Mike Ewing purchased this house in 2005
Love this area, love the Alpine Feel of this property without the extreme weather. Easy access to high sierras.
Very peaceful, the house is warm and friendly.
Not just a house to stay in but has a resort like feel, with absolute privacy. Neighboring houses are out of site.
great rustic canyon in the middle of everything! awesome place thank you mike! great grounds! epic scenery!
I rented this cabin for my birthday weekend. I wanted a place where I was surrounded by nature, lots of space, fun cabin games, ability to explore. This place had it all. We were a group of 15 people, and the cabin was perfect. Comfortable, lots of space to share, big living room area (we played hours and hours of Mafia in the living room! So great for a big group) and enjoyed the outdoors as well. It was raining for most of our stay there, but the house has great outdoor decks that are covered, so you can still play foosball, hang out, and enjoy the smell of fresh rain while on the deck. Owner was always available and attentive.
When it wasn't raining, there was plenty of land to explore. Outdoor Frisbee golf, horseshoes, hiking, pool table. We will definitely be returning to this hidden gem. Highly recommended for large groups. My birthday was made so wonderfully possible thanks to the Ewings!
My family stayed in this home for a weekend. It is located in a nice area and close to highway 88. The only disappointment was that there was only one roll of toilet paper in the whole house and the showers need to be cleaned. Very quiet area with lots of things to do close by.
We stayed there for two days. We were a group of eight people with 4 kids. The most fun part was to watch kids play outside in the 10 acre lot. Very secluded and private, so that gives you an extra comfort. Even though we did use the kitchen to cook, but it is not well furnished - but we were able to manage. In fact, that was also fun to "find" things. You would love to talk to owner, who was always available for use and very nice person to talk to. This is a great place to bring kids to, and let them enjoy the northern California. Great place to sit out on a huge deck overlooking the meadow/trees and just chit chat over BBQ and coffee. I would definitely do it again. I'd suggest future renters to do go out to nearby Mr. Beefy restaurant, Volcano downtown and Black Chasm Cavern. One thing you will immediately notice is the friendliness in this beautiful town.
Staying here gives you the feel of going camping but you have a washer, dryer, microwave, shower, dishwasher, oven, bathroom, tub, beds... There is a wonderful saloon style piano that we enjoyed. The best part is Mike, the host/owner. He is easy to talk to, super nice, helpful, and quick to respond to questions. His directions were really clear. Our kids loved the bunk beds and the campfire setup in the meadow/backyard. I would recommend this place for anyone who likes the idea of camping but doesn't want to have to pitch a tent or do too much of the work that camping requires. This home is not fancy, but it's comfortable and convenient.
We had a very good time at this house, with large group. Weather was excellent, even though there was no snow, it was a short drive up highway 88 to the snow. Large parking lot, huge territory, very private, excellent view from the porch.
Bear Valley Reservoir a great swimming, fishing lake surrounded by granite, kayak rentals. Consumnes river, tiger creek also great swimming. Kirkwood only a little over 30 miles. Awesome high sierra scenery and lakes a short drive away on a great low traffic road. the hiway 88 corridor is my favorite high sierra area because of the low traffic and the nice condition of hiway 88. Tons of hiking trails also.
