Luxury self-catering penthouse 5 minutes from the slopes

The Old Library is a tastefully renovated three bedroom apartment in the heart of Argentiere village, just ten minutes from Chamonix town.

The property, which is on the second floor, has been furbished and decorated to a high standard and is spread over two floors.

The first floor consists of:

Lounge / dining area with two sofas and table for six. A large flat screen TV linked to an Apple Mini Mac and BOSE sound system. WiFi internet throughout.

Fully equipped kitchen.

Double bedroom.

Bathroom with whirlpool bath and toilet.

The second floor is accessed via a staircase from the lounge and consists of:

The apartment has double height ceilings in the lounge with two large Velux windows which give it its light and airy feel.

The Old Library rental apartment is in the centre of Argentiere in the Chamonix valley close to the Grand Montets ski lift at the very foot of Mont Blanc Europe's highest mountain.

For skiers and snowboarders looking for high-quality accommodation, close to both the ski lifts and bars and restaurants, the Old Library rental apartment in Chamonix's Argentiere is a fantastic option.

The building sits right in the centre of the village between the Office du Tourisme / Marie and The Office Bar / Restaurant.

Super U supermarket is only 50m away as is the local boulangerie where fresh bagattes and croissants are available for breakfast.

Only 500m walk from the Old Library rental apartment is Grand Montets; a world-renowned ski area with lifts up to 3,400m. The upper section offers the most accessible off-piste skiing and snowboarding in the Chamonix valley.

Evolution 2 and ESF both operate ski schools from there. A good selection of ski schools are also found at the skiing areas of La Balme / Le Tour, Brevent and Les Houches, all of which are easily reachable by car or the free valley ski-bus system.

Mountain guides are easily found for those looking to ski tour or head off-piste with the 17km-long Vallee Blanche that descends from 3,900m at the the Aiguille du Midi to 1,000 and the valley floor, being highly popular.

Summer brings flocks of walkers, rock climbers and mountaineers to the area to climb on and around Mont Blanc itself.

Chamonix is also a popular area for paragliding and mountain biking with several sites dedicated to the sports.

Argentiere is 10 minutes by car to the Alpine town of Chamonix Mont Blanc. It sits at the base of one of the best ski areas in the region, the Grands Montets and is only 5 minutes from La Balme ski area.

The Grands Montets is the highest ski domaine in the region, at 3300m at the top station! It is a heaven with skiers and boarders alike.

Switzerland and Italy are both close by.

The infamous Vallee Blanche ski run which descends 17km from the top of the Aiguille du Midi to Chamonix is accessed by the Aiguilee de Midi lift just 10 minutes away.

The summer has plenty to offer with walking, hiking and mountaineering on your door step as well as paragliding, rock climbing, white water rafting and mountain biking.

"We had a lovely week in the Old Library in Argentiere. The appartment was very clean, warm and comfortable with all the equipment we required and more - never thought we'd need such a big telly, but we still used it! It was extremely convenient for groceries and ski hire, souveniers etc as the shops are 50m away. The walk to the bus stop was not too onerous either - about 5 mins. The welcome and administration was excellent. The only thing we'd like to recommend is some extra shelves in the kitchen area. Otherwise we had a super week and would definitely consider going there again."

Beautiful apartment with top-flight service from HomeAway. Nervous at first - so far away from home - but ended up being the easiest holiday I've ever planned. Argentiere magnificent, and HomeAway presents a seamless sign-up, payment, and key-transfer process! Best: totally safe and happy environment for my 4-year-old who (downside or part of his cultural education?) is now an insufferable cheese snob.

This appartment is extremely well fitted out and very comfortable for a family or group holiday in the mountains. Situated in the centre of the very picturesque village of Argentiere,next to the Marie, it is only a few yards from all the village ammeneties. Great supermarket and other small shops,tourist infomation, ski school office,,lots of ski rentals, medical services, restaurants and bars to suit all pockets. Should you wish to eat at home the kitchen in the appartment is very well equiped. The amazing public transport makes getting about the valley to all the ski slopes easy although the use of a car can be useful with small children.
We enjoyed our holiday so much in this appartment that we have booked again for February 2013.

All the comforts of home and more! Superbly furbished, clean and well-maintained. True to the description given. Close to the ski slopes for winter visitors and well situated for spring and summer hikes. Supermarket, bakers' and outdoor shops not five minutes away and Chamonix only 15 minutes drive. Regular buses and trains for people relying on public transport. Highly recommended!

Brilliant position and really nicely equipped

Great place: beautifully equipped with the Apple Mac, Wii and big TV with surround system.

Shops and bars all pretty much next door and the ski lift 5 mins walk away so its an easy holiday place without a car.

Management company were great and let us know they were there if we needed them, but didn't interfere. Apartment worked flawlessly anyway.

Would stay there again and thoroughly recommend it to others.
