JULY 4-11 / JULY 11-18 / JULY 18-25 FOR £550 DOWN FROM £700

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Hope Cove - Brook Cottages 1, 2 & 3

Sleeps 6 - family friendly chalet, big garden, moments from the beach

The front door opens directly into a comfortable lounge and open plan kitchen / dining area. Each cottage has three bedrooms, each sleeping 2 people to accommodate 6 people overall. There is a twin room, and a double room which leads into a room with a bunk bed. There is a shower room with sink & WC off the lounge. A baby bath, cot & high chair is provided in each cottage, together with plastic plates, cups & cutlery.

Set in about 2 acres of shared gardens it is perfect to let the family run around. There is a communal BBQ & outside dinning area & informal lawns. From the lounge & kitchen there are beautiful views onto the immediate garden & grazing fields on the other side of the valley. Badgers often appear after dark to keep guests company.

Shared facilities with other cottage residents include a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer for guest use.

Further details on accommodation etc: Shared facilities with other cottage residents include laundry room with a washing machine (coin operated), a tumble dryer(coin operated) guests' use. There is also a communal BBQ area with picnic tables scattered around the grounds for every one's use.

Most guests prefer to bring their own sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. You can rent linen through our housekeepers, who will make up the beds before you arrive and strip them again when you leave. You can get in touch with them via their web site www.pebblesofsalcombe.co.uk/linen.php . All 5 beds come to about £53 for the week.

Each bed has a mattress with a cover, duvet, pillows & a number of blankets are available.

The kitchen is reasonably stocked with pots, pans, utensils, crockery & glasses

Getting there, parking & keys: Driving from towards Hope Cove from Galmpton, you will pass a large 'Hope Cove' sign with a picture of a bike & a parent/child. Just before you enter the built up area, you will see a sign on the left for 'Inner Hope' (left) and 'Outer Hope' (straight on). Turn left immediately after this sign into the car park area. The spaces are available on a first come first served basis. There are enough spaces for a car for each cottage & there is also parking available on the grass by prior agreement.

Walk down the steps in the bottom right-hand corner of the car park, towards the buildings & turn left at the bottom towards the laundry room. Then turn right down another flight of stairs to the cottages. They are clearly marked with slate signs 1, 2 & 3 Brook Cottage.

At the bottom of the stairs is a water butt, next to which are three key safes which are clearly marked. We will send you the codes upon receipt of your final payment.

Things to do: Along the South Devon Coastal Path going West is South Milton Sands with its limestone arch (NT). Thurlstone Sands is only a 30 minute walk away (even with a buggy), with beautiful beaches & an 18 hole golf course.

A few miles further on, Bantham and Bigbury are both wide beaches, popular with windsurfers & swimmers. At low tide Bigbury beach connects to Burgh Island & its cozy 'smugglers' pub dating from 14th Century. There is a little cafe by the beach selling tasty organic produce from sustainable local farms within a 15 mile radius.

Going East along the South Devon Coast Path , towards Salcombe, will take you past a restaurant with a Pirates playground at Bolt Head & about 2 hours later onto the Overbecks National Trust property at South Sands Beach in Salcombe.

Salcombe is full of boutique shops, Jack Wills, Fat Face, lots of coastal shops. The Victoria pub has a brilliant garden with chickens and a playground ( and Sky Sports) a great way to spend a few hours on a Sat.

A family of five, growing faster by the day. Our children are between 6 and 11.

This year we moved to Chicago because of work, and have the properties managed by my niece in London and Pebbles of Salcombe locally.

I manage the bookings and payments on a daily basis.

If you want to Skype or talk on the phone, let me know and I will call you.

Luke Mutter purchased this cottage in 2008

We bought these cottages as a legacy for our children and our family, and to offer us a place by the sea when we needed it. Our vision was to have all cottages full whenever we were there, or just have us on our own for some private time.

The beauty is that you could have three families of 6 for a weekend or a half term break, and have your own kitchen each - and, when everyone does a course for dinner you can each have your own space for bath time and dinner prep.

I used to camp just outside Hope Cove 30 years ago with my family and remembered fantastic holidays on the beach. In the 6 years we have owned them, we have never looked back.

The properties have rented well, have wonderful feedback, the local team manage, clean and maintain them well, and we are always delighted when we catch a last minute break.

Try it!

We fell in love with the garden, the proximity to the beach, and the ability to have other families join us for the weekend or the week in the other cottages. Families with new children will love the cottage because they are so easy to get in and out of. You can cook or wash up and watch the kids playing in the garden. Six years on, and our children spend hours on the beach which means they always sleep for 10 to 12 hours a night when we are here.

Try it!

Perfect Family Stay

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed with two young children (under 6) and found everything we needed. The cottage was clean, bright and with all mod cons. The access to the large garden enabled the children to play safely (and make friends with neighbours!) and there was short distance to the local (sandy) beaches.

We combined beach time with tourism to fantastic local sites and checked out the local (highly recommended) pubs and restaurants.

We were grateful for Luke's note re the tv - there was usually no signal, so bring DVDs if you fancy - but there was a great choice of books if you didn't (we did bring stuff for the children tho'). We also admit to using the little heaters (thoughtfully provided) in the evening just to take away the chill (this was April!)

All in all, a fantastic stay (helped by the great weather) and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the cottage and it's facilities. The children had a great time - which means we did too!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much; we are working to improve the TV reception - those Devon hills make good clotted cream though!!

Marvellous time had by all.

  • 5 out of 5
Such a lovely little bolt hole (No.2) for our family (2 adults and 2 kids) - we also had friends in No.3 and in the properties above Brook Cottages. The decor was fresh and light, beautiful and safe garden including a much appreciated trampoline.

Less than 5 miinutes walk from the beach, life couldn't be simpler. Definitely one for us to return to in years to come.

Thanks!

What a great time we had!

  • 5 out of 5
We had a short break in cottage 1 with our 6 year old, 2 year old and granny. The children loved exploring the holiday home and the outside garden with its flowers and wildlife. As adults we found the property clean, modern and well presented - just how we like it! Arriving after a school day we had a great time in the local pub where the children enjoyed chicken and chips in a basket topped up with only a short walk home using thier torches. The weather was kind to us which meant exploring the beach, rockpools, local gift shop and sampling ice-creams on the Saturday. We had a fantastic time in a fantastic area where we felt that our children were safe. We will definitely visit again and Granny has already booked for next weekend to return with her friend! Thank you!

Great area to stay

  • 5 out of 5
We stayed in no 1 Brook Cottage with our 2 teenage sons. The cottage is in a lovely setting and the view of the hills beautiful.
The cottage is beautifully decorated and our sons were particularly keen on the cosy blankets that were also provided in the seating area so you could wrap yourself up - I thought it was a very welcoming and thoughtful addition (especially given our recent summers!). The beds were comfortable and the duvets and pillows all looked very new and clean. The kitchen had everything you could want and the wooden kitchen table was perfect for sitting around.
The weather during our stay was not brilliant but there was plenty to do - we enjoyed the fireworks at the Hope Cove festival, managed a day at the beach at nearby Bantham which is good for surfing, the surrounding hills certainly provide a challenging run but great views, and the coastal path obviously provides wonderful walks.
The owners provided a detailed manual giving advice, places to visit etc. which is very useful.
We loved the area and would certainly go back again - we were sad that we didn't see the badgers.

We had a lovely short break in no. 1 Brook Cottage. It was well equipped, comfortable and homely. Our children loved the outside space and it is only a short walk to some lovely beaches, making it a perfect holiday for families with small children. We will deffenantly be returning again.

Winter Stay

  • 5 out of 5
We had a lovely peaceful stay at the start of January to beat the Winter Blues and recover from Christmas and New Year festivities.
The cottages were very easy to find and in a great location. The help sheets supplied by Luke were really useful and provided all the information required for a restful and stressfree stay as well as making sure we were well aware of what to expect in terms of remote location and lack of connection with the outside world!
The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed and was obviously well maintained.
Thanks for a great stay.

Our cottages are just 400 meters from two award winning, family friendly beaches & a small, uncommercialised village. There is a local post office / village store, several hotels (all of whom cater for non residents), beach side cafe, a restaurant & a pub. The harbour master & his wife will help to launch small boats & give advice about routes & conditions. Fisherman still use the harbour to land fresh catches on a daily basis. There is a small art studio & one of the few remaining places to see wicker lobster pot weaving. Food shopping is in the nearby Kingsbridge or Salcombe and the nearest city, Plymouth is only 40 minutes drive. There is much to see & do locally including adventure parks, National Trust properties and gardens, steam trains, river trips, zoo and wildlife centres, a magnificent aquarium, walking, sailing & riding. Dartmoor National Park is a short drive away & the yacht scene in Salcombe (4 miles) provides boutique shopping & a stunning location to visit & relax in

Unhelpfully, this web site tries to work out a nightly rate for shorter stays. Please ignore and get in touch with me for details. Thanks.
