A RICH HISTORY: In the nearby village of Escairon you will find most local amenities; supermarkets, banks, restaurants, bars, post office, tourist information office. The village also boasts a municipal open-air swimming pool (open during the summer). The river beach at A Cova on the river Mino is a short car drive away. The area, Ribeira Sacrá, boasts many local fiestas. The nearby town of Monforte de Lemos offers a wider choice of services. Despite its appearance and size, Monforte is in fact a city. It’s most prominent features are the monastery of San Vicente do Pino and the Torre de Homenaxe, both perched high on a hill in the centre of the town dominating the surrounding area. Another building of historic interest is the convent of the Franciscanas Descalzas. Within the convent is the Nais Clarisas museum which contains some of the highest quality religious artifacts in the whole of Spain.

THINGS TO DO: Campo Verde is an excellent base from which to discover the charm of the Ribeira Sacrá. The area boasts one of the greatest concentrations of Romanesque Art in Spain. Take a leisurely cruise in one of the catamarans on the river Sil or Mino. On the other hand you could just lay back and enjoy the sun on a river beach, like that at A Cova.
In addition to exploring the area by car we would also recommend that you take time out to do some walking and bird watching or enjoy a round of golf. If relaxation is your aim why not visit a thermal spa and let the hot sulphurous waters soothe away your aches and pains or simply relax in the warm Galician sunshine reading a book as time gently slips by. Whatever you choose to do Campo Verde is the perfect holiday retreat.

Why Craig Briggs chose O Savinao
Campo Verde is situated in the heart of the Galician countryside in the village of Vilatan. It’s an ideal location from which to explore Galicia and northern Portugal. They bought the house as a ruin, without water or electricity. Using local craftsmen they painstakingly converted it into the luxury farmhouse it is today. Their attention to detail and desire to retain as many original features as possible can be seen throughout the property.
What makes this farmhouse unique
There are wonderful walks right from the front door along paths and caminos. Tiny hamlets scatter the countryside with pastures for sheep and cattle. It’s a wonderful place for bird watchers and in spring wildflowers blanket the landscape. Perhaps Campo Verde’s main attraction is its central location providing visitors quick and easy access to Galicia’s main attractions; Santiago de Compostela, Lugo, Ourense, the coast, The Camino de Santiago, the fjord-like canyon of the river Sil, to name but a few.
