The Andalucian village of Bedar, established by the Moors, is tucked away high in the Sierra de los Filabres. Its charm lies in its narrow streets, its white village houses adorned with blossoms, and its endless sunshine. There are 5 restaurants, a bank, a mini-supermarket, a general store, a doctor's surgery, a chemist and a large municipal swimming pool open during the summer months. Walking in the blissful quiet of the countryside is one of the joys of staying in Bedar, and this part of Andalucia is a haven for the tortoise, the crested lark, the wild boar, the ibix and the Spanish fox. There is nothing the Spanish love more than fiestas which appear at regular intervals throughout the year and you cannot enter the village without saying hola to everyone you meet. Bedar is 20 minutes away from the resort of Mojacar Playa and Mojacar Pueblo (Mojacar village) with its panoramic views. Nearby is the village of El Pinar, and small towns Los Gallardos, Turre & the fishing port Garrucha.
Golf: There are 4 golf courses within a short drive. Valle Del Este Golf, one of Spain's unique courses, is an 18 hole PGA course situated just outside Vera. This desert course with is island trees and fairways has some great changes of elevation making the course exciting to experience. Between Garrucha and Mojacar is Marina del Torre Golf. The 18 hole course design includes 3 lakes strategically situated and the wonderful views change throughout the course. Desert Springs Golf is situated between the reservoir at Cuevas del Almanzora and the charming fishing village of Villaricos. The springs, watercourses, dry river beds, rock, cactus areas and sand traps are strategically placed throughout the course. Desert Springs captures the essence of what it is that sets golf apart from other sports. Cortijo Grande Golf, once a farming estate, has been transformed into a 9 hole golf course, still abundant with oranges, lemons, grapes and figs. This is a very popular and challenging course.
