Guestbook comments from the owner
We really enjoyed staying in your country villa. Everything was very clean, comfortable and well stocked. Every time we went out for the day, we couldn't wait to get back to the villa to sit outside with some wine and watch James jump in and out of pool. Lovely, relaxing place. It was especially nice to have some food there to hold us over until we were able to find the supermarket!
Thanks again for making our stay so enjoyable. We will definitely recommend your villa to friends.
Our plan to move abroad was first mooted during a family discussion while celebrating the advent of the new millennium. At first we considered staying close to home and researched properties in northern France. We soon travelled further south however, in search of that precious combination of space and sun. Once we started to look in Italy, our mind was made up. Italians are surely the happiest people on the planet and we were welcomed like family, everyone being eager to share tips and experiences as we started to find our feet. We now feel perfectly at home here among our small, supportive community of Italian friends and neighbours.
Our villa is on a hilltop overlooking Ostuni and the the Valle D'Itria. The property had been lived in until the 1960s and was in need of major renovation. Fortunately, the nephew of the owners was now an architect and he shared our vision of an authentic renovation but using modern materials. The old trullo for example was used as a 'palmento' - a room where grapes were pressed and the juices stored for wine-making. All of this was lovingly preserved and is now a popular feature of the house. We were keen to preserve the old traditions too and now include almond and olive harvesting among our autumn routines. This local produce is on display in the villa and makes the ideal gift for friends. We may not be able to identify precisely the exact trees of origin, but we can certainly guarantee that everything is home produced.
Being on a hilltop, we do not suffer the sometimes oppressive heat of the Summer months and instead enjoy a unique micro-climate where warm Spring and Autumn weather combines with the hot Summer to give a long season for holiday visitors. The villa is secluded and tranquil (we offer yoga holidays too !), yet is near enough to local facilities so as not to be isolated. The nearby village of Casalini for example, boasts 3 small mini-markets, a bar, a post office, a petrol station and most importantly, 3 superb restaurants, each of them offering a different dining experience. Most guests will spend the first few days of their holiday relaxing by the pool before venturing out into the great wide world of Puglia. We provide advice and suggestions and regularly book restaurants and guided tours for our guests, all at no extra cost as we are keen to make your stay as enjoyable as possible without of course being over-intrusive. Because we value your privacy, we do not live on site during your stay, so that you can enjoy the full, peaceful holiday experience with your friends and family. We are of course only 15 minutes away should you need us and you can call us on the house mobile phone provided. We look forward to welcoming you to Puglia.
