Jamesey's Cottage is a charming stone built holiday house which is available to rent. The cottage overlooks Caragh Lake on the Ring of Kerry and has fantastic views of Dingle bay and the lake. The home has just been extended and refurbished using stone, wood beams, slate and teak windows and features a vaulted lounge with large stone fire place. The large cottage (250sqm) has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 11 people. The home is ideal for 2 families or 1 large family.

Jamesey’s Holiday Cottage is situated above Caragh Lake, near Glenbeigh on the Ring of Kerry. GPS N 52 02.846 W 9 51.37. The house has spectacular views of the lake extending across Dingle bay to the Slieve Mish Mountains. The recently renovated house is an ideal romantic getaway and a perfect location for anyone one enjoys hillwalking and outdoor activities. There is an activity centre close to the house and it welcomes visitors.

The start of the Reeks walk and Ireland’s highest mountain, Carauntoohill is 8km. Salmon and trout fishing are available on Caragh Lake and many local rivers.

The cottage is 10 km from Killorglin with its wonderful seafood restaurants and traditional pubs with music. Carraig House, a country house hotel and restaurant is a short drive down on the lakeshore. It is10km to Dooks golf course, and 18km to Killarney golf course. Rossbeigh beach is 13km away and is a poplular venue for surfers, windsurfers and body boarding - Ireland's latest craze.

As promised in September 2010 we returned to Jamesey's cottage, and once again we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

From the moment we first contacted Clodagh and Theo to the time we let Catherine know we had left, and where she could find the key, we were treated warmly and with respect.

As was the case previously, the house was perfect. We, and our guests, thoroughly enjoyed our stay and everything about the house was perfect. The house was spotless when we arrived and everything was in good working order. Absolutely no issues (well, almost none) arose and when we did have a question Catherine was readily available to respond.

The house has pretty well everything you would need already on hand and is well equipped to handle a crowd, no matter how big or small it might be.

But most charming are the neighbours. The surrounding fields are full of sheep, rabbits, birds, some impressively large goats and even the occasional cow and they are all a joy to watch.

If you want some peace and quiet this is definitely the house for you. Living in the middle of a city that comprises 3.2 million people we really appreciated how peacefully quiet the house is.

Clodagh and Theo, once again, thanks. Your hospitality, and understanding, were/are truly appreciated.

And lastly, we will once again return to our home away from home. See you soon.

Si vous aimez l'Irlande vous tomberez amoureux de cette location. En toute sincérité. La demeure luxueuse toute en sobriété est située à un petit quart d'heure de Killorglin. Ce quart d'heure est un plaisir quotidien car la maison se trouve en pleine nature, montagne et lacs, surplombe le lac Caragh et fait face à la presqu'ile de Dingle et ses montagnes c'est franchement à tomber! Cette situation est vraiment exceptionnelle, un résumé de ce qu'on a envie de voir en Irlande. C'est parfait pour rayonner dans le Sud Ouest, le Kerry évidemment, le parc national de Killarney, Muckross etc..mais aussi Dingle et les péninsules plus au Sud, Beara notamment.
Nous avons passé un séjour idéal, au milieu de la lande, des moutons, des lapins du jardin (!), dans cette maison exceptionnelle encore une fois du fait de sa situation et de son attrait propre. La grande classe! J'en reviens et je recommande sincèrement avec vigueur.

Great place for an extended family

Great place to stay for an extended family or two families of three or four each (which was the case for us). The cottage has four well equipped bedrooms and a great living room with open fire, a well equipped kitchen and a fabulous view across the lake.

It is a bit off the beaten track, it takes some 20 minutes by car to the nearest village of Killorglin and some 45 Minutes to Killarney, but in return you are really in a beautiful, unspoilt environment. Just don't forget to close the gates, or you will return to find a few sheep in the garden!

Also a good starting point to explore the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle peninsula (which we liked even better).

Certainly a recommendable place for a week in the countryside!

Training base for athletes

I brought a group of elite athletes to train in the area (hills, sand dunes etc), this was one of 3 locations we used to house the athletes, Jamesey's cottage was 'home' to 8 of them. The accommodation was fantastic - really warm and comfortable with plenty of space. Most evenings there were between 15 & 20 people in the living area where (as a group) we watched TV or were entertained by some of the group who also happen to be great musicians. Would definitely use Jamesey's cottage as a base again.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

A 40th birthday weekend

I rented Jameseys cottage for my 40th birthday and invited extended family down for the weekend. There was 12 in total - 7 adults and 5 children. The cottage more than catered to all our needs. The kids loved the attic space, I didn't see them for the weekend : ) they had books, dvds, games at their disposal and all in a really cool hangout. As for the adults - the kitchen was extremely well stocked with all the necessary utensils, the lovely fireplace with a fine basket of logs and briquettes was used, the sound system was excellent for our party mix on the ipod, bedrooms again lovely and showers fantastic. Haven't mention the location which was certainly a highlight of the cottage, its situated in a beautiful scenic and private spot and we had the added bonus of really nice autumn weather which made it perfect. I would highly recommend this house, thanks again Theo and Clodagh.
Note : for wheelchair users there is a step into front door and patio door that could inhibit entry or exit but indoors is fully accessible.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway
