About this property

Golmar 13. Country house, sea views, and space!

Dating back to the beginning of the nineteenth century, Golmar 13, which has been restored respecting traditional methods and using local chestnut and stone, was originally the main house in the small hamlet of Golmar. The hamlet sits at the head of an untouched bowl-shaped valley some 200 metres above sea level on the seaward side of the densely forested ridge that separates the ría de Cedeira from the Atlantic. From its privileged position, the house enjoys what is possibly the most extensive coastal view in the whole of Spain; looking down across green fields, black cliffs, and 90km of sea and coast (all the way to the Islas Sisargas on the Costa de la Muerte). The hamlet forms a cul-de-sac, meaning that nobody passes through! Here you will find perfect tranquillity, the only sounds coming from the wind moving through the eucalyptus and the Atlantic swell breaking on the rocks far below. Dirt tracks and footpaths lead down to the cliffs or through the forest to one of Galicia's legendary lighthouses at Punta Candeleria. Walk about the hamlet at night, and you may well come across a wild horse, fox, or wild boar! By car, Golmar is a five minute drive from the fishing village of Cedeira, with its protected bay and beach, its shops, and famous tapas bars (the best percebes in Spain are supposedly collected from the base of its cliffs!) Drive for another 10 minutes and you come to the much photographed beach of Vilarrube, where a 1.5km stretch of fine white sand divides the mouths of two rivers that in a myriad of blues and greens (for ever changing with the state of the tide) run in to the far side of the ría de Cedeira. The beach is backed by a dune system with plants unique to this stretch of coast.

Accommodation at Golmar 13 is on two floors:

Large drawing-room with open fire, French windows opening on to garden, and sea-view; dining-room with sea view; fully-fitted kitchen with original wood-burning stove; double bedroom with shower room.

I have found my second home.
I have now spent three summers in Golmar 13, and I can not imagine a summer in any other place. We are all different, and all we are looking for different characteristics of an accommodation. With that said, I would still say that this is a house that everyone would enjoy. It is one of the most beautiful and personal houses I stayed at, and it feels like a second home to me. The house itself is large and can accommodate many people. My friends and I usually spend 6 weeks in this house during the summer months, and it is held 12 people without any problem. The bedrooms are large, airy and have good natural light. The day can not be bad after waking up in these bedrooms. The beds are also large and comfortable. The house has two large living rooms, and these are perfect for a group to sit and hang out at. The rooms are large and have comfortable sofas, and one in the living room has a wide window overlooking the Atlantic. The second living room has a large fireplace, and here we have spent many wonderful evenings by the fireplace, playing cards and drinking tea. The kitchen is large and spacious, and the surfaces are good for cooking. There are also tables and chairs in the kitchen, so you can hang out there while cooking. There is also a lovely dining room where you can enjoy long dinners. And then it is the nature that surrounds the house. There is not much that beats it. The garden is really amazingly beautiful, and I love to spend long days in the shade under one of the trees in the garden. It is surrounded by green nature and eucalyptus trees, and dramatic cliffs along the coast. The view is spectacular, and the sunsets here are incredibly beautiful. Birds chirping day long, and you can really find a peace of mind when you're there. For families, this is a perfect destination to travel to. Because the house is so protected from major roads and traffic so the kids can run free and play. There is also much to do, and my friends and I usually spend several hours a day surfing on one of the beaches nearby. The waves are usually right size and good for beginners to learn on. The water is cold, but it's no problem if you acquire a good wetsuit. I've also got a very good picture of the wonderful host Andrew. He will always help if something is needed or has gone wrong. It feels safe to have him as a host. I can recommend this house with all of my heart. I hope for your sake that you go there. / Johanna

Wonderful, stunning views
This is a wonderful retreat in an idyllic hamlet. Stunning views, great local walks, sea cliffs, swimming and surfing beaches, towns and seafood. The home is large, comfortable and beautifully furnished. The owners provided lots of helpful local information and were great to liaise with. Our two families had one of the best holidays ever.

One of my favorite places in the entire world
I've been returning to Galicia every year since 2013. One of the reasons is the amazing and magical place, Golmar. Arriving from France, after a beautiful drive along the coastline of northern Spain, there's always a peculiar feeling entering the curvy roads in the Galician woods which are filled with impenetrable Eucalyptus. Suddenly, you get out from the trees and there it is, Golmar, overlooking the massive Atlantic ocean. The feeling is really in-explainable, but it stays with you the entire journey and in your memories when you've gotten home. The property is a well-maintained and modernized stone house made in typical Galician style. It is a very comfortable place to relax after a day of adventure - both inside the house and outside in the garden. The owner, Andrew, has always been very helpful to me and my friends during our stay. And so have the neighbors! If there was anything we needed help with when Andrew was not there we always asked them, with whom we've now become good friends. What I like about this part of Galicia is that it feels untouched. The general tourism is minimal. I mostly go surfing during the day (in uncrowded waves), but there are a lot of other things to experience and see around the area, for example the Herbeira Cliffs! I'm looking forward to coming this summer again!

An outstanding peaceful house of great character
We were thrilled when we arrived to find Golmar13 not only In a fantastic position on the cliff top with a magnificent coastal view but a house furnished and equipped to a considerably higher standard than an average holiday letting. Exceptionally comfortable with bonus of 2 very large sitting rooms with space for everyone to 'do their own thing'. Kitchen was fully equipped with separate dining room. 3 excellent bathrooms. Plenty of garden furniture. Cedeira is a fun village with lots of tapas bars and small restaurants. Good range of beaches (car essential) with acres of sand and fine surfing, and endless walks from the house. Altogether an exceptional find which we hope to return to soon.

Last undiscovered gem in southern Europe
Golmar 13 is simply the most peaceful and spectacular getaway you can find in southern Europe. Tucked away in the little saga-like village of Transmonte but only a short drive from Cedeira and the beaches. The villa itself has an aura of total harmony, a carefully restored farmhouse. And the views are spectacular and second to none. Will be back next summer and the summer after that...
