Why Tony Holt chose Portland

We wanted to live where we didn't need to use a car for anything, and we wanted to be close to everything we enjoy, from arts and entertainment to ocean going activities. And by Amtrak we can be in Boston is 2 hours.

What makes this condo unique

What we love the most is the feeling of volume in all the rooms, which are large and have 12 foot ceilings with a very cozy, quiet bedroom.

And living so close to all the wonderful restaurants both in our neighborhood and beyond... what can we say about all those wonderful restaurants...yum!

Location, parking, amenities, quiet, great owner!!

  • 5 out of 5
If you have an appreciation for tasteful, comfortable amenities, and want someplace not generic, tiny box apartment, where you can actually do more than sleep, like-entertain! or hang out, Tony and Deb's place is for you. Spacious, quiet, parking (small-ish), a private laundry/yoga room, and huge, full, kitchen and common rooms. Very high ceilings. Fantastic, private screened gazebo in back, then parking right in driveway, off South St! This home is in a real brownstone, OLD, tree-lined, brick side-walked, neighborhood where you can enjoy a families BBQ, then walk 2 minutes to Congress St and have fancy happy hour tapas, walk a block and fill your tank and junk food needs at the gas station or 7-11. Gourmet deli, awesome Thai food. Funky coffee shops, it reminded us of three towns we lived in and love: Ann Arbor, MI, San Francisco, and our beloved town now, the Other Portland, in Oregon. Had 2 gentle dtrs (9,13) with us, they used the two long, luxurious couches (silk, down?!), plus there's a great foam fold out bed/couch. It could work for a close and not exceedingly private foursome, or a couple needing to have lots of space and privacy, or one or two gentle kids (there's nice artwork). Very unique step down, deep jacuzzi tub, with a great shower. WiFi good, AC in bedroom terrific, ceiling fans perfect even in 85 degree heat wave. Tony very responsive to questions, and lots of great literature on area. Yeah, it may be becoming a little gentrified, but in a good way, I am sure. We all walked ALOT, at night, and it really felt safe. We are intrepid and friendly, and used to big city funky folks. We'll be back, for sure. (we even got cleaning fee returned, very decent!)dee

Great old brownstone with beautiful modern updates

  • 4 out of 5
Tony and Deb were very responsive during the rental experience and have a beautiful Victorian. The interior was plenty comfortable and inviting. It was nice to be shielded a bit from the street when using the outdoor lanai.

I rent a lot of homes/condo's for our personal travel. At first, it was odd being on vacation yet living amongst everyone elses daily activities. Once in the groove, it gave us a good experience of what it would be like to live in Downtown Portland. Congress Street is around the corner. We walked all over the city. I was surprised to see how many Asian restaurants were in the vicinity of the home.

All in all, it was a nice stay and well worth the price. Caution: there is a funky tub/shower set up that could be difficult for some. Tony/Deb should really share that with potential clients.

Great find!

  • 4 out of 5
If you're going to be in Portland for more than a few days, this is a perfect home base, close to attractions and great restaurants. With off street parking (in an area where availably parking can be tough to find) and lots of living space, the apartment is clean, spacious, comfy, and even has laundry facilities!

Beautiful, relaxing and superbly located!

  • 5 out of 5
We made our reservations at the last minute (the day before checking in) and were amazed by how helpful and communicative Tony and Deb were. Upon arrival, they gave us a tour and overview of the house and surrounding neighborhood. Additionally, they left plenty of very informative notes, visitor guides, magazines, maps, etc. The condo itself is gorgeous - nicely decorated and comfortable. The queen bed is insanely comfortable and the bedroom itself is just very restful - honestly it was hard to leave in the mornings, except that Portland is such a wonderful city we wanted to get out and explore! Our son slept on the fold out couch and declared it to be comfortable, as well. The layout of the apartment allows for privacy between the bedroom, study and living room areas. Also, it's incredibly quiet - though there are other units in the building, we didn't hear the neighbors at all - and you couldn't even tell the unit was in a vibrant downtown area. (I actually live downtown in another city, and we hear sirens, pedestrians, etc all of the time - not so at Tony and Deb's place.) However, we were within a block of Congress Street and excellent restaurants, art galleries, and shops. The Portland Art Museum and the Children's Museum of Maine were two blocks away, as were acclaimed restaurants like 555, Nosh, Green Elephant (and Otto Pizza, which delivers!). We were within walking distance of just about everything you'd want to see downtown - though the Old Port was a bit of a long walk, just over a mile according to GPS. The location couldn't have been much better and the private parking behind the building was a definite plus in Portland. And, there was even a charming little backyard area! The home was spotless and fully stocked. All in all, my best HomeAway experience yet! I almost don't want to give it an honest review because I want to keep it my little secret and book it again next year!

Charming, Comfortable and Convenient!

  • 5 out of 5
Tony and Deb's hospitality provided the perfect backdrop for an idyllic anniversary weekend in Portland! The spacious accommodations and comfortable furnishings made for a relaxed, informal "home away from home" retreat. This rental is a perfect choice if you're looking for a clean, spacious, gracious, and warmly lived-in environment rather than the stuffy and pristine formality of an overpriced hotel. The location is perfect for exploring the downtown area on foot and our host's were very generous, responsive and accommodating in sharing their knowledge of the city and spot-on dining recommendations. This was a wonderful HomeAway experience, from start to finish!
