sadly have five more days to go. The pictures do not do this traditional cottage justice. It is very large, comfortable and very close to the water. We have been coming to Bermuda for 35 years and this place has the best location by far, with easy access to everything. The cottage is very well appointed with comfortable furnishings, lots of dishes, linen and pretty well anything one would ever need. It feels more like a home than a vacation property. It is very private even though there is very easy access to the rest of the Islands of Bermuda. There is an ever changing view from the cute patio. There is a grocery store and several restaurants within walking distance and bus service is reliable to get anywhere you wish to go. The owners are very pleasant, helpful and respect your privacy. The kayaking is great and the little beach is just fine for a dip. We would highly recommend this property to anyone!
