We are a family of five who live in London but also enjoy weekends and holidays at our house in the Cotwolds. We visit the house regularly and keep it in excellent condition - it is not a soulless holiday rental run by an absent landlord, but a warm and inviting second home which we are pleased to rent out to people looking for a relaxed and fun break from everyday life. 30/04/13 - We are aware there have been press reports about phishing scams being used on holiday rental sites - I would urge you to make sure you are completely happy with all contact with any homeowners before you send any money. I am happy for you to call me any time to confirm bookings and make sure you have all the correct details about the house and our payment process. I handle all the bookings myself and answer all questions as promptly as I can. We have been renting the house out since 2008 and have not had any problems in the past.

Victoria purchased this house in 2008

We fell in love with Lower Mill Estate when we first visited it in 2004, although it was a few years before we decided to buy a property there. It is easy to get to from London (just 15 minutes from the M4), and a great, convenient place to meet up with friends and relatives in Birmingham and Bristol, and yet it is a world away from city living. The Cotswold Water Park has been a revelation with so many interesting activities to explore and all the brilliant cycling routes around the hundreds of lakes - Lower Mill is a peaceful oasis in the middle of some of the UK's loveliest countryside. The Cotswolds, with their charm and beauty, are on the doorstep, but there are often times when we are content to stay on our own little patch - we are blessed with great pubs and local markets and if you really need a quick shopping fix, then nearby Cirencester has many fantastic independent shops.

We love the fact that our children can roam free on bikes and scooters in the Estate - there is minimal traffic and many safe places for children to explore and play. Our youngest can to go to the shop with his big brother - a privilege he couldn't have at home. There are also many local activities, a lake beach, sailing clubs etc in easy reach. When friends visit, we adore the peace and tranquility, sipping drinks while the sun sets across the lake is an incredible tonic after a busy week, and a walk along the Thames Path to an excellent pub makes a perfect Sunday. We also love the luxury of swimming in the stunning Art Spa pools whenever we wish or being pampered in the Spa. The house is airy and cool in summer, warm and cosy in winter - a perfect, year-round holiday destination.

FAB HOUSE IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS

  • 5 out of 5
4 adults and 4 young children (aged 3-6) shared a fantastic week at Hoopoe at the end of October. The house is brilliantly placed for the Artspa - so, no long walks with young children were required. The kids loved the pool and the trampoline was close by.

The house is large enough for 8 people, and the kitchen / lounge fully stocked with the right equipment to make our stay enjoyable.

Washing machine and Dishwasher makes life so much easier!!!

Tesco will deliver to your door and there are some nice child-friendly restaurants in Cirencester.

Thoroughly recommend a stay at Hoopoe!!!

GREAT STAY!

  • 5 out of 5
Fantastic house, great location, lots to do. Even the nearby labourers drilling into the main gas line rendering us without hot water for a few days could dampen the spirit! Will hopefully return next summer!

Owner's Response: So glad you all had a good time during your stay at Hoopoe Cottage, and I'm relieved the temporary cut to the Clearwater gas line didn't spoil things. Thank goodness the hot showers of the Art Spa were only two minutes' walk away! We look forward to welcoming you back next year.

AN EXCELLENT, RELAXING STAY!

  • 5 out of 5
We visited Hoopoe for a relaxing weekend and it certainly was that. The on-site spa facilities were top notch (some of the best treatments we've ever had) and the cafe and sports facilities were a bonus.

The house is as beautiful as it looks and it comes with ample games, toys, cooking utensils and food basics to make for a fun, stress-free stay.

The weather didn't allow us to enjoy some of the walks around the area but it was beautiful nonetheless to sit in the warm and look out across the stunning lake and the surroundings.

I would thoroughly recommend this property for a big group or family stay. I will be visiting again!

LOVELY LARGE HOUSE IN A BEAUTIFUL SETTING

  • 5 out of 5
There were 6 adults and 4 children in our party and the house accommodated us very easily, did not feel overcrowded and easily seated all 10 of us around the table! The house has everything you need for your stay and is in easy reach of the amenities on site. The spa pools are lovely, we had a swim there most days. The children made full use of the play areas, and the adults used the tennis courts and did some fishing! We had some lovely days out to the Cotswold wildlife park, butts farm, Cirencester, bourton on the water and lydiard park in Swindon which are all easily reached in the car.
This is a lovely large house in a beautiful setting with fantastic amenities free to use on site within walking distance. A great holiday had by all!!

HEAVEN

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed over a bank holiday and were blessed with great weather, the house is fantastic an it did feel like a home, lots of games dvd's and books around, loved all the pictures and the watercolours the views out of the enormous doors were great, steps away from the water and hearing the birds in the morning was glorious...however the biggest thing was the place itself, walks away from two outdoor heated pools, the spa was a real treat, a little well stocked shop with a lovely friendly lady serving food and snacks. My girls were set free as I felt it was such a safe place they could scoot off wherever they liked. There seems to be lots to do very close by, watersports and cycling, however as the weather was so good we made the most of it and lazed by the pool the majority of the time....it was heaven! WE

WONDERFUL WEEKEND STAY!

  • 5 out of 5
Would highly recommend this house for anyone looking for a relaxing time away with family or friends. The view out the back of the house is so peaceful where you can relax on the decking and watch the swans and ducks glide by on the lake in the day and the sunset at night. Privacy is really good too with no really close onlooking houses (which a lot of the houses in this estate seem to suffer from). The bedrooms are all a good size with comfy beds and the kitchen had everything we needed to be able to self cater. It was very clean and provided toys and games for adults and children. We filled the maximum quota of people and the house felt plenty big enough for us all. The owner is very friendly and was quick to respond to our questions and give us advice on things to do in the area. Thank you for a wonderful stay in Hoopoe Cottage :-)
