Overview

Photos and Description of this 6 bedroom holiday home in Grolejac - Le Pech Long

Two houses, 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 11. Salt water pool, BBQ. Wi Fi

Pech Long has an exceptional setting in the Dordogne countryside, two houses at the end of a ridge, surrounded by big oaks and acacias, few kilometres from the Dordogne river. The views are fantastic, you can even admire the sight of the two towers of the church in Gourdon about ten kilometres away.

Nearby are the beautiful towns of Sarlat, Domme and Roque Gageac

The newly renovated swimming pool and the houses are surrounded by the garden, approximately one acre, for your exclusive use, with a large lawn, bushes and flowerbeds, and in the surroundings farming fields and woods. The two houses, the Old House and the New House, built in the Perigordine golden limestone are partly more than 200 years old. Together they sleep 11 persons. The property, is excellent for a large family or other groups wanting privacy.

The property has everything your family need, BBQ for cooking, modern kitchens and bathrooms, Hi Fi, garden furniture and firewood available. Dogs admitted.

The New House: The New House has three bedrooms which sleep five persons, two bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, electric oven and hob, washing machine) and a grand lounge with a traditional fireplace, beams and wide stone stairs leading to the first floor. The furnishings include a dinner table for eight, a corner sofa, coffee table, reclining chairs, piano and English satellite television and DVD. French windows lead to a conservatory, also fully furnished. The terrace by the entrance has a dining table for eight people.

The Old House: The Old house fits the romantic image of the old French country house, its exterior decorated with the century-old stone staircase and a bread-oven. The kitchen (with dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave/oven, gas hob, washing machine) and the two bathrooms are all newly restored, as are the three bedrooms, while the dining room and lounge reflect the charm of old country living, both with large fireplaces. The dining room has a dinner table for six, the living room a sofa, chairs, a coffee table and a TV-set with French television.

Pool: This salt water pool is 10 by 5 meters, equipped with sunbeds for everyone. There is also another garden dinner table,

which can be moved according to the preference of the guests.

A lovely home in a beautiful part of France.

We can't speak highly enough of how welcome the owners Randi and Arne made us feel. They had bread, cheese and wine waiting for us upon our arrival. As our flights were delayed and we hadn't had a chance to buy food yet, it was a wonderful surprise for four hungry, tired Aussies.

The house is in a beautiful part of France. We had plenty to do and see each day. It was also great to spend the afternoons lazing by the pool eating and having the odd drink or two.

The house has so much charm and was very well appointed. The only negative is that the wifi connection in the old house is a little patchy, and as the owners point out, the connection to the internet in this part of rural France is not the best. However, that made it all the easier to unwind.

Overall it was a fantastic week.

Owner's Response: Thanks a lot to our Australian guests for their nice words! It is true that the internet connection within the thick walls of the Old House is ´patchy´. In the the New House, however, and the garden and pool area it is much better with 3G mobile connection.

Utterly fantastic

Wow, what an amazing find! This is the perfect destination for a relaxing break for an extended family, or a group of close friends. Both houses are beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The quality of of the furniture and appliances is superb, I've never settled into a holiday so quickly before.

The swimming pool is superb. The water is salty, but only slightly. We found that it doesn't sting, it's great for the skin and the pool is really big: we spent many hours in it. The view is amazing across acres of forest, and you would struggle to find anywhere as peaceful.

The owners are attentive and charming, the beds are comfortable, and the location is ideal for activities such as caving, canoeing, horse-riding or walking. Le Pech Long is a slice of heaven on earth.

A hidden gem - wish we could keep this a secret!

  • 5 out of 5
We have just returned from our second holiday at Pech Long, and had booked again for our third year before our feet even landed back in Old Blighty! We would probably describe this wonderful place as our idea of utopia. If you need to relax after a stressful year, this is the place for you. At times, it is deafeningly quiet apart from cries of distant cows, the shrills of the cicadas or the eagles high above. The houses are surrounded by fields and forest, with the most wonderful distant views over surrounding countryside. They are clean, very comfortable and well appointed and served mine and my sister's family very well for two weeks. When we had a minor problem with one of the showers, Helen our local contact arrived shortly after our call to help us out. We have 4 children between us ranging in age from 16 to 24 and all of them (plus various boyfriends/girlfriends) are keen to return with us next year and not just for the free holiday (courtesy of the Bank of Parents), but also for the beautiful swimming pool, canoeing, local golf courses, Sarlat, and Domme etc, and of course the company and wine around the bbq every evening. On a clear night, the starlit sky is breathtaking . We had a full moon this year so not quite so much was visible as last year when we saw multiple shooting stars on the glorious 12th. There is so much to explore, and we have yet to discover even more delights of the Dordogne Valley, but frankly, we find it difficult to pull ourselves away from the tranquility of the setting, especially when the weather is good to us, but when it's not, there is still warmth in the air, and the conservatory a haven where you can enjoy the garden whilst sipping a little aperitif.

Travelling by car is easy from Calais, just a long way but we managed it in 8 hours with two short stops and a change of drivers. The airport at Bergerac is served well with flights and 3 of the children hopped off the flight and onto a train to Sarlat within 30 mins of landing! You are spoiled for choice for supermarkets - all within 20 mins of the house and a small Casino and Boulangerie 10 mins away.

So, should we recommend this place - yes 100% but in all honesty, we would rather keep it our little secret! "

review of Long Pech

  • 5 out of 5
We were very happy at Long Pech which is secluded and calm in the middle of the countryside. The pool was the entertainment and in the very hot weather of mid August it was excellent. We also enjoyed driving to the local markets , chateaux, gardens and eating out which was very authentic. It would be perfect for a group of friends where the kids could amuse themselves. The pool had a secutity fence. The Old House is charming.

A beautiful secret

  • 5 out of 5
We,a Norwegian family with two girls 10 years old, spent a week i May 2008 at Pech Long. We lived in the old house full of soul with a nice mix of french style and...IKEA! In spite of some rain, the pool and the barbeque was a delightful experience in the garden. Pech Long is situated in a very interesting part of France, especially if you're interested in the human history. Don't miss Lascaux which is not far away by car. The local markets in the villages around is another charmy possibility. We had a very nice week in a corner of France which is not very known in Scandinavia. A calm alternative to the french Riviera!

Dordogne vacation

  • 4 out of 5
We are four friends who rented the Old House for a week last september.
The two houses are located in a quiet spot with beautiful natural surroundings,
and a pleasant swimming pool. The roads close to the property were small,
but we received very good driving instructions which allowed us to find the
way without problems.
For us it was an ideal location for day trips to many of the interesting sites
in the Dordogne area, like Les Eyzies, Pech Merle and Lascaux.
Sarlat and Domme are pleasant small towns within reasonable distance
where you can enjoy the French cooking.
We enjoyed our stay and were pleased with the accommodating hosts.

Location

Location

Car: necessary

If you have once visited the Dordogne valley, you will never forget the beauty of the rolling landscape, the meadows, the forests and of course the charming Perigordine architecture. It is also well-known for its many historical monuments, the art of cuisine based on local products not to mention the wines of the area. A wide variety of activities are available few minutes’ drive away. The culturally interested have lots of castles, caves and museums to visit. A short drive brings you to the medieval bastide towns of Domme or Sarlat and picturesque chateaux such as Beynac and Castelnaud, and the world famous Lascaux cave. All towns have their markets showing the real French way: If you want exercise, swimming, canoeing, cycling, tennis and of course walking on some of all the tracks available through forests, over fields and through picturesque villages.
