Overview

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Looe - Museum Apartments

One bedroom, self-catering, beach-side historic apartment.

You couldn't get closer to the beach in Looe unless you sit on it. This self-catering, one bedroom holiday home in Cornwall has everything you need for a romantic holiday or short break. Take your wallet, partner and shoes if you are planning on walking further than the glorious sandy beach. You will find everything else you need for a perfect vacation in the restored Cornish fisherman's cottage. The massive Georgian stone walls will keep you will be cool in summer, warm and cozy in winter. Forget the car and spend time walking the coastal paths to Polperro and beyond, visiting St George's Island or just browse the small independent shops. Watch the fishermen bringing their catch to market at high tide while enjoying your fish and chips. Eat in one of the many highly acclaimed restaurants or enjoy a pint and some shanty songs. Get to know how friendly the locals really are. At night time you may just catch the sound of the waves breaking on the beach at high tide, but nothing else.

South Cornwall: South Cornwall - reckoned to be Britain's most beautiful and interesting coastline - is a land of steep wooded rocky chines which lead inland from the sea along stream and river valleys. Villages spill down these craggy inlets to the water where there is often to be found an old fishing harbour, always massively defended against the rolling Atlantic winter storms, and in today's more gentle political climate usually home to yachts and fishing boats, rather than the sea-reivers, smugglers and wreckers of yore.

Mewing buzzards ride ladders of air above the craggy igneous Cornish landscape, as farmers work their herds in what is the balmiest climate in the British Isles, due to the gentle wash of the Gulf Stream along its shores.

Local history: The local history is rich: the Spanish Armada may have failed in its mission, but South Cornwall saw the only successful invasion since William the Conqueror when the Spaniards briefly invaded the county. The little-known Stannary Parliament at nearby Liskeard, which gave the tin-miners a large degree of self-rule, last sat in 1572, and the picturesque and haunting ruins of tin-mines still dot the uncompromisingly rugged but utterly beautiful landscape. The 'Cornish Alps' are testimony to the once-great china clay industry, and stories of the sea - lifeboat heroes, sea-going villains and naval battles - dominate this once-remote region. Surfing, crabbing, shark-fishing, lobster-fishing and scuba-diving are now the main activities in waters where revenue-men and smugglers and units of the Royal Navy and Napoleon's fleet once contended with cutlass and cannon.

About Paul Newson

My wife and I run this small holiday business from our home office just outside Bath. We own all

the properties we let and that currently includes two cottages in beautiful Freshford near Bath; one

one bedroom cottage just outside Bath and The Old Museum in Looe, Cornwall.

We have designed the business on our own experiences of travelling and staying in holiday

apartments. Here are our main principles:

• Be as responsive as possible to any email communication from the customer. We try to

answer all emails within the hour.

• Offer interesting, historic buildings in a beautiful and relaxing environment.

• Offer locations that work well without a car.

• Try to make the properties as close to a “home from home” as possible.

• Work hard to keep the standard of maintenance as high as possible.

• We pay a bonus to our housekeeper if the words “spotlessly clean” appear in a review.

• Make the business of booking as simple and straightforward as possible.

• Trust our guests.

• Provide enough information to enable guests to find the property easily.

• Make the check in as simple as possible.

• Provide a stress-free holiday from beginning to end.

Paul Newson purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Paul Newson chose Looe

Sand Dune and Sand Martin are located over The Old Cornish Museum. They are nearly mirror images of each other with minor variations in the layout, décor and furnishings.

This apartment is for you if you enjoy:

being within one minute of beautiful sandy Looe beach.

a location two minutes from the shops, restaurants and pubs.

staying in an almost traffic free area.

the sound of the waves breaking on the sea shore.

a car free holiday.

a cosy and warm home from home

walking the coastal paths at any time of year

areas of outstanding natural beauty within walking distance

staying in a proper working fishing town with friendly locals

high speed wifi connection with download speeds of up to 35 MB

What makes this apartment unique

I have known Cornwall all my life and I chose Looe because:

It feels like a real place with a fishing industry and work outside the tourist and second home business. Most of the homes in Looe are occupied all year round so the pubs are lively on a Friday night and the Fore Street can have a buzz about it on a Saturday morning.

It is possible to arrive in Looe by train.

It not very far inside Cornwall shaving an hour or more off the tail end a long drive from up-country.

I chose this particular property because:

I loved the idea of being so close to the beach.

It was so quiet at night.

I liked the privacy of being one row back from the sea front.

I loved the thick solid construction and the history of the building.

I could see it working well for short Winter breaks.

I felt there was enough to do in the area to keep occupied for a week without using the car.

Cosy and intimate retreat.....

  • 5 out of 5
We had a lovely comfortable stay. Everything we needed was provided, even towels!
Even though the weather wasn't the best the accommodation was warm and we could batten down the hatches.
Great location for a base to explore Looe and further afield.
We would definitely recommend this lovely little place.

sweet little apartment

  • 5 out of 5
We arrived in Looe on Saturday night and found Sand martin quickly. The first thing I noticed was the lovely smell of freshly laundered sheets and the rest of the flat was spotless. After dropping our bags off we went in search of some saturday night fun in the local pubs and had a late bite to eat in Archie's. Early next day we awoke to the sound of herring gulls and began our week of walking the amazing coastline where we saw a great variety of birds in the changing tides, swimming in the little coves then eating and sampling Cornish beer in the local pubs Ye Olde Salutation and The Ship which does a fine pint of tribute. We also treated ourselves to a great meal in the Old Sail Loft. Sand Martin is just a few steps from the lovely, clean, sandy beach and we were able to go for a swim every morning (and often in the evening! ) Looe's a lively little fishing village and Sand Martin is the perfect place for a couple to stay.

Owner's Response: How wonderful that you were able to swim every day in Looe in September. In fact it is not widely known that September and October are the months when the sea is at its warmest.
I hope you will come again soon.

Amazing cottage right on the on the ocean!

  • 5 out of 5
Amazing quaint sea cottage right by the ocean and harbour offering day trips to the sea and Looe Island as well as across the West Looe. The resturants are very good and the museum, bookshop and arcade are a good source of entertainment. The cottage is also very central to surrounding attractions such as Polperro, Lands End, The Minamick Theatre, and Newquay.
We had a great honeymoon and it was all thanks to a great cottage!
Highly recomended!

Great place to stay. Very central.

We arrived and unloaded without any problems given how narrow the streets are but the directions were spot on. The Apartment was very clean and comfortable with every type of cooking appliance to hand for self catering. The location could not have been better right in the heart of Looe and every amenity needed just a stone throw away.We had a lovely stay in Looe for a week and it was nice to come home and relax in the apartment with home comforts. If you are looking for a nice clean place to stay then choose the Sand Martin.

The owner of this property Paul obviously prides himself on great customer service. His communications are excellent and booking the apartment was very easy. The property is very well equipped and well maintained..The location is very close to the sea front and local lifeboat station. All the towns restaurants and shops are just a few steps away. If your looking for a friendly ,relaxed location then Looe ticks all the boxes. We had a very pleasant stay in Sand Martin. Enjoy!

Fantastic location - lovely little bolt hole!

  • 5 out of 5
The apartment was clean and well equipped - with the exception of laundry facilities it had everything you could need. The location, whilst being so close to the beach, the harbour and the bars, pubs, restaurants and shops, was also quiet. There was no passing traffic and no late night revellers came past either. The seagulls were another story... take ear plugs if you're a light sleeper as the gulls are awake and shouting at about 4.00 am! Lol!

I have to say that the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on in a holiday home. The bed linen was of nice quality which was really nice. The towels provided were really welcome as they're such bulky things to pack.

We had a problem with the Wifi at first but a quick email to the owner and he helped us to sort it out almost immediately. Excellent customer service!

There is no outside space but because of the location this really isn't an issue. The apartment is just metres from the lovely beach and harbour area and we sat and watched the world go by from there.

Looe is really nice. It has a good honest feel to it and the local people were very friendly and helpful. There's some good eating to be had to suit all budgets at both pubs and restaurants and there are a couple of supermarkets (Co-op), chemists and banks as well as a variety of gift shops. The tourist information office was also very helpful.

We enjoyed some wonderful walks. The walk across the cliff tops from Looe to Polperro is worth the climb for the views but it is quite strenuous at times - particularly the long steep climb out of Talland Bay. We also caught the train to Liskeard and walked back through the West Looe Valley. Mostly level or downhill but it is 13 miles!

The apartment was a lovely little place and I would certainly go again.
