Villa dei Leoni is a structure from 1800 that still illustrates the style and culture of the noble families of that period who spent their weekends and holidays on the Riviera dei Limoni. It has of course been restructured and the ground level, with an enormous terrace, now has an independent apartment while the owners occupy the first floor. Immersed in a vast garden full of Mediterranean vegetation and lemon trees, it is in the centre of this little fishing village called S.Tecla. The swimming pool and its surrounding terrace are completely hedged offering much privacy and is opened at the beginning of May. The apartment is simply and adequately furnished and the rooms sport the original high, vaulted ceilings. A short walk down the driveway to the Villa gates, one arrives into the village where there are bars, pizzerias and restaurants offering typically Sicilian, fish specialities. Within a further five minute walk is a rocky beach and the beautifully clean, clear Ionian sea.
Although we were arriving quite late on a Sunday night Francesca was on hand to make the introductions, show us the property and assure us that she was only a call away if we had any problems, which was welcome but unnecessary as our stay was both immensely enjoyable and trouble free. Before Francesca left us that night she pointed out the glow from Mount Etna which is visible from the terrace.
We were a family travelling with 3 children. Our days started with breakfast on the terrace, swimming and relaxation at the pool mixed with trips to the many attractions within reasonable driving distance. Undoubtedly the highlight was the short trip to Mount Etna from where there are magnificent views in all directions as well as the opportunity to experience the surreal lava rock landscape.
The apartment is well located for dinner restaurants in the evening. We ate locally, in nearby Acireale and also went to the stunning tourist destination of Taormina which is about a 40 minute drive away.
Overall we had a wonderful time. To fully appreciate the area a car is essential. All the family would look forward to returning.
Villa dei Leoni is a beautiful property in a sweet Italian seaside village. Apartments are comfortable, but hardly used as we spent most of our time on the terrace with a great view on the Etna who was very active. Or in the swimming pool with a great hot/cold shower that we used more than the shower in our apartment. Or in the sea jumping from rocks in clean water.
The owners are very nice, helpful and eager to make the most of your stay. Go for a morning swim in the sea, have your cappucino with brioche at the kiosque and rince off the salt at the pool. Then sip on your lemonade (fresh lemons from the garden). How much more do you need! There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, but you can also cook your own with fresh fish bought from local fishermen.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation.
Villa Dei Leoni is a wonderful place to stay. It is a beautiful house, clean, with a great swimming pool and Francesca and her family are doing everything to make your stay perfect. And a lot of beautiful places like Taormina, Catania and the Etna are nearby. When we are going back to Sicily, we are sure we go to Villa Dei Leoni again.
Villa Dei Leoni is a family-owned sicilian Villa, build in the 19. Century with a large lemon-tree plantage. The owner-family always give the guests a very warm and hospitable feeling. The 3 apartments are tidy and sicilian-like furnished. From the partly 2,5m deep Pool you have an amazing view at the vulcano Etna. Leaving the location you find the cute italian living of the tiny fishing village Santa Tecla. Only a few KM there is the faszinating city Acireale, for us a mixture of Sorrento and Taormina. We have been to many different places in Italy, this is definitly one, we will visit again!
We enjoyed the very special location in the middle of the nice little
town of S. Tecla.
The rooms, the garden and the pool are beautiful and made us feel very
comfortable. Francesca and her family were very kind and gave helpful
information about everything we needed and asked for.
The rooms offer a lot of space and the kitchen-part allows you to cook,
if you want to.
The garden is very beautiful, especially the old lemon-trees! The pool
is also very beautiful and big enough - so you can really swimm..
We also liked bathing in the sea, which is only five minutes away, and
the restaurant nearby.
All in all we loved the place an would like to come again!
Villa dei Leoni is a beautiful building in a typical Italian village. Although it is in the center of the village,, and a very short stroll from the village square and the sea it is set back from the road in the midst of fruit trees and other mature trees and plants and is very peaceful. Francesca and her family are welcoming and helpful and Francesca speaks good English which was a great help for us.
We did not hire a car but were able to visit all the places we were interested in using buses, trains and the occasional taxi, including Taormina and Randazza.
The sea is not brilliant for young children, although the adults in our party enjoyed the clear water and waves, but the wonderful swimming pool more than makes up for this!
We were a family party of three generations and we all had a really good holiday and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for an Sicilian holiday with a wonderful Sicilian ambiance.
A short walk down the driveway to the Villa gates, one arrives into the village where there are bars, pizzerias and restaurants offering typically Sicilian, fish specialities. Within a further five minute walk is a rocky beach and the beautifully clean, clear Ionian sea. Behind the village rises the eastern side of Mount Etna, to the north is the town of Giarre and to the south the town of Acireale has thermal springs, 16th century churches and a magnificent Cathedral.
