Guestbook comments from the owner
Hi Bren and Paul

Just to let you know we had a fantastic weekend. The house is just amazing, I knew it would be gorgeous, just never expected it to be so big. The weather was fantastic, the kids were out from 7.45 on Friday morning, and were still on the go at 7 that evening, We went to Kenmare on Friday, which was beautiful. Saturday we got the kayaks out and were out for the entire morning. All tired today and the hour less yesterday didnt help.

We were all convinced we were going to win the lotto on Saturday night, and we had made up our minds that we werent leaving if that was the case....it didnt happen!

Thanks a million again

Fantastic location for a large family holiday, with genuine separate space for 4 couples. We had a fantastic time using all the great features: barbecue on terrace, cooking in great well-equipped kitchen , kayaking on the bay with seals, slumbering with books in the lounge, watching films in the TV room, lazing in spa bath tub, walking into restaurants and pubs in glorious weather, and playing golf. Heavenly!

Perfect House for a vacation in a nature paradise

  • 5 out of 5
Our party of six can only say - fabulous! Based upon the online pictures the house was more than we expected. The four bedrooms were spacious and well equipped. My husband and I (the seniors of the group) enjoyed a large bedroom with separate patio which was to the back of the house, giving us solitude and privacy. The other two ground-floor bedrooms, as well as stairs to upstairs bedroom (which was large and offered spectacular views over the bay from its dormer windows) are all close to the kitchen/ outdoor patio area, the hub of the house.

The gardens were lush, the outdoor patio and grill were put to work on most evenings, although we also enjoyed the raised and glassed-in upper patio. The trampoline and kayaks were a hit - we all enjoyed rowing around the area, approaching the seals, tipping over into the water for a cool-off.

We mostly ate at 'home', glorying in the quiet and the view of the bay. We did our shopping either at the unbelievably well-stocked and friendly Spar in Glengarriff (great for picking up sandwiches before a hike but also for 'you-name-it' little items such as candles for a birthday cake!)) or in Bantry, which has everything. Our Glengarriff restaurant of choice was the Martello.

Some unlisted features of the house:
- The separate internet room. The wi-fi allowed access from all over the house, but this extra room was quiet and separate and perfect should someone have some serious on-line sessions in mind, or just wanted to have a direct connection.
- The separate TV room was not overly used but was on occasion a sanity-saver, a place where two teenagers could disappear into the giant bean bags and watch a DVD.
- The 'laundry room' was on the ground floor, nicely ensconced behind hallway double doors, it was eminently convenient and at the same time invisible.

We are hikers so we were looking for something more than the lovely walks in the nearby national park, which, by-the-way, we also enjoyed. The Bera Way was a bit elusive and also too much inland; we didn't want to loose sight of all that water. We discovered Bere Island, which offers breathtaking hiking (wear good hiking shoes and take water) best starting with the ferry from Castletownbere. Once across, head for the lighthouse and keep on going for a hike of any length you choose (we walked for about 3 1/2 hours then looped back to our starting harbour but there are many options available). You walk through a nature paradise and views of the

Beautiful and large home

  • 5 out of 5
A beautiful and well designed home that facilitated 4 couples. All bedrooms were ensuite, which made for privacy among the couples. The kitchen was fabulous and allowed plenty of room for 8 people to help cook. We enjoyed watching the seals from the spacious windows in the back of the house. We were only 5 min. from the shopping area, and it was a short drive to the main road. We enjoyed sightseeing, going as far as Blarney Castle the week we were there.

'Exactly what it says on the tin'

'Exactly what it says on the tin'

I organised a break for a number of family members, children's ages ranging from 6 to 14 years and my Mum. This house delivered on all fronts: the most beautiful view over Glengarrif bay, seating both indoor and outdoor where you can relax and take in the scenery. The use of the Kayaks, with full compliment of wet suits & life jackets for all, provided a great start to our day, then back up to the well equipped spacious kitchen for breakfast. We dined in a lot due to our numbers, again, plenty of dining space and a lovely relaxing living area to enjoy a game of 'Boggle'. Nicely positioned within walking distance of the village. Enjoyed an evening outside Harringtons bar. Dining out is fine, think you would have to travel to neighbouring towns for something that would be worth the price. This area though is a great base to explore west Cork and Kerry, local Garnish Island a must and if the weather is good a trip to Zetland Pier ( bit of a trek but nice little rocky beach/pool), I did a lot of running, and the views are spectacular, again local Reserve worth the visit. Other places to visit, Lough Hyne, Baltimore, Mizen Head, Barleycove Bay, Healy Pass and Kenmare to name but a few. Noreen will meet you when you check in, and she is very charming and accommodating.
Would certainly recommend.

Luxury with great views

  • 5 out of 5
A beautiful house in a fabulous location, minutes to town and central for touring. Great part of the country for sight seeing.

House is very large with stunning views that can be enjoyed from a variety of locations on the property. All rooms were done to a high degree and included everything needed.

Highly recommended.

The house is 1 km from the famous village of Glengarriff, which is 20 km west of Bantry, 30 km east of Castletownbere and about 20 km from Kenmare. Glengarriff itself is a wonderful village filled with good restaurants, craft shops and several traditional Irish pubs offering complimentary traditional entertainment at night. The entrance to Glengarriff Harbour is guarded by the world famous Garnish Island with its tropical gardens. There are boat trips to the island every twenty minutes during high season. The whole area is highly influenced by the effects of the gulf stream current which gives this area a sub tropical climate, indeed the house has both Bananna and Olive trees in the lush gardens. Another attraction 100 meters from the house is the Bamboo park, a botanical and horticultural paradise. Glengarriff is also home to the largest harbour seal population in Ireland, the seals can be viewed from the house or from the many nature walks within the village boundaries.

Golf: We have two golf couse's in the immediate area, Bantry Bay Golf Club which is open to visitors and is a Cristy O'Conner Jr. designed park land course with 14 of the 18 hole's having spectacular view's over Bantry Bay. The second course is Glengarriff which is a 9 hole park land course with spectacular view's over Glengarriff Harbour. The club president is the film star Maureen O'Hara who can often been seen in the club house or down in the village of Glengarriff.

There are a further 3 course's with in about 20 km of Glengarriff.
