My wife and I stayed at El Nido from March 10 to March 17, 2012. This is the third time we have visited Barbados and we have rented villas all in the same price range each time. We have rented villas in different countries (e.g. Costa Rica, Belize, St. Croix, etc) and find Barbados to be completely safe and it is easy to travel around the island and to get groceries. What we really appreciate is we get a permit to import meat and dairy products for personal use through the Department of Agriculture ($15 US, download from their website) so we can bring food with us. We freeze it before we go and put it in a small soft cooler and it's still frozen when we get there. For people from Ontario, we think of these trips as being like going up to a cottage except in the tropics.
Regarding the business arrangements, everything went smoothly, as they always have. The house, I think, was one of the nicest ones we've rented. It was quite big and had a Spanish feel. There was a nice big gas BBQ and nice pool loungers. The house manager was there when we arrived late at night and assisted us make some taxi arrangements and other day trip plans. The location of the house was convenient. It wasn't on the water, and we didn't care about that because we had the pool, but it was close to buses. We have rented a car on our previous visits, but this time we decided we would use public transportation, and it turned out to be fun. They have these little vans that cost $2 BBS and they cram as many people in as they can in and they drive fast.
I have no reservations in recommending El Nido.
