My husband and I run this vacation rental with my father. We have owned the house for many years but we decided to rent it out to people. The house has gone through many updates over the years and we have put a lot of time and energy to making it beautiful. We always try to make the house the way we would want it and keep up with the maintenance and cleaning by ourselves.
Alicia Reichlin purchased this estate in 1982
The house was built in 1917 for the president of Niagara Dry Goods. It had many owners over the years and my father and my grandmother bought the house 30 years ago. It was abandoned and left to freeze in the brutal Niagara Falls winters. When my father first walked in it was just a shell. It still had all of the original chandeliers, woodwork, fire place brass door knobs hardwood floors, etc. But it also had water and ice throughout the house, vines growing in the windows, the ceilings had come down and all of the wall paper was moldy. Every radiator and toilet had burst, everything had to be rewired and new pipes had to be put in. The sun porch had completely collapsed and the roof had to be completely rebuilt. Most people considered it a lost cause and said it should have been torn down. But my father saw it for what it was. It was a beautiful house that he knew of when he was a kid 40 years before, and delivered newspapers to as a boy. He knew what it had looked like and what it should look like. So he put his skills, and patience into it and slowly brought it back to life. Then in 2011 I began to have an idea. I wanted to make the house even better. So my father putting his skills to work once again, was able to take the ideas from my head as I wanted and put them into the house. I wanted blue skies and starry nights on the walls like canvas and together we made it work. Every room has it's own feel to it. Each space has it's own character. So now we are proud to present to our guests the finished product. The property also has a lot of historical value to it. We found out many political fundraisers and parties were held here and it is one of the few mansions left in Niagara Falls. We have had guests staying at our rental since June 26th 2011, and each year our business grows. We strive to put our guests needs and comforts first. We never hesitate to try and make our guests vacation more memorable.
The rental is conveniently located very close to the Falls. There is just a short walk 2 blocks and you are there. 2 blocks away from the country's oldest state park.
The owner and the manager live 2 blocks from the rental in case there is an emergency, or if guests need anything.
We really appreciated staying here. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. Everything was in perfect order and very clean. We enjoyed the very quick walk to the Falls, when you said short distance to the Falls, you weren't kidding. We all enjoyed our rooms, they were so beautiful and well cared for. This was our first time with a vacation rental, and we are so glad we made the right choice. We will recommend this house to all of our friends and family who are thinking of making the trip up here. Thank you.
I have to start out by thanking the manager and her family for letting us stay at there rental and for being so awesome. Secondly I want to tell every other future guest about how amazing this place was. For what we paid for this place we didn't expect to get as much included as we did. We were provided soaps, shampoo & conditioner, bath salts, and my wife even gotten dissolving bath rose petals that we have never seen before. Our children were happy to find toaster pastries and cereal provided for them and my mother in law used the pancake mix that was provided to make waffles. It was cold outside and sometimes old houses are a bit drafty and cold but not this one. The place was very warm and comfortable. We enjoyed our complimentary wine and sat in the living room catching up on things. My daughter and my niece were fascinated with the many dolls that are display in many parts of the house and they were a bit disappointed that they couldn't play with them but they got over it. LOL. I guess the doll collection belongs to the lady of the house (Alicia) and they add a nice touch to the decor. Each room has a different theme and is so well decorated and clean. The kitchen and bathrooms had everything we needed, paper towels, dish soap, linens, spices, etc. There was even a little kids table in the dining room for the kids to sit at during meals. We got to meet Alicia's son Jack and the children in our family played with him a bit and Alicia even brought down some of his toys that they put away when guests arrive. You rarely meet a host or hostess that is as warm and inviting as she was. She stayed at least an hour and told us about the house and previous owners, answered all of our questions ( as we had many) and showed us a guest information book that had EVERYTHING in it. When I say everything, I mean everything. Directions to bars, gas stations, liquor stores, restaurants, coffee shops, churches, emergency contact info, hospitals, grocery stores, shopping, even the most recommended places to eat and shop. You name it, it was in there. That is what I'm talking about when I say, we got waaay more than we expected with this place. The amount of time and hard work it takes to make a book like that, how clean everything was, we jokingly asked Alicia if she had OCD. Not to mention the gifts and breakfast, you won't find that anywhere. We will definitely be back, no question. You have to check this place out we had a wonderful time and you will too!
This place is really incredible! My husband and I have stayed here before with friends but this time we decided to have a get away with just the two of us and we knew exactly where we wanted to stay. It was cold outside and snowy, but that made it more magical. Standing in the kitchen looking out the window out at the wooded back yard with all of the snow on the trees was just breath taking. It reminded me of the lion witch and the wardrobe, wondering what magic awaited outside. LOL. Anyway, the house is very well taken care of and very clean. Didn't seem to be a spec of dust anywhere and the place was well stocked. The manager (Alicia) was just as friendly and helpful as she was before, but this time she had a little one with her. It was very nice to meet little Jackson. The house seemed a little more decorated than before, a lot more unique and beautiful things, including incredible paintings by Alicia's father on the walls. We also received a bottle of wine and some chocolates. The area around the rental also seems to be developing a little more since we were here last, counting 3 hotels being built near by. The Falls was even more beautiful during the winter with a lot of the ice and snow on and near the water. I would highly recommend this place, you won't find a more delightful place to stay or a more helpful and polite manager who was able to spend a little more time with us and tell us more about the house and everything that has been done to the place since we had last stayed. It is also very helpful that the manager lives right down the street so if we needed or wanted anything she was right there when we needed her. Thank you so much again Alicia and we are so glad that your home has blossomed into one of the best vacation rentals my husband and I have ever stayed in.
Wow!! I wish that could sum up the over all experience we had here. From the first moment we walked through the front door we were blown away. So well taken care of, so original to the time period it was built, and so spacious. I can see why the manager noted that younger children may not be a good idea for this place. A lot of items to break and so many original details to the house that cannot be easily replaced. Every room is so different and so beautifully decorated. All of the rooms were clean, especially the bathrooms, the manager even has the bathroom shelf and kitchen stocked with cleaning stuff. Our hostess was very nice and helpful. Surprising mature for someone who looks so young. She gave us directions, and info about the area. Recommended local restaurants and even left us a bottle of wine. My niece enjoyed collecting the little pouches of hershey's kisses that were left on our pillows. We had a wonderful time even though it was the dead of winter. Thankfully the distance is so short to the Falls from the rental because it was so cold outside. I would highly recommend this place, especially because it is so close to the falls.
We do a lot of traveling now that my wife and I are retired. We have stayed at many vacation rentals all over the world and this has to be one of my top 5 favorites. It wasn't just because the house is gorgeous and very well care for and clean, but also because the hostess ( Alicia) was so nice and helpful. She left us a bottle of wine and a small pouch of hershey's kisses on our pillows, she answered any questions we had about the area and the house. She gave us directions to local attractions and to the grocery store. My wife was also quite taken with Alicia's son Jack who was such a sweet heart. The house itself is so very conveniently located, only a short distance from the Falls, and there are a few restaurants within walking distance too. I would recommend Murphy's on 3rd. Very good food and coffee. It's amazing to see the amount of artwork on the walls done by Alicia's father Jim, and even the blue room and living room were painted by him. I would highly recommend this place, not just because of the convenient location, but because of the personal attention you get from the manager like she actually cares about you enjoying your stay and not just about getting your money. Secondly I would recommend this place because it is so well taken care of, well stocked, and CLEAN!! There are cleaning supplies in all of the bathrooms and the kitchen. I have also not stayed at a rental that provided so much, most of the time you have to bring your own linens, towels, etc. Thank you so much Alicia for making our vacation comfortable!!!
My husband and I enjoyed our thirty-fifth anniversary in this beautiful historic home. The interior of the home is full of early 20th century character--a grand staircase, woodwork throughout the home, triple French doors to the enclosed patio.
We slept in the master suite and the bed was very comfortable. Having a dressing room and bathroom as part of the suite was a nice convenience.
We enjoyed walking or biking to Niagara Falls (so close!) and found restaurants we enjoyed just a short walk away.
We have already recommended this home to our friends and home to return.
This was truly a wonderful find!! The house was in an excellent neighborhood. Easy walk to the falls and park area. The beds in this house are all so comfortable! We could not have picked a better place!! The management was wonderful and quick to respond to questions!
