Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in La Palma
Self-catering, traditional canarian house with woodburning stoves.
If your idea of heaven is peaceful tranquility in natural surroundings with comfort, luxury linens and quality fittings - you will find it here. The Orange Tree House is a renovated Canarian house with vaulted wooden ceilings. A detached 2 storey retreat, set in a private garden with fruit trees, terraces and sea views. Within ten minutes walk of Puntagorda village with local bars, restaurants, shops, bank and weekend market The new, public open-air swimming pool (open in summer) is only a few minutes walk away.
The sunny breakfast terrace is a great place to plan what to do (or not to do) for the day. Sit in the shade of the grape-vine terrace and drink your freshly squeezed orange juice with fruit straight from the tree (in season)
The vineyards next to the garden grow grapes of delicious local wine. Enjoy the evening sunset with a bottle or two and watch a million stars come out.
Wifi here. The Orange Tree House was listed as a top ten retreat on Holiday Rentals in 2010.
Holidaying with friends? The Orange Tree House is situated just below El Sitio (also advertised on Holiday Rentals) so if you enjoy holidaying with friends but also like to have your own space then it may be possible to rent the two houses together.
Although it is almost a year since we visited La Palma, there isn’t a week going by without a warm flashback of our stay at the Orange Tree House. We loved sitting on the little bench in the orchard in the morning, listening to the birds celebrating the start of the day and smelling the blossom of the almond trees. We enjoyed relaxing in the long-chairs on the terrace in the afternoon, feeling the sun warming our bones and looking at the view of the little barranco. And in the evening we ended the day in the chairs on the balcony, seeing the sun disappear in the ocean and listening to the crickets welcoming the night. With all this elements the Orange Tree House composed a beautiful relaxing song of La Palma.

Owner's Response: As an owner, what lovely words to hear a year after your visit.
We have been busy on the land since you were here and have planted mango, citrus, plum, fig and avocado trees. In the garden we have frangipani, jacaranda, jasmin and stephanotis. So pleasant scents and fruit to gather when, hopefully, you return!
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to send your review.
What a beatiful house and location! We spent 2 weeks, of which 1 was chilly and rainy. Luckily the house offers great comfort both outside and inside. The Orange Tree House is the best place to find peace in a cosy and friendly village. With a car you can reach the whole island relatively easy. The tranquil beach front of Puerto Tazacorte is only 35 minutes away to catch some sun and eat fresh sea food, some fine restaurants nearby and for hiking you can just close the door behind you and walk up or down the mountain. Other points of interest are mostly within a 1 hour drive. The personal contact with and service by Hazel who lives in the same village (Puntagorda) adds to the experience of feeling welcome and "coming home". I'd definitely go back there again...

Tourists without a Car,
Orangetree House was our honeymoonholidayhome for a week in the middle of February. We expected a nice cosy and quiet place judging by the website. What we got was a peaceful spot with a beautiful view over the valley and the Atlantic Ocean, wonderful weather, almond trees in bloom, a real orangetree in the garden, a warbler's nest in it, birds that woke us up at 8.30, wonderful walks, a sweet little village with a farmer's market on Saturday and some nice little restaurants in the neighbourhood. The house itself was nice and clean, we gelt at home right from the start and it gave us the feeling of belonging there. In short we thought it the most peaceful place on earth!

Owner's Response: Hola Ellen and Roelof,
Thank you for your comments. How happy we were to find out you had chosen The Orange Tree for your honeymoon! I'm so glad you found that it met the standard you were expecting from our website.
I sometimes stand in the sun, on the edge of the terrace, looking out to sea and feel like the luckiest person in the world!
Sincere best wishes for your future happiness together.
The Orange Tree is a lovely house, we felt home at once.
The furnishing is quite tastefull and luxury.
But most important is the plot of land you get with it. There are many nice seats around the house.
Flowers, trees and lots of canaries and ofcourse a beautiful view over the ocean .
The fresh air from the ocean, and the quietness.....
We miss it already !

Set on the edge of a small ravine looking down to the sea, this is a truly away from it all location. The house has lots of character with wooden floors and shutters, a great balcony to the bedroom and large bathroom with lots of fresh towels and a well equipped kitchen, we made good use of the electric juicer to squeeze the oranges from the tree outside the bedroom door.
The garden is also great, we had breakfast on the terrace most mornings whilst watching the resident lizards and birds and there's falcons and choughs flying over all the time. They was having an unusual cold spell while we was there so we made good use of the wood provided for the burner and we even toasted some chestnuts that we had collected at the same time.
The locals are the friendliest spaniards we have ever met, they always say hello and are happy to help, make sure you know some spanish as virtually no one speaks english. The village Spar shop stocks everything and the weekend market has lots of fresh produce, meat, crafts, wine and yummy cakes.
Take plenty of books and your walking boots as that is it, if you want shops or entertainment go into Los llanos or El paso about an hour away or Tazacorte 30 minutes for the beach. There's a few restaurants in the village but La Muralla twenty minutes away on the main road is excellent and only 1 euro for a glass of wine, cheaper than coffee.
This property is wonderful, comfortable and clean with lots of local walks, we would definately recommend it to lovers of culture and nature. A head for heights is required as some of the roads are a bit hair raising in the mountains, but worth it. We only met Rob and Hazel, who was managing the property briefly, they seemed really lovely and it would have been nice to chat some more to find out more about the area.

The Orange Tree House can be whatever you want it to be, a relaxing private retreat away from the world or a base for hill walking and exploration.
Puntagorda village hosts the almond blossom festival in February when the landscape is transformed by trees covered in pink blossom.
This western corner of the island is green and beautiful and, we think, has the best climate on the island!
Less than an hours drive takes you to the mountain top where there are futuristic silver observatories above the clouds.
For a completely different day out visit Los Llanos town - stylish, lots of shops, fascinating buildings, many street cafes and a town square with enormous old trees where you can sit and people watch while you enjoy your coffee.
Tazacorte is the nearest seaside resort with a beach, swimming and a variety of restaurants. But, not forgetting the Puntagorda seaside- at 650metres above sea level we are a long way up, but it's possible to drive most of the way to the rocks by the sea and see some amazing local summerhouses built into the cliff face on the way. For exercise enthusiasts, we have an open air swimming pool, less than five minutes walk away, which is open in the summer months.
Local restaurants, and the village centre are within walking distance.
