Our group of 3 couples stayed in the downstairs apartment of Casa Caracol November 21-Nov 29. It was our first trip to Belize, and Ambergris Caye. Phil was very responsive to my emails during the months leading up to our visit. We had him book our flights from Belize City to San Pedro. He met us at the San Pedro airport as promised, and upon our arrival at the house he went over things we should know, which was very helpful. If you listen to his instructions you should have no problems. The house was very clean and inviting, and had everything we needed. We did not do any cooking, as many restaurants and roadside stands were inexpensive, easy and close. We were surprised to see golf carts and other vehicles driving on the beach in front of the house, though it really did not cause any problems for us. The bar next door was really nice... good food and cold beers at reasonable prices. It did get a little loud at night sometimes, so be aware if you are a light sleeper.
We used the 2 person kayak and Phil gave us some important instructions before we went to insure our safety.
Phil arranged a snorkel trip for us that was fantastic! He also arranged for golf carts when we were ready. He accumulated those charges and we paid him at the end of our stay, which was convenient. He was very responsive to any questions or anything we needed during our stay.
We had a lot of fun exploring and riding around on our golf carts. The beach was not the best for lounging, though that didn't stop us ;). We floated in our rafts right in front of the house, and there are lots of creatures to be found in the sea grasses. The locals are very friendly and helpful.
On our arrival, Phil greeted our party of 6 at the airport. First impression is everything. My impression of Phil was that he was going to be very helpful and pleasant to deal with. This remained true for the remainder of our stay. The house was clean, had everything we needed. The beach was not what I expected but we made due. The bar next door had great food and the owners were pleasant. The only downside was at times the noise at 3am was a little loud, but its all part of living next to a beach bar. Having golf carts was a blast to get around on. The locals were very nice and helpful. The grocery store right behind the house was an added bonus. The bakery a few blocks down the street was great. Though there were some things I didn't like about the island, like the trash laying around and the lack of soft sand beach, I had a great time with our family. Thanks Phil!!
This was our 5th trip to Belize. It was our first time with our children, ages 11 & 13. The location of this home was convenient to town, water taxis and a great beach. I counted the steps from the gate to the sea.....35:). We had groceries delivered which was well worth it. Phil arranged our golf cart, fishing trip, and a cook to prepare us a authentic dinner. He was very, very helpful. The sunrise and sunset are breathtaking from the porch. My only suggestion is to pack thick beach towels if you prefer them. Clean towels were delivered daily, but the beach towels are small by American standards. Overall, this was a fabulous experience. Thank you Phil!
We stayed at Casa Caracol the second week in March and it was absolutely perfect. There were 9 of us so we rented both floors of the house, and spent most of our time admiring the view and relaxing on the front porch. Casa Caracol has one of the best views on the island! It is unobstructed by boats or docks and consists of pure white sand, blue water, and beautiful palm trees. You can walk straight out into the water and find all sorts of cool shells, starfish, and colorful fish. The house looked just like the photos and was very roomy, comfortable, and clean. Laurie, the cleaning woman, was very kind and did an excellent job. The house is in a perfect, safe location and is in walking distance to a lot of fabulous restaurants, shops, and places to get homemade, Belizean takeout food. The house came equipped with AC (which you rarely need because of the amazing breeze through the windows all day and night), snorkeling gear, sea kayaks, lounge chairs, etc.
Phil, the owner, was extremely helpful and planned our flights to and from the island as well as all of our activities such as snorkeling, a lamanai mayan ruin jungle tour, golf carts, and more. We paid for everything with a credit card at the end which made things so easy. Phil was always available if we needed him for anything throughout our stay.
Best vacation ever thanks to Phil and Casa Caracol!
We just returned from a wonderful family trip to San Pedro. We stayed at Casa Caracol and rented the entire house. This was a family reunion trip for a group of 9 ranging in age from 19 to 63. We were traveling from Minneapolis, Omaha and Phoenix. Casa Caracol was absolutely the perfect place for our us! The house is just as it's presented online and in a great location. Close to town and right in the middle of the local activities. It was fun to meet some of the friendly locals and see the children going back and forth to school with happy smiles on their faces. The beach is beautiful, blue water, soft sand and perfect palm trees to use for hammocks. Phil and Marie were great from the time we booked our reservation until we left. They provided us with everything we needed and alot of information about Belize and San Pedro. They arranged taxis for us and set up a full day catamaran tour where we went north to Mexico Rocks, went swimming and snorkeling and had an awesome lunch prepared by the crew. We explored some of the local restaurants and found an especially great place, DJ's Bar & Grill, just a short walk down the beach. They have terrific sandwiches, especially the burgers, and great conversation with one of the owners, Drew. We also found a local chef, Reynaldo, that prepared an entire dinner for us. He did the grocery shopping and prepared barbeque chicken, rice and beans, homemade cole slaw and tortillas and sauce. All we had to do was sit down and enjoy!! Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed San Pedro and Casa Caracol and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation where you can really experience the "flavor" of Belize. The people in our group said, "this was the best family vacation ever". This is not a luxury resort, it is a clean, comfortable villa that has everything you will need to have a great stay, including owners that will bend over backwards to meet any of your needs. Two thumbs up!!
My family and I (6 adults, 1 baby) recently stayed in the downstairs at Casa Caracol and had a fantastic week!!! The house was perfect for us! The pictures represent it well. We cooked quite a bit and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The beds are comfortable and we slept well. The location is short walking distance to almost everything, but just far enough from town that it's not too busy. There's a good mix of locals and tourists in this area and we felt like we were part of the normal goings on of the town. Phil and Marie were great hosts and a wealth of information. We used Patojo's Dive shop for a couple snorkel and dive trips, went on a private sunset sail that Phil set up for us and mostly just relaxed. We brought a few toys for our 14 month old, but hardly needed them because he was outside most of the time. The beach is perfect for young kids. The water is calm and there's a nice shady spot over the water so I wasn't worried about sunburn all the time. Duly, the housekeeper, babysat for us a few times too.
Definitely ask about Rueben's ceviche (we had it about 5 times!) and the bakery at Casa Pan Dulce. We walked to the bakery almost every morning (which is not normal for this family of health nuts).
It was a fantastic vacation and I was sad to leave!! Thanks for everything Phil and Marie!
