The main attraction of Olea House is its stunning 180 degree view of Lake Como. The house is a superb example of a restoration which is sympathetic to its surroundings. The former farmhouse blends traditional Italian style with contemporary features. The original stone structure has been retained and stone and wood are still the main components. The interior is both modern and functional. The garden, disturbed only by birdsong and hourly church bells, is a haven of tranquillity and relaxation; the private swimming pool as well as
the nearby tennis and basket ball court will ensure your complete enjoyment.
Everything is designed for the guests to feel comfortable and to make their holiday on Lake Como unforgettable. The house is located in the small village of Perledo, 2 miles drive from Varenna and 50 feet up a hill. Casa Olea takes its name from the 300 olive trees belonging to the property and every November there is an olive picking festival.
The location is incredible - perched on a hillside looking down to the Lake and as the property has huge sliding glass windows all the way across the front, the view is totally unobstructed. The village of Perledo is lovely too, all narrow little streets and steps and so Italian, it was just perfect. The local shop is really well stocked as well.
The property and its ground are incredibly stylish, and it felt like a real treat to be in such a superb place. It must have been designed by a fantastic architect and the interior design was great too. Underfloor heating was a nice touch, the pool was ultra swish..I could go on.
To put it simply, we cannot wait to go back.
We rented the house for the stunning views and to have an relaxing spot out from the main traffic - The location and view was absolutely amazing!
The house was well maintained, more or less new if you ask me. The bathroom had an beautiful natural stone interior and the whole place had an real Italian Loft feel into it, but with an Natural touch of Wood. The bed I would rate to top A class, not too soft as they normally are. The kitchen served our needs and the wi-fi did work as well ( I know, I should have not needed to use that! ). I also did like the secure carrage, easy drive in and the car was safe.
Back to the location. I might not be able to tell you all about that as one needs to go there and see for themselves, but what I can say is: This is one of the most nicest views one can find - If you want to wake up into the beautiful views and the fresh air of the mountains - I think this is for you! The house had an amazing pool where we had our lovely sunbathing even that it was end of August!
The Perledo / Varenna area provides all the needed tools for great holiday. The location is easy to reach. From Varenna one can take a boat trip to all over the Lago di Como - we really enjoyed the trip to Bellagio. Fantastic food can be found close by the Area - Varenna has very nice restaurants and near by little towns will serve you food that is hard to get anywhere else with decent cost - the manager and info cards did provide us enough and beyond info to find them well. If you do have the time, there is plenty of places to see and things to do - If you just want to calm down and relax - this is the location for that as well!
There is so many good things to say about this place - we really had an absolutely wonderful vacation here and I do hope that you will experience the same!
This was our second stay in Olea House. We have greatly enjoyed the two apartments that we have occupied. In May 2011 we stayed in the original ground floor barn with its fascinating domed stone roof. On this occasion we tried the central apartment [Verde].
When we first visited we likened the apartments to ' rural 17th century Perledo meets 21st century Italian chic design'. Those who have likened this to a UK Grand Designs conversion are absolutely correct.
The rooms are spacious, well equipped, the beds are extremely comfortable. There are amazing views over Lake Como and the infinity pool to Varenna by the lake and the far mountains of Italy and Switzerland from the huge panoramic glass windows. A grape vine grows over a pergola to provide shade to the downstairs accommodation to the Verde and Yellow apartments.
There is secure underground parking with a James Bond type lift to the apartment level.
The grounds are beautifully maintained with masses of Old English Roses in the summer and Lavender, Rosemary, Olive trees and a Sharon fruit tree - in flower in the Summer and in fruit in the Autumn.
There is an amazing village shop around the corner run by Adele, small but Tardis -like. The only food she doesn't sell is raw meat. Shopping there is a wonderful experience.
Perledo is situated on the edge of a vast expanse of forest with amazing Sweet Chestnut trees and beautiful wild flowers. The walks are right on your doorstep - its all steeply uphill but the views are phenomenal and returning is easy.
Varenna is 10 minutes away by car where you can catch a ferry to most places of interest on the lake; villas, gardens and more walking. Fishing in the lake is possible.
The bottom line of these apartments is that they are beautifully maintained, clean and comfortable. The owner couldn't be more obliging and helpful than she is. The local people make you feel welcome too.
We've noticed that someone was upset by the bells of the church striking the hour and half hour 24/7. When you realise that most Italian mountain villages have church bell systems like this to keep the pastoral workers advised of time. The notes of the bells rings clearly through the upland meadows and woodlands. When you are out walking in the mountains the sounds are beautiful and enhance the experience of walking. The sounds do not interfere when you are inside in the apartments.
To end, we'll be back and encourage others to visit too. We're very sorry to have to leave.
My wife and I spent our 30th aniversary in Lake Como area and we were lucky enough to have found this spot. We stayed in the Red apartment (top two floor on the furthest to the right). The view of Managio and the sunsets behind the mountains were outstanding. The ferries around Lake Como are very easy to use. We did long day hikes above Managio and Ballagio, a day drip into Switzerland. I drove up from Milan which is quite easy. Luciana was quite helpful and patient with me as I set up dates. I would highly recommend this property.
This was our first time to Lake Como and we had a fantastic stay at this apartment. We stayed in the Rosa apartment of this 4 apartment complex, the apartment was in a converted old building but very modern fittings and very comfortable. It is a little difficult to find at first but the amazing views of the lake and mountains more than make up for the effort of getting up to the village. There are some great walks around the mountains directly from the apartment. The gardens of the apartment are nicely landscaped and the pool is fantastic after a hard days sight seeing. Well worth the money, we would highly recommend it.
