About this property

One of the 2 largest rental apartments of the village, nestled at the heart of Borgo Mummialla, Mostelia is part of a restructured historical village in the middle of a preserved natural reserve. It is a Tuscan style stone farm building with great views on the surrounding country side and Volterra in the background. The apartment is on the ground floor on the garden side and on the top floor on the south side. No neighbors above. The terrace has a table and 4 armchairs for meals outside. The apartment has two large bedrooms, one with two single beds, night tables, chair, commode and a 'Romeo and Juliet' balcony, built-in closet. The bathroom is just outside the room.The master bedroom has a large closet, two chairs, night tables, a large 160x200 bed (Queen) and one en-suite bathroom. The Tuscan style living space is set up with fireplace, stone bench along one wall, couch and armchair, a dining area with 4 chairs and is fully equipped with dishwashing machine, large refrigerator, oven, 4 gas burners and all necessary kitchen tools and china. There is also a storage room with washing machine. The terrace and garden receive the sun until 1 pm in the high season and then it is thankfully in the shade, providing welcome relief on a very warm summer day. The apartment is of utmost quality, well isolated. Tuscan stone pavement, chestnut wood ceiling beams and furnished with the best materials to provide great comfort and pleasure. A tasteful and welcoming 'temporary home' for 4.
The entire land of Borgo Mummialla is privately owned and the little village consists of several Tuscan buildings, a total of 16 owners on grounds of 70 hectares. Between oak forests and olive groves, the village lies in the middle of serene and beautiful nature, in total silence, the perfect place for a relaxing and restful stay. The infinity pool is reserved for owners and their guests. Built in a lovely setting it is most welcome for guests returning from a day's sightseeing or for just spending a day's relaxation by the water. The views and the architecture of the pool itself have sofar received raving reviews. The parking at the entrance of the village (2-3 min. walk) is mandatory for everyone. Loading and unloading of luggage and heavy shopping bags is briefly allowed by the apartments.

Borgo Mummialla was rebuilt over several years and finished entirely in 2012. Rentals were initiated in 2013. It was restructured according to strict building recommendations, in full respect of the laws regarding historical sites. It is a work of art in itself as from ruins, everything stands again the way it was long ago. The quality of all materials used are outstanding and the interiors have all the modern conveniences. Solar spheres are used for plenty of hot water, even when the village is fully occupied. When solar water heating is not enough, the system switches automatically to central heating providing continuous flow of hot water.

Happy to take your money but begrudgingly allowing you to stay.

The Borgo Mummialla complex is a beautiful place to stay and having stayed there in other apartments and knowing other families having done the same, we know of many lovely owners renting their lovely apartments - BUT THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM... Unfortunately this is an example of an owner who is happy to take your money but providing the least service and leaving you with the impression that you are intruding on her home and you are begrudging allowed to stay there. - Having paid our deposit (with evidence) there was confusion at HomeAway about what ref no. it went into - she was unhelpful in sorting this out saying that she would not confirm our booking and only got involved at the last minute causing us the distress of believing we would lose our deposit. - Communications re: the stay, always commenting on respecting her apartment - almost a presumption that you were going to trash it. - Ironically the apartment - although adequate - was the least maintained of any others in our 10 year experiences in Tuscany: grimy rattan mats on the kitchen floor, no cupboard space to store food, food going off quickly in the fridge (too warm), broken bathroom light, both shower trays blocked... - No linen change included in the price (apparently stated on the web page). We were expected to arrange ourselves at a charge - in contrast we watched as other families we knew had their linen changed and apartments cleaned and any queries with their owners dealt with in a 'anything we can do for you' manner. - Pool issues: we received an abrupt email from the owner claiming that there had been a complaint about our conduct and that of other English families around the pool - breaking pool rules (jumping in, not showering, taking up too much space by the pool etc). The likelihood being that another owner took exception to children playing in the pool while she was doing her lengths and struck gold moaning to our owner. The implication that we were behaving like yobs abroad ruined any future days around the pool as we seemed to be held responsible for others behaviour and we watched practically every other family (all nationalities)flaunt pool rules. There was also an implication that this would affect any future bookings we had planned and the owner took the further step of contacting the owner we had booked with for the following year which I think was unacceptable. All together the worst experience in our 10 years staying in the area.

Wonderful and relaxing

Ideally set within the hills of the Chianti region, this apartment was within striking distance of most of the best attractions Tuscany has to offer. Beautifully peaceful and in well maintained settings help with the special atmosphere, ideal for relaxing and well situated for touring. The apartment is very well equipped and is immaculate inside and out. The pool is also a treat. Thanks for the use of your lovely apartment and hope to return soon.

Tolle Aussicht vom Swimmingpool kompensiert die Anfahrt der letzten 2 km auf einer äußerst miserablen Schotterpiste. Die Schlaglöcher sollten baldmöglichst ausgebessert werden.

I grew up in Switzerland but lived in America, in France, Germany, Norway. I am retired and speak French, German, English and Italian. Since childhood I have always loved Tuscany and my parents took me there a lot. Acquire some property in Mummallia for myself and for guests is a dream come true. I currently live between Switzerland and Tuscany and now and again have the pleasure to not only email with my guests, but to also meet them which is always pleasant. My representative is the son of friends and a friend himself and is very appreciated by my guests. Mostelia for 4 persons is now managed also by me after La Boscaiola by the village chapel above where I rent an adorable apartment for 2. It's interesting and rewarding to meet international guests when I can and to correspond with them in between.

Why they chose this property

I purchased in Mummialla through Italien friends who are living there and because I was very impressed by the quality of the constructions. I spent a lot of time there during the construction and later by decorating the interiors with care. I learned to appreciate the spirit of the place and never regretted my choice

What makes this property unique

Again I have to stress the extraordinarily beautiful situation of the village, its peace and calm and naturally the quality of the whole project. Mostelia is well distributed, spacious and comfortable throughout and it felt like the right choice for 4 guests, but also for my family when they spend time in Europe to visit me.
