An Amazing Find

  • 5 of 5

The details of the apartment are very accurate from the contents to the location description. It is so well maintained and in an immaculate condition. You are met by the manager ,who fully explains the working of everything and leaves a contact number in case you have any issues. The apartment is so accessible ,for the beach ,shops, train bus and taxis .There are plenty of bars and restaurants to suit all price ranges and diets ,I am vegetarian and can always find choices. The views from the balcony are indeed stunning and it is so lovely to watch the boats ,the market or just the time of day. There is something quite unique about the apartment ,in that you don't feel it is a holiday apartment ,but more of a home ,due to all of the facilities and equipment within. I would really recommend this apartment ,we have stayed there twice now and have just booked up for a third visit.

Delightful 3 weeks at La Barcasse

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our two week stay at La Barcasse last year so well that we returned this year for 3 weeks. It's a charming, well equipped and located apartment. We didn't feel the need for a car during either of our stays. It's a short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and the train station should you want to venture out of town. Perhaps the best recommendation we can give is to say that we are hoping to return again next Summer.

Owner's Response: Guests return to Villefranche time and time again and love this apartment..... The location really is second to none and we are looking forward to welcoming more of you next year. I am sitting on the terrace writing this on a gorgeous sunny day. It is the 1st of November and I will be off to the beach later. Pity that I have to go back to London next week ..... Winter time is also great here as Villefranche has a micro climate. Hope to see you soon. Mattie

La Barcasse

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at La Barcasse for three weeks at the beginning of May 2012 and found it ideally suited to our needs. The apartment is located very close to the water in the old town of Villefranche and looks down on the Cocteau chapel, onto restaurants & onto a small market that gathers almost daily to cater to passengers brought in on tenders from giant cruise ships that moor out in the deep water bay.

The apartment is compact and newly renovated -- including the kitchen and bathroom -- with most everything one needs for daily living. A proper chef's knife would have been welcome. There is a (small) supermarche quite nearby up the hill along with a bakery and green grocer so that basic shopping needs are readily met.

There are many restaurants to choose among. Walks in both directions (toward Cap Ferrat & around the Citadel) are a pleasure. Citadel is remarkable and has 3 small museums.

It is most convenient to visit La Barcasse without a car as parking would be a problem and the bus service, though crowded, works well to visit Nice, Cap Ferrat, Monaco, Menton, Vence and Eze. Nice merits several visits. The 100 & 81 buses run along the Bas Corniche but to reach Eze you need to take the 80 bus to change at the Moyenne Corniche. Views from both corniches are amazing. The train is less crowded and recommended to travel to Monaco or Menton to avoid standing on the bus. Also the train is the way to get to Cannes. Views from the train are less amazing.

We were lucky with the weather except for a few days and, therefore, overall enjoyed our stay greatly.

Lovely apartment with exceptional views over Villefranche bay - Clean well kept complex, quiet & secure- easy walking distance for town and restaurants.

Pool is up a few flights of stairs away from our apartment but as the sea and beach were so nice we never used it.

lovely area ideal for all ages well "centred" for visiting Nice, Monte carlo & Italy.

Public transport is good though we used a car out of choice.

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

The description and photos are a true reflection of this lovely apartment and views. We were two couples and the facilities were ideal for us and the location great.

We were provided with such good customer service, from the moment I made the enquire, Mattie rang and emailed to put our minds at rest and offer valuable advise and then upon arrival Sue showed us around, pointed out where everything was, gave directions to the best suppermakets, restaurants, bus and train information, we wanted for nothing.

We all hope to return next year and I have already recommended this apartment to all my friends and work colleagues.

All that is left to say is thank you we had the very best time and Villefranche is beautiful.

Oh I should just mention we were there for the Grand Prix which was also great!

Car: not necessary

Villefranche is situated 4km from Nice Centre and 7km from Nice International airport. A well kept secret as it retains it's charm due to lack of major hotels nearby. You can happily spend all your time in the Village discovering it's wonderful history and why artists such as Jean Cocteau and Sommerset Maughan loved this area so much. In the 60's the music of the Rolling Stones could be heard across the bay as they had a villa on Cap Ferrat. Yet the village still retains it's authentic feeling. If you do wish to venture forth, the train which is 7 mins away runs all along the coast. Nice or Monaco are ten mins away or you can be in Italy (Ventimiglia) in 40 mins. The village of Eze is 20 mins by car or St Paul de Vence, Cannes and Antibes about 40 mins. A car is not essential and the walks here are fabulous. This is the best location on this fabulous coast by far. And if you are here to attend the French language Institute, Institut Francais it is just five minutes walk away!

Golf: Golf: There are several golf courses nearby.

Ski: Ski: Skiing is good from November onwards and is 70 km away.
